THANKSGIVINGTHANKFULNESS
Shining a Light on Overlooked Blessings
November blesses us with Thanksgiving, a day for giving thanks and expressing gratitude for all that is good in our lives. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621, and the feast lasted three days. Today, we are lucky if the meal lasts an hour, but there are plenty of leftovers to enjoy and plenty of appreciation to go around all year long. This year, we all have endured some tough times. The pandemic has drastically changed the lives of many and has impacted businesses, personal goals and aspirations, plans, health, and relationships, and we are still in the thick of it. Now more than ever, health is at the forefront of our blessings as we strive to avoid COVID-19 and live life as normally and safely as possible. Every day, we are grateful to be healthy as we navigate the pandemic. We also are likely much more aware and thankful for those we may have overlooked, our frontline heroes: police, fire rescue, doctors, nurses, surgeons, teachers, transit drivers, grocery employees, and essential workers who risk their lives every day to keep businesses afloat and the general public safe and healthy. Many are working endless hours and have increased exposure to COVID-19. For them, we are extremely appreciative. However, there is much to be grateful for that is sometimes overlooked and taken for granted. There is nothing better than having your hands full and having someone open the door for you or being offered a compliment on a rough day. Take a moment to reflect back on some of those small acts of kindness that you received throughout the year. Despite the mayhem, there is still good in the world — be sure to not let it go unnoticed.
discerning what led up to them, we can figure out how to avoid repeating the mistake a second time. Mistakes are something we can certainly learn to be grateful for — after they are corrected, of course! Personal growth is a beautiful thing. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Make sure you take time to appreciate the small victories that lead up to the big goals you have set for yourself — those take effort too! Be kind to yourself and appreciative. You are a continuous work in progress. It may sound silly, but we often lose sight of the core elements of our well-being that we rely on each day: food, water, and shelter. We have a comfortable and safe place to rest our heads at night while some people are homeless. Sometimes, we can get so caught up in the desire for more that we forget to stop to appreciate what we already have. This Thanksgiving, as you celebrate with friends, family, and loved ones, take the time to reflect on all things — big and little — that serve you. Gratitude is the attitude of the season! Happy Thanksgiving!
Mistakes, while they may be frustrating setbacks at first, can wind up yielding positive results. We learn from our mistakes, and by

HAVEA LOW-STRESSHOLIDAY 3 TIPS FOR A MERRIER TIME
Get Started Early
The holidays are right around the corner, and while many people can’t wait to eat turkey and swap presents, others only see stress on the horizon. Especially for those hosting parties, between decorations, big dinners, excited kids, and visiting family, it can all feel overwhelming. If celebrations are happening at your house this year, here are three tips to lessen the strain and keep up the holiday cheer. Recharge First Ensure you’re rested and recharged before the holidays by taking time to relax, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that make you feel good. When you’re rushing to get everything done, it can be tempting to skip self-care routines, but that will cost you in the long run. Your daily exercise and other health activities keep you balanced and ready to face challenges head-on.
Holidays always arrive faster than we expect, so begin preparing early. If shopping for presents is a pain point, don’t wait until the last minute. Decorate earlier than you need to — or better yet, get the kids to do it for you. There’s only so much cooking you can do ahead of time, but ensuring you have all of the equipment and nonperishable ingredients you need a few weeks in advance will reduce both your workload and anxiety. Don’t Expect Perfection The sooner you let go of the idea of a “perfect” holiday, the sooner you’ll be able to have a happy one. Face it: Something will go wrong. Whether it’s an overcooked dish, a child throwing a temper tantrum, or your uncle talking politics at the dinner table, nothing
will ever go just how you planned. So, embrace the imperfections.
Whether you’re celebrating this year with a group of two or 20, holidays can be a stressful time — but they don’t have to be. With these tips, your festivities may not be picture-perfect, but they will be a lot of fun.
Your New Smile Awaits
THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS
When you think of dental implants, you likely think of an entire mouth full of not-so-natural looking teeth, right? Dental implants are actually a fantastic option for many patients — here’s why! They prevent bone loss. Did you know that when teeth fall out, you lose bone mass in your jaw, as well? If a tooth is not replaced within a year with an implant, which also replaces the root, bone loss can occur. Dentures do not connect to anything, and they can lead to deterioration of the empty spot where the tooth once was. They match your natural teeth. Like teeth, dental implants come in all different shapes and sizes. They also behave just like your normal teeth, so
you can chew, brush, and floss normally. The implants can also be put in right beside your natural teeth and will match seamlessly. They will fit right in the gap and match the color of your other teeth. They prevent changes to your facial shape . Dental implants will support your facial structure. When bone loss occurs in the jaw, your face can sag as a result. Wrinkles, a pointed chin, and thinner lips can also be a result of missing teeth. Implants act just the same as your natural teeth to prevent changes to the shape of your face. They are better than dentures.
put back in! Implants act as normal teeth but can’t get cavities. You still must clean them well to prevent bacteria buildup, but they sure do beat dentures! They support the adjacent teeth. When you lose a tooth, the teeth on the other sides of the missing tooth become subject to shifting and movement because they lack the support of a tooth next to it. This can lead to misalignment and crooked teeth. An implant provides the same support as a natural tooth. If you’re ready to smile with confidence, eat your favorite foods, and not have to worry about missing teeth or the difficulties with dentures, implants are your solution!
Dentures can slip around in your mouth and need to be taken out, properly cleaned, and

EASY CRANBERRY-APPLE SALAD
Inspired by CookieAndKate.com
INGREDIENTS
For the salad: • 1/4 cup dried pumpkin seeds • 5 cups salad mix • 2 Granny Smith apples, chopped into bite-size pieces • 1/3 cup dried cranberries • 1/3 cup goat cheese, crumbled
One may think that if you brush extra hard, you’ll do a better job of cleaning plaque, food, and sugar off your teeth. However, brushing too hard can cause some serious damage! But first, how do you know if you are brushing your teeth too aggressively? One way is by looking at your toothbrush. If you have been using it for three months or less, the bristles should still look new. If they are beaten up and frayed, you are using too much force when brushing. If your teeth feel more sensitive or if you notice that your gums appear to be receding, you also may be overdoing it on the brushing. If you are able to see darker areas on your teeth closest to your gums, that is a sign of the root surface being exposed. When you brush too hard, you cause your teeth to prematurely wear down. Even though tooth enamel is extremely tough, it can erode, and tooth enamel is not able to repair itself. Once this occurs, your teeth will become very sensitive, leaving you prone to developing cavities. Over-aggressive brushing can also lead to gum recession. When the toothbrush bristles rub too fiercely on the gum surface, the tissue will literally shrink back, exposing the root of the tooth. Not only are the roots of your teeth more sensitive, but they do not contain enamel and, therefore, are more prone to decay. To avoid brushing too hard, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, hold it at a 45-degree angle while using short and wide strokes, and try using your non-dominant hand to make sure that you do not get carried away. Make sure you slow down while brushing. Eliminating the urgency and making sure you allow enough time for each section of your mouth will help to avoid aggressive brushing. With these tips, you will be sure to avoid damaging your teeth through over-brushing. If you think you have receding gums or increased tooth sensitivity, come in and see us! We are here to help. Are You Brushing Your Teeth Too Hard?

Football andThanksgiving: A Match Made in Marketing Heaven
Last year, 30.3 million people tuned in to watch the NFL’s Thanksgiving showdown between the Washington Football Team and the Dallas Cowboys. For those Americans (and probably for you if you’re reading this article), football is as essential to Thanksgiving as turkey and stuffing — but why? FOOTBALL AND THANKSGIVING: A MATCH MADE IN MARKETING HEAVEN
Germantown Cricket Club faced off in that inaugural Thanksgiving game in Philadelphia, and football has been played on Thanksgiving pretty much ever since! When the NFL was founded in 1920, the Thanksgiving game was official from the get-go. The second reason we watch football on Thanksgiving is more about money than tradition. In 1934, a Detroit Lions coach, George A. Richards, decided that in order to attract more fans, his teamwouldmake a point to always play on Thanksgiving whenmost people were off work. To sweeten the pot, he committed his radio station (an affiliate of the NBC Blue Network) to broadcasting the Thanksgiving game live on 94 different stations across America. This idea was a hit fromday one! According to Sporting News, the long-unloved Lions “not only sold out the stadium, they also had to turn people away at the gates.” In 1966, the Dallas Cowboys signed on to play every Thanksgiving, too, for similar publicity reasons. Since those early days, football-themed traditions have flourished in American families. Apart fromwatching games on TV, one of the most popular is organizing a pre-turkey game of family touch football a la the sitcom “Friends.” (Its famed episode “The One With the Football” aired Nov. 21, 1996.) If you’ve never organized a game, this could be your year! To get started, Google “Scott’s Family-Friendly Touch Football” and click the first link.
As it turns out, there are two answers to that question. The first is that games have
been played on the holiday for almost as long as it has officially existed. Thanksgiving became a holiday in 1863, and just six years later, the third American football game in history was played on it.
According to SB Nation, the Young America Cricket Club and the
