MARCH 2022
CHECK OUT THE ‘303 ENDURANCE PODCAST’ TO HEAR FROM ME
I’ve been a guest on a few podcasts over the years, and usually, I use these platforms to share my expertise as an attorney and spread the good word about VanMeveren Law Group. I find it beneficial to reach people with numerous mediums, because you never know who may need assistance or how they consume their media.
And while VanMeveren Law Group was only briefly mentioned as part of my introduction, I really enjoyed this opportunity to stray away from my usual podcasting experiences. I’ve used 303 Endurance throughout my triathlon career as a great resource for upcoming events and the latest news on the Colorado multisport community. I also think those who are not interested in triathlons would enjoy our conversation. I appreciated howwe spent time discussing the mechanics of various races I had competed in, but a large part of our conversation centered around work-life balance. After all, endurance training isn’t just a weekend hobby. It’s something you have to commit to daily. But I also have to commit to my clients, my team, my community, and most importantly, my wife and six children. Balancing that has taken a lot of work, and I’m always happy to share some of my insights. If this is something you would like greater guidance with, I think my discussion with Bill and Rich would interest you. So, whether you want to learn more about triathletes and training, or if you would like a peek behind the curtain of how I find balance in my own life, I would encourage you to listen to my episode. It’s Episode 314, and you can find it online at 303Cycling.com. (Just search for “Podcast” in the search bar.) You can also find it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen.
“It was exciting to talk [to] Bill and Rich, as they are big triathletes who are just as passionate as I am.”
Recently, though, I had the opportunity to join Rich Soares and Bill Plock on the “303 Endurance Podcast” for an entirely different purpose. In this 90-minute conversation with Rich and Bill, I was able to share a little bit about my Ironman passion. I was invited to join the show primarily to discuss the fact that I’ll be racing in two Ironman World Championships this year, Ironman St. George in May and Ironman Hawaii in October, as they weren’t aware of anyone else racing in both World Championships in the same year. However, the conversation wasn’t just about my upcoming races. I talked candidly about race courses I enjoyed and others that challenged me. I provided insight into how I operate this law firm, train for races, and prioritize my family through our big family gatherings and the coaching I’ve done for all my kids over the years. It was exciting to talk about all of this with Bill and Rich, too, as they are big triathletes who are just as passionate as I am — as are the listeners.
And I do hope you find time to listen! I was honored to join Rich and Bill, and if anything, this is a great way for you to support a local business.
Thanks for listening!

Sunday, March 20, is the first day of spring — which means it’s time for some spring-cleaning. Did you know that cleaning is not just about tidying up a physical space? It’s also about improving overall well- being. Here’s how organization and cleanliness can help you in more ways than you might expect. Spring-cleaning reduces stress and depression. Tidiness and mental health are actually connected. Studies have found that having a clean home is directly correlated to happiness and your ability to focus. Anxiety can spike when laundry is piling up, items are strewn everywhere, and papers get scattered on various surfaces within the home. Clearing the clutter is a great way to boost your mood and increase those feel-good hormones. It prevents illnesses. Doorknobs, refrigerator handles, light switches, countertops, and remote controls are all things we touch many times a day. Cleaning anything that’s used often is one way to reduce the spread of germs. By keeping household surfaces clean, we help thwart the spread of viruses and illnesses. Spring-cleaning helps you breathe better. Spring often brings pollen that triggers allergies for many. But pollen isn’t the only thing to blame when people have difficulty breathing. When dust and pet dander build up in your home, your respiratory system is greatly affected too. Deep-cleaning your air filters and vents can make breathing effortless — and it’s truly amazing how this can improve your well-being. It keeps you more active. Off the couch and on your feet! Even just running the vacuum and clearing the clutter from the dining room table will get you up and moving, which is healthy for your heart and body. It’s More Than Just Tidying Up 4 HEALTH BENEFITS OF SPRING-CLEANING
‘AN OUTSTANDING LISTENER AND A HELPFUL LAWYER’
“The VanMeveren Law Group helped settle my case in a professional manner. Karl Hager was the outstanding lawyer I worked with for my automobile accident. Karl is compassionate, an outstanding listener, and a helpful lawyer. He went above and beyond what was expected in order to help me understand what was going on (I incurred a head injury in my accident), and he helped guide me toward the successful outcome. I personally recommend Karl to anyone who needs a lawyer.” –Jen H.
This spring season, putting some elbow grease into your cleaning will benefit you in more ways than one. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself later!

There are few greater views than the sights seen on your bike while pedaling through Colorado. However, snow accumulation, low temperatures, and less sunlight are enough for some bicyclists to hang their bike up each winter. It’s a shame because these are some of the best times to get out! If you’ve been itching to get on your bike since the first snowfall, check out these safety tips for riding in the snow, courtesy of Bill Plock at 303 Endurance! (And save this article for next year!) Prepare for the Cold Start with a base layer that’s going to secure warmth to your body. Bill recommends items like neck gaiters, arm and leg warmers, a tight layer for your torso, and toe covers. Then, layer from there. Vests, jackets, and hats are great additions. The part to be the most careful about are your gloves. Bulky hand coverings can get caught in the mechanics of your bike. Bill suggests wearing a latex glove over your winter glove of choice to prevent this from happening. Monitor the Sun Because of the positioning of the earth during the winter, we experience less daylight and a
low-hanging sun each day. As such, glare occurs earlier in the day, and it will be more intense. To account for this, Bill recommends staying off the bike after 4 p.m. It’s also wise to recognize what the sun’s position means for snow. Canyons have deep gullies that may not receive proper snow melt from the sun, and temperatures can drop quickly in these regions. Plan your trips accordingly! Plan Ahead You have more to account for with winter biking, so it’s best to be vigilant. For instance, bike paths offer the security and safety that roads cannot, but their drainage systems are inferior. Roads are designed to properly route and drain melted snow so as to avoid slick conditions. On bike paths, the water will accumulate and freeze across the path. Furthermore, your body may feel more fatigued in the winter as the bike becomes stiffer with colder temperatures. Combat this by lowering your tire pressure by five pounds.
