1901 The Company moved from London to new premises in Reading, UK and expanded rapidly.

OVER 130 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE SPP Pumps has led the design and manufacture of centrifugal pumps and engineered pumping solutions for over 130 years.

1961 Pulsometer Engineering joined Sigmund Pumps of Gateshead making one of the largest pump companies in Europe, known as Sigmund Pulsometer Pumps, SPP for short. 1986 SPP Pumps acquired Henry Sykes plc adding the famous ‘Sykes’ pumps to its range. The Sykes facility was completely redeveloped and in 1987 all manufacturing was moved to Coleford, in the West of England, where it is today. 1875 - 1878 Founded in 1875, a British Engineer bought the patent rights of the Pulsometer Pump from an American, Thomas Hall. “The Pulsometer Engineering Company Ltd”was born. From this came the birth of the Company as it is known today. 1989 After a brief period of ownership by the Braithewaite Group, SPP Pumps was acquired by the TBG group in 1989 as part of Sterling Fluid Systems.

2003 - PRESENT SPP Pumps was acquired by Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, India in 2003. SPP Pumps launched the Lowest Life-Cycle Cost Series pumps in October 2004 in order to match the requirements of the 21st Century Industrial &Water Utility customers. SPP Pumps’ global expansion programme has created its new Engineering Services Division. Embracing the latest in technology to deliver the next chapter in its success. SPP Pumps plans further facilities at Coleford and modernised service centres to support future customer demands. Increased manufacturing capacity and a larger labour force are also part of the vision.

SPP Pumps continues to evolve

COATINGS: ENHANCING LIFETIME PERFORMANCE

SPP Pumps has wide experience of applying specialist coatings to repair, protect and improve the longevity of existing and newpump casings, valves and pipes. Coatings can even enhance the structural integrity of critical equipment. Working closely with Belzona Polymeric, experienced technicians provide inhouse as well as on-site repair.

Internal coatings can change turbulent ows into more ecient Laminar ows. Using coatings when repairing worn and damaged equipment can signicantly reduce energy costs. Other specialist coating types can provide a higher tolerance to cavitation compared to metal lled epoxies and polyester glass-ake systems. From energy ecient applications to the toughest of ceramic coatings, we have the experience within our service centres to provide you with the correct coating application for your specic requirements.

material upgrades for your application. Frommetallic to the latest in Polymer upgrades we have the inhouse design capability to enhance your equipment’s life cycle.

Material choice fundamentally aects the longevity and cost of ownership of rotating equipment. With a depth of experience of both metallic and non-metallic substrates, SPP Pumps can provide you with the engineering expertise to choose the best

SPP Pumps’ re-rating service can substantially reduce energy bills, as well as reducing equipment life cycle costs. The graph clearly shows what happens either side of a pumps best eciency point. Many pumps are over-rated at the initial design stage. When a pump is subsequently in use, it is then over-specied for the actual system demand. When a pump

operates below its Best Eciency Point, it wastes costly energy. Excess, unused capacity comes at a price. Working closely with our Energy division, SPP Pumps service centres re-rate pumps to ensure Best Eciency Point operation for the system, saving substantial costs and increasing service life. Following re-rating, we test every pump at our test facility as proof of the upgrade and conrm the energy savings in monetary terms.

TESTING: PROVEN INTEGRITY TO ‘AS NEW’ STANDARDS

Every new and reconditioned pump is tested in SPP Pumps’ own extensive facility. Rigorous duty tests, are often witnessed by customers and contractors. Testing can be performed on both electric motor driven as well as diesel pumps.. With a 1.2 million litre well six metres deep, engineers can test pressures up to 50 bar; ows up to 2000 l/s; and at 50Hz powers up to 800kW at 415V and 2MW at 11kV, 10kV, 6.6kV, 5kV, 3.3kV - with generators available for even higher powers or voltages.

HYDRAULIC MODELLING & COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS (CFD) ANALYSIS OPTIMISING PUMP PERFORMANCE

Hydraulic modelling allows SPP Pumps’ engineering team to analyse and optimise any pump design to improve eciency and performance. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis software predicts and veries ow patterns across alternative designs – for instance impeller blade shapes and hydraulic passages. Pump sumps and intakes can be optimised to nd any vortex formations, air entrainment and to reduce swirl angles at the pump inlet. Reducing cavitation and allowing the pump to operate closer to its best eciency point increases the life of the equipment. CFD analysis tools also predict pump performance, NPSHr and any cavitation before parts are manufactured. As well as developing new designs, the process is also used to re- engineer existing equipment to meet new demands. Cutting-edge tools available to SPP Pumps engineers include: • PTC Creo Parametric 3D modelling software - generates hydraulic shapes for new designs or for reverse- engineered parts created from scanned >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4 Page 5 Page 6 Page 7 Page 8 Page 9 Page 10 Page 11 Page 12 Page 13 Page 14 Page 15 Page 16
