Spring 2021 Commencement 2

Welcome from the Chancellor

On behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, congratulations to our spring 2020 and 2021 graduates. With relentless purpose, these committed students have completed years of learning and rigorous work. It is my honor to mark the achievements of our graduates and celebrate this milestone with our families and supporters. I am also honored to confer these degrees in my first commencement as UW-Stevens Point’s chancellor. I joined the university in January 2021 and have been focused on student success in higher education for more than 20 years. As the first in my family to attend college, I understand the power of education to achieve success, personally and professionally. It transforms the individual and the lives of future generations. Completing a university degree is a major accomplishment, one achieved with significant sacrifices by the students themselves and by their families, associates and friends. This past year has added challenges unlike any of us have seen. Our graduates met the changes brought by the

pandemic with resilience, determination and adaptability. They have demonstrated the ability to adjust, to think deeply and find creative ways to solve problems. They can look ahead to a bright future with confidence, for these skills are highly sought by employers as our graduates go out into the world to fulfill their purpose. Graduates, we are so proud of you and your accomplishments. Please know UW-Stevens Point will remain your home, and you are welcome back anytime. Thank you to our students’ family and friends for your support, sacrifice and encouragement. Thank you to UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff, whose dedication, mentorship and creativity have broadened our students’ intellectual horizons and transformed their lives.

Sincerely,

Thomas Gibson Chancellor
