Nurturing every individual

St Lawrence College has a rich history and a reputation for excellence.

T

he genuine feeling of community is tangible and there is no doubt that the

children incredibly well and understand how they learn best. We support them throughout their school career without the anxiety, uncertainty and ‘lost education’ that can happen when changing stage and moving schools. However, there is also a clear sense of progression as you move through the school and an increase in challenge from Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep, to Kirby, Senior School and the Sixth Form, which keeps our pupils enthused, inspired and motivated.

Christian values, boarding ethos, all-through nature of the school and focus on the individual contribute to a feeling of care and compassion that permeates every corner of the campus. One of the wonderful things about being educated in an all-through school is the continuity of education that your child receives. The staff at St Lawrence get to know your

All of this is underpinned by High Performance Learning; an understanding that intelligence is not fixed and that high performance in education is achievable by all. We are proud to have been

An understanding of service and gaining a perspective on the role that we play in our local and global community is a vital component of any well-rounded education and it is important that our pupils gain this outlook. Pupils are also able to enhance classroom learning with educational trips including visits to London’s galleries and theatres, Year 7 French trip to Calais, GCSE History Field Trip to the Somme, and many other local field trips. The boarding experience really is the best that the School can offer, with its exceptional pastoral care, academic support and access to extra-curricular activities.

Our boarding houses offer a whole host of opportunities for leadership, whether that is as simple as organising a sports team to play another House, or encouraging your peers to develop a society or interest group. Perhaps it will be taking ownership of one of the noticeboards, running the recycling scheme, ensuring that a new pupil is making friends, or even giving your friend who isn’t particularly good at organising himself, some time at the end of the day to help him pack his bag. The evenings in the boarding house are also full of opportunities for collaborative work. Not only are there members of staff on duty in the evening, helping out with their homework and ensuring the pupils’ welfare, but there are also a whole host of peers with whom to

collaborate. Furthermore, this also gives our pupils the soft skills of tolerance, understanding and develops their emotional intelligence. When living with a variety of other people, you become a more compassionate, selfless, and respectful individual. You understand diversity, learn to get on with everyone, become much more sensitive to the needs of those around you and of course you learn to become more independent. Boarding provides the holistic education that St Lawrence is renowned for, and it will prepare your children much better for both their time at University and also their future lives. Whilst primarily a full boarding school, we also offer weekly and flexi-boarding options for younger pupils.

O

ur Housemasters and Housemistresses know our pupils incredibly well – their

Despite being bright, light and airy the dormitories are cosy and warm, providing a wonderful place of relaxation and rest. A dedicated social area offers many opportunities for fun in the evenings and at weekends. Boarders also enjoy using the Sports Centre and Swimming Pool, along with regular trips into town. They are never short of friends, and mobile phone contact and regular ‘exeat’ weekends mean that parents never feel far away. O

We recognise that our older pupils need more private space in which to live and work, so senior pupils start in 4-bed dorms, leading to double or single rooms as they get older.

hungry pupils can prepare snacks between meals, after sports matches and at weekends. House Parents and their families live in accommodation within each Boarding House as well as a Resident Tutor.
