THE BACKBONE OF SCHOLL & COMPANY Honoring the Team That Supports Our Clients Through the Pandemic “We cannot be effective partners with our clients and their businesses if we can’t internally work together.”
As we approach Labor Day this September, I can think of no topic that is quite as timely and deserving of a cover letter than our team here at Scholl & Company. If there’s one thing I’ve learned throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s that I have a hardworking, dedicated group of people working for our clients. There were frustrating and tiring times throughout this pandemic, but the way we banded together proved that our small team cares about developing partnerships with our clients. When I’m hiring someone, I start by looking at the skills they have. Of course, those are important, and it’s impressive when you find someone who can fill a gap in services or expertise. But I can also train someone. You can learn Excel or become knowledgeable about important legislation. It’s the person's ethics that make the final decision for me, not just simply being qualified for the job. I want to know two things: Are they actively trying to improve, and are they a team player? I know it sounds cliche to use the phrase “team player,” but that’s really what we need out of our employees at Scholl & Company. We cannot be effective partners with

clients. We wanted to step in, ease their anxieties and fears, and help them move forward. I knew we could do that, and my team proved my assumptions right. We’re here to serve our clients and guide them to the right financial decisions for their company, and as the scope of the financial world changed for many businesses within a matter of weeks this spring, we had to adapt what we know and how we approached our work. I often hear gratitude from our clients and compliments from new clients about my team. I thought I couldn’t be more proud of them than in those moments, but I am blown away with how this small office showed up for our clients across the U.S. and the globe. They knew this pandemic would require extra work and frustration as we navigated changing laws and regulations. But they took it on together for the sake of our clients. A special thank-you to my team for their continued dedication and to our clients for trusting us during this pandemic. We’re honored to partner with you.
COVID-19 put this to the test, and we passed.
Like many other businesses, we had to find a way to operate in a paperless and digital environment. This meant we had to help clients who weren’t as technologically inclined as the pandemic required them to be. This called for patience and flexibility. What may have worked for one client may not be the answer for another client, so we had to mold with the ever-changing landscape and practice extreme patience. Our support staff, Ben, Carmen, and Heather, were tremendous throughout this transition. I can still hear Ben’s patient, encouraging words to a client as he walked her through a digital signing. As a business owner, that’s the kind of approach you want from your team. On top of that, we had to navigate the CARES Act, the Paycheck Protection Program, and other financial needs we were learning about overnight. We dug our heels in and weathered this crazy storm because we wanted to shoulder the responsibility for our
