OUR VISION: TO PROVIDE A TRADITIONAL ACADEMIC EDUCATION THAT UNLOCKS EVERY CHILD’S POTENTIAL. WELCOME
The Turing School’s new sponsor Swale Academies Trust is a multi-academy trust based across the South East of England, covering Kent, Bromley and East Sussex. The Trust has developed into one of the South East’s leading Multi-Academy Trusts.
As Headteacher at The Turing School, I am passionate about delivering the following four key objectives:
● The first: to unlock the full potential of all students and guarantee they leave with the qualifications to ensure future success ● The second: to embed and celebrate high academic standards and rigour ● The third: to provide a traditional education to students through exceptional teaching and learning ● The fourth: to instil the highest standards in behaviour and attitudes
I am delighted and excited to welcome you to our new school, The Turing School. The Turing School is a brand new school, opening in Eastbourne in September 2021, specialising in Maths. The school will be a beacon within our community embedding high standards and excellence within all that we do.
A dedicated Aspirations Coordinator will lead on student development providing a rich variety of activities and opportunities thus developing our students cultural capital, broadening horizons and allowing them to thrive in the ever-evolving employment sector. As part of the schools continuing development from 2026, the school is in discussion with the DfE about launching its own sixth form provision. The Post 16 provision and curriculum will ensure your child will be able to continue to learn and grow in an environment that celebrates academic rigour. I trust you get a sense of my vision and ambition for the children of Eastbourne. I look forward to being able to welcome you to The Turing School and to discuss further with you the exciting journey ahead of us.
At the heart of The Turing School there will be a happy and vibrant community that will unite students, staff, parents and carers to ensure academic achievement and aspirations are celebrated and at the forefront of everything we do. Students' well-being will be a key strength of the school in supporting each individual to grow, develop and flourish within a caring community that is rich with opportunity, high in aspiration and driven by high expectations. Our curriculum will be centred around mastery in maths and, from Year 7, our students will be placed within academic groups that ensure achievement for all. We will be introducing a Turing aptitude maths test which will identify our gifted and talented students in maths, who will then be placed on our unique ‘Alpha’ pathway. At GCSE students will be offered GCSE Statistics and, for our more gifted and talented students, the option to study for early entry Core or AS Maths. In partnership with The Turing Trust, the school will be fostering international links with overseas schools and developing a broad extra-curricular programme which will include enrichment trips to Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge.

As part of our pastoral programme, we have a developing careers programme which supports all children in thinking about their future pathways and aspirations. Our aim is to ensure that we help all students to reach their full potential and have the skills needed for employment.
Student leadership At The Turing School we feel it is important that students have the opportunity to participate in leadership throughout their time here. Our student leadership model is linked closely to our house system. Each House will have the following structure which encourages our students to learn about democracy and the roles we have to play as citizens in continually changing society.
Pastoral programme, care and support
The Turing School focuses on developing the whole student. We have a robust pastoral programme designed to support pastoral alongside their academic development. During tutor time, students will cover a curriculum that focuses on Leadership, Oracy, Resilience, Initiative and Communication. These five key skills are essential for students' future employability and readiness for their life after secondary school and sixth form. We also are aware of the pressures that 21st Century life places on young people and the impact this has on their Mental Health and Emotional Well-being. We have a weekly well-being focus within tutor time, in addition to a counsellor and an Education Mental Health Practitioner in school. In addition to having our own mental health professionals providing support in school, we utilise the support of external agencies to ensure all of our students feel happy, safe and ready to learn.
Year 11 – Head of House Year 11 – Deputy Head of House Year 10 – Deputy Head of House Year 9 – Assistant Head of House Year 8 – Assistant Head of House Year 7 – Assistant Head of House
Our House leadership team also forms the ‘student council’ and will play a key role inmaking changes to the way the school develops. Each house will take responsibility for a particular aspect of student life e.g. Equality and Diversity or Charity fundraising. Our student leadership teamwill also participate in delivering assemblies to the whole school.
At The Turing School we aim to develop responsible, respectful and active citizens who are able to play their part and become actively involved in public life as adults. We promote equality of opportunities so that all pupils can thrive together, understand that difference is a positive and that individual characteristics make people unique whilst creating an inclusive environment that meets the needs of all, irrespective of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
