Protection Team News A WIN UNDER UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCES ‘WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS’ H as anyone else been hearing Queen’s anthem, “We are the Champions,” in their head? circumstances. This victory was a total team effort and not just one person carrying the load. Yes, I watched every single game — many with my daughter on FaceTime. There were a few late nights due to the multiple overtime periods, but in the end, it was all worth it. Two things will always stand out for me: First is captain Steven Stamkos dressing for game three, playing for about three minutes, and yes, scoring a goal! The excitement and energy that brought to the team was just amazing. The second thing will have to be the boat parade that was pulled together for the fans to celebrate with the team. The excitement the players and fans showed was just over the top. There isn’t any other team that could pull that off other than Tampa Bay! Go Bolts! On another topic, the hurricane prime-time season is quickly passing by, and Florida has been faring very well so far. The Panhandle did get a hit this year and received some damage, but it wasn’t as bad as when Michael hit them in 2019. As I have said many times, it only takes one hit to ruin your year. The vast majority of Florida has been able to dodge some major damage, but we can’t let our guard down just yet. Every day takes us one day closer to the end of the hurricane season — which we all need this year. Hopefully, the next time I write this column, we will all be celebrating the passing of the prime-time season without any further storms hitting Florida and the United States.

Earlier, I talked about the amazing run of the Lightning, but I need to also give a shoutout to the Rays, who finished the shortened baseball season with the best record in the American League and will go on to the playoffs with momentum. I hope that injuries are kept at bay and that they have an unbelievable run, just like the Lightning had. I will be having some more late nights since the MLB is having the games played out in California. I can’t forget the Buccaneers and TB12. They have had a couple games, and the lack of preseason has been a problem for the team to get on the same page. It is exciting to have the possibility to win each game with Tom Brady, as well as the other great off-season pickups brought in by the Bucs. Could this be the year the Tampa Bay area completes the trifecta of trophies? Until next month, –Darren

HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT LIFE INSURANCE? We Have Answers T he holiday season is a time to cherish your family to the fullest, and securing peace of mind through life insurance is an essential part of that. If you’ve been thinking about the best plan for you, consider some of these frequently asked questions. Q: Do I need life insurance? A: If you died tomorrow, how would your family pay for your funeral, medical bills, outstanding debts, and living expenses like food, utilities, and mortgage? You need life insurance if you want to make sure the people who depend on you now will be taken care of after you’re gone. If you are the primary earner in your household, life insurance isn’t an option; it’s a responsibility. Q: How much coverage do I need? A: There’s no “one size fits all” policy because no two people have the same needs. But most experts agree that at a minimum, a person needs coverage equal to six times their annual income.
THE 11TH HOUR OF THE 11TH DAY OF THE 11TH MONTH
Why Veterans Day and the Number 11 Go Hand in Hand
Veterans Day comes every Nov. 11. It’s a national holiday that recognizes veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces and honors those both living and deceased. Historically, the day marks Armistice Day and the end of the Great War: World War I. But what is the significance of the number 11? The armistice was signed at 5:45 a.m. in France, but it took effect at 11 a.m. that same morning — which happened to be Nov. 11, 1918. The armistice originally lasted 36 days but was extended month after month. This led to the signing of the Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919, when peace was officially declared. Later that year, President WoodrowWilson proclaimed that Nov. 11 would be known as Armistice Day to honor those who fought in the Great War. This lasted until 1954, when President Dwight Eisenhower signed a proclamation turning Armistice Day into Veterans Day. The change was made in order to recognize all veterans who had honorably served their country. By 1954, the U.S. had fought in more wars — specifically World War II and the Korean War — and hundreds of thousands more Americans had served. Unsurprisingly, there was some political drama surrounding the day. In 1968, Congress made Veterans Day a federal holiday under the Uniform Holiday Bill. The idea was to increase the number of three-day weekends in the year. Veterans Day became a holiday that would fall on the fourth Monday of October, a far cry from Nov. 11. However, in 1978, Veterans Day was restored to its original Nov. 11 date. But why? The answer is simple. It’s a number that sticks with you. When the clock strikes 11:11, you always take notice. By that same notion, we all remember the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Because of this, we’ll never forget the end of the Great War, nor will we forget those who served.

A: Term life insurance is the most affordable type of insurance because it only provides coverage for a limited time, ranging from 5–30 years. The policy holder runs the risk of outliving coverage and facing incredibly high premiums if they want to renew. Permanent life insurance offers lifetime protection as long as you continue to pay your premiums. You can also borrow money against permanent life insurance; you cannot borrow against term insurance. Q: Can I have more than one life insurance policy? A: There are currently no laws restricting the number of life insurance policies one person can have. No policy cancels another policy out, and all effective policies will be paid concurrently at time of death. Q: Is a physical exam always required to obtain life insurance? A: Not all policies require one, but policies that pay high benefits usually do. The physical can typically be performed by a paramedic or licensed health care worker and consist of a weight check, blood and urine samples, and an EKG. You’ll also need to answer questions about your medical history. There are many more useful details to discover about which life insurance policy is right for you. Call Vermost Insurance Agency so we can set up a time to answer all of your questions.
