EVERY MOUNTAINTOP IS WITHIN REACH

If You Just Keep Climbing

29,029 vertical feet coming right up! It’s that time of year again — it’s time for my annual 29029 Everest Challenge, in which I and 250 other participants will hike to the summit of Snowbasin Resort in Utah, 33 miles northeast of Salt Lake City, on the back side of the scenic Wasatch Range. Once I reach the summit, I’ll ride the gondola back down, rinse and repeat a total of 13 times within the allotted 36 hours to equal the vertical equivalent of Mount Everest, Earth’s highest mountain, which stands at 29,029 feet. Last year, I completed this personal mission and monumental ascent in a total of 35 hours, and this year, my goal is to scale the mountain in 30 hours or less! However, last year’s real accomplishment, while a great personal feat of mine, lies more in the abundance of donations raised for the children of JaxPAL. “TOGETHER, WE CONTRIBUTE TO BETTERING THE LIVES OF THESE BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN.” Your generous 2021 donations of $5,000-plus were used to replace older television sets, allowing the kids to engage in educational programs and to enjoy entertaining and fun TV shows with one another at the Westside Center of JaxPAL. Funds were also allocated to replace their old computers with new wireless-enabled laptops, allowing them to convert their existing computer room into an activity center for the children. Just as interacting and socializing with other retirees is important for our general health and well-being, playing with other children is a paramount part of growing up for our JaxPAL kids. Over the last four years, I’ve watched these children grow and their self-esteem skyrocket. Their confidence and belief in themselves

has soared exponentially. The value of being a client at Wolf Retirement also resonates — in our ever-changing world, in times of uncertainty and unexpected life events, we are your constant and safe haven. It is so incredibly rewarding to see this growth and the confidence we impart to both the children of JaxPAL and to you, our clients. So, as I embark on my ultimate endurance journey from August 25–28, 2022, I am not only investing in myself but in a great cause — one very near and dear to my heart and the hearts of the entire staff at Wolf Retirement Navigation — JaxPAL. A wonderful organization that teaches and enriches the lives of at-risk and underserved children in our local community, JaxPAL serves as my main motivation, energy, and saving grace as I walk, run, and sometimes crawl in an effort to reach my goal of getting to that finish line in 30 hours. Together, we contribute to bettering the lives of these beautiful children. Details regarding donations will be sent via weekly and dedicated emails, in addition through our texting service, throughout the month of August. I thank each and every one of you in advance for your support in reaching our goal of $7,500. This month is dedicated to our campaign, and your generous donations are very much appreciated and accepted throughout the entire month of August. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute toward continued enhancements to the computer lab, wall-mounted TVs, an abundance of student and teacher supplies, coolers for water and Gatorade, arts and crafts supplies, to name just a few, for the precious kids at the JaxPAL Westside Center. I cannot wait to share my experience upon my return! The best view comes after the toughest mountain!

SPREAD YOUR FAIRY WINGS

How to Build a Fairy Utopia

and flex their creative minds. Adults can, too! But first, you need to gather the materials:

can begin decorating with accessories and plants. Narrow down your plant selection based on where the garden will be located, for example, whether it’s exposed to full or partial sun. Succulents, small bonsai trees, or even ivy can be great choices for a fairy garden. Finally, once you’ve selected and planted the greenery, you can start laying out the accessories. These can include miniature versions of many things:

• A container with drainage holes • Potting mix • Plants, twigs, and/or flowers • Pebbles or glass marbles • Garden decorations

If you’re looking for a fun addition to your outdoor space or a crafty project for the kids, creating a fairy garden might fit the bill. You can grow fairy gardens in a small pot, garden bed, or planter, and they typically consist of small plants and trinkets to “attract” fairies to it. Creating your own personalized fairy garden encourages you or your kids to get involved with nature on a smaller scale, and that’s where the real magic is. Getting Started With Your Fairy Garden A fairy garden offers an enchanted space kids can use to develop their imaginations

Next, get creative and decide on the theme of your garden. You can match your fairy garden to the style of your home or your locale, or dream big and choose whatever you’d like. Popular themes are a wooded wonderland, castles, fairy villages, or even the beach! There truly is no limit. Once you choose a theme, go to your local nursery or craft store to find decorations to build your fairy utopia. Building Your Themed Garden After the container is filled with soil, you can use moss or pebbles to create paths for the fairies. Lay a good foundation so you

• Chairs and tables • Birdhouses • Toadstools

• Lanterns • Animals

• Mushrooms • Fairy statues

The point of a fairy garden is to create something fun and imaginative. This fun project will add a whimsical, eye-catching area to your outdoor space.

HAPPILY EVER AFTER Navigating Marriage After Retirement

The golden years have finally arrived! No more alarm clocks, long hours at the office, meetings, lengthy commutes, and nagging obligations. Instead, there’s more time available to dedicate to your passions in life — hobbies, books, outdoor activities, social events, and time spent with your spouse. However, retirement can sometimes place a strain on your marriage, even though it is perfectly happy and healthy. Why is this? Well, for many years, your relationship adapted to the ebb and flow of work and career, and you developed an equilibrium. Once retirement hits, life changes, and it can be difficult for your relationship to adapt. Here are some great tips to help your marriage navigate through the changes in retirement! Practice patience. The years and months leading up to retirement are filled with much anticipation. Once the time finally arrives, it’s exciting and thrilling, and as you settle into your new routine, it can be relieving but may also be a bit lonely as well. Just as it sounds, retirement can take you on an emotional roller coaster, thus it’s important to be patient and compassionate with your spouse while going through this transitional time together.

Pay attention to changes in feelings, thoughts, and actions. As we all transition through changes in life, our coping

mechanisms vary. Some of us may shop more frequently, drink alcohol in higher amounts, watch more television,

withdraw from social interaction, or become more irritable. If you notice any similar changes in yourself or your spouse, increase your healthy coping strategies such as journaling, exercising, communicating, and meditating! Rediscover yourself. Retirement is chock-full of time to fall in love with things that used to captivate you — or to find new hobbies that interest you! Take time to visit the beach, take a bike ride, enjoy a pottery class, get back into woodworking, or take dance lessons. What intrigues you, what do you enjoy, and how do you want to spend your time? Retirement is a beautiful time, so embrace the ups and downs with your spouse and remember you are there to support each other. Give each other grace and breathing room when you need it, offer an ear to listen, speak words of encouragement, and ride the waves together!

3 Tips for Seniors Before Buying an RV EMBARKING ON AN RV JOURNEY

You can tour the country without ever having to leave your home — motor home, that is! Seniors around the country are all hopping aboard the RV train because it’s a great way to get up close and personal with nature while being free to go where you want. One morning, your backyard can be Yellowstone National Park, and the next, you’re in the Mojave Desert! If you’re looking to purchase an RV in your golden years, here are some tips. Rent one first. Renting an RV before you make the commitment to buy one is the way to go, especially if you’ve never taken a trip in one before! This way, you can take it for a nice long test drive and determine which features are must-haves and which you can do without. It’s also a great way to make sure you’re okay being in such a small space with your family, partner, or travel buddy! Don’t rule out pre-owned RVs. RVs can be expensive, depending on which model you are looking into. In some cases, opting to purchase a pre-owned RV can save you a great deal of money. And, if you get a great deal on a pre-owned one, you can repair, renovate, and redecorate it to your liking with the money you saved. An additional perk is that insurance is usually cheaper on pre-owned RVs!

Do your research. There is much more to buying an RV beyond the actual shopping experience. You have to also learn to drive and/or tow it! Before making a purchase, be sure to research and look up reviews on the driving experiences of other owners of the same make and model. An RV can be a second home, so take your time and make sure you’re getting exactly what you want. Before making your decision and pulling the trigger on your brand-new RV, make sure you’ve done your homework and are prepared for life on the road! A huge adventure awaits — the best thing you can be is prepared!
