In Old Morocco, builders used a unique process to combine lime from Marrakech with pigment and black soap to create what was called “tadelakt,” a beautiful, waterproof plaster that was pliable yet seamless and strong. Shaped into curves and beautiful forms or simply used as a protective surface, it became synonymous with luxury and is still used as the traditional coating of palaces, hammam bathhouses and Morocco’s open courtyard riads. It could be made in any color, finished textured or smooth, with a look both ancient and timeless.
In Mesopotamia and Sumeria, the first metal forgers learned to make castings, sculpting beautiful pieces that they immortalized in the precious metals of their day.

Starting with handcrafted designs, we create precision-engineered casting moulds, layering proprietary micro-cement with latex polymers, natural Spanish quartz and English pigment, to achieve stunning cementitious products with unique finishes. Luxurious metals and textures can also be added before casting, creating a hybrid solid- surface material that is incredibly durable yet smooth and pleasing to the touch.
VAST Studio’s process makes our creations both sturdy and lightweight, with tubs and sinks that are often less than half the weight of comparable bathroom products.

Rising majestically into a surround encompassing a stunning 1.58 cubic metres, this tub reaches its crescendo in a smooth, asymmetric lip that hints at overflowing bounty. Inspired by naturally occurring ovoid forms of the plant and animal kingdoms, its expansive roundness speaks to rebirth and rejuvenation, a reawakening of the primal soul through the ritual of bathing.

An organic curve reaches upward, cresting over an unseen shore. Emulating the slow power and tidal movement of the sea itself, this tub starts at 755 mm wide and reaches its apex at a full 890 mm in height, a flow that gently captures the eye and captivates the spirit. Cradled in the deep, you’re the master of a realm where you float in tranquility and strength. A G E N T L E S W E L L B U I L D S T O A W A V E .

I N T H E M O U N T A I N S O F J A P A N , steaming onsen bathhouses are natural respites where water represents not just cleanliness but pleasure as well, and its surrounding presence lulls the body and mind into a state of ease and contemplation. So we followed the contours of round hinoki cypress-staved ofuro soaking tubs as the inspiration for our deepest bathing experience. Our iteration flares slightly as it ascends, expanding its diameter to almost 1.5 metres to accommodate 613 litres of capacity, offering just enough space in which to lose yourself.

Simple. Smooth. Precise. If a vessel is valued not for itself but for the space that it creates within, then this tub’s elegant ovoid form is a precious gift that honors its owner above all. Bestowing a sanctum whose contours create balance and harmony, this is serenity defined by shape.

After many years of experience in design, manufacturing and sales in the fashion industry, James Byford established Planet 21, a design- based manufacturing company providing blue- chip clients with bespoke merchandise for use in retail and promotional marketing. Supplying clients such as Ferrari, Jordan, Benetton, Sauber, Williams, Playstation, Xbox, Dell, Guinness and Budweiser, as well as many high street fashion brands and retailers, the company expanded into 16,000 retail outlets across 57 countries worldwide. Byford then pursued architectural and interior design in the UK, France and Spain, designing and building luxury apartment buildings and single-family residences, eventually relocating to the USA, where he has developed and opened over 60 franchise restaurants to date. As a cofounder and CEO of VAST Studio, he manages overseas manufacturing in Malibu.
A native of London, Lorne Mash qualified at the highest level of stone masonry in 2004 from City and Guilds of London Institute, contributing his efforts to many prestigious building projects including St. Pancras International station, BBC White City, Arsenal Football Club’s Emirates Stadium and the highly acclaimed renovation of King’s Cross. With his construction company, he’s completed many high-end residential structures and consulted on various build projects across Europe. In 2012, Mash relocated to the USA, working on luxury projects in the hospitality and residential sectors. Lorne is a cofounder of VAST Studio and has been instrumental in processing the patents held by the company.
Born and raised in the beautiful open spaces of Colorado, Ryan White went on to spend eight years working in the fashion industry in New York City. After achieving success in production and public relations for elite fashion brands such as Ralph Lauren, Gucci and Marc Jacobs, White relocated to Los Angeles to found his own design firm in 2012. White and his work have been featured in such publications as Elle Décor, House Beautiful, Traditional Home and the Hollywood Reporter. As cofounder and creative director, White brings his deep knowledge of fashion and the interior design world to the creative challenges of VAST Studio.
