YOUR GRIP IS IMPORTANT BY TEDD BENNETT A golfer’s grip / position of the hands is one of the most important aspects of a golfer’s setup but is also one of the most overlooked aspects of their setup. The position of the hands on the golf club controls the orientation of the club face at the moment of impact (open, closed or square). Also, the position of the hands allows the golfer to have more fluid movement in their wrists resulting in more strength to swing the club. The three distinct grip pressure points are: - In your top hand – the last three fingers (middle, ring and pinky) that hold the club underneath the heel pad of your hand. - The index finger of your top hand and pinky finger of your bottom hand whether interlocking, overlapping or a ten-finger grip. - In your bottom hand - where your palm overlaps and exerts downward pressure on your top thumb. How often should you replace our grips? The general rule of thumb is a golfer should replace their golf grips every 100 rounds or so especially if you are playing at least 3 - 4 times per week in conditions exposing your grips to heat and humidity.
PUTTING GRIPWITH NANCY HARVEY
There are many different ways to hold the putter, claw, left hand low (right handed golfer), split grip...the list goes on and on. The reverse overlap grip is one of the most popular. By placing the putter in the palm of your hands helps eliminate excessive wrist action. This allows the grip (shaft) and forearms to be in alignment with each other. Now with the proper posture the putter becomes an extension of the forearms allowing for the path and face of the putter to be more square, stable and repeatable.
