Dear Club Members, Happy autumn from Club Headquarters! We hope you are as excited as we are about the crisp, fall weather which can only mean we are that much closer to another favorite holiday season – Christmastime. We are so pleased to spend our special anniversary year together, celebrating 40 years of friendship! As you may have noticed, this year has brought many new and returning Club Members, resulting in our Members’ Only figurines being temporarily out of stock. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we work as quickly as possible to continually provide stock for those of you looking to complete your collection. If you are still waiting on one or more 2021 Members’ Only Figurines, we will be notifying you via email and the Facebook group as soon as they are available. A Glimpse Into The 2021 Precious Moments Family Reunion Let Faith Be Your Strength

After more than a year of unique challenges, the 2021 Precious Moments Family Reunion joyously took place this September in

Carthage, MO. Precautions were in place and the Event In A Box option was available for those who wanted to participate remotely. Overall, the Event gave attendees a chance to experience the togetherness they have been craving, while the inspirational environment provided the revitalization of spirit that so many have needed. From September 2-5, attendees from all over the United States, as well as from Canada and Singapore, were treated to first-rate entertainment, dining, and shopping. “Following local health guidelines, we welcomed our Precious Moments family for three days of all things Precious Moments that was nearly two years in the making,” shares Mishell Hoover, Vice President Marketing and Sales for the Precious Moments Foundation. “Sharing special time together, visiting the Chapel, sitting on the Chapel grounds, enjoying guest speakers, experiencing laughs and insightful entertainment, sneak peeks of new product, retiring a Precious Moments figurine, and fun in the Gift Shoppe – all of these created moments we won’t soon forget!”

Some of the favorite highlights included signing events with Precious Moments Master Sculptor, Hiko Maeda and Linda Rick, The Doll Maker. Entertainment by Willamae and Larry Turner & Friends, live and silent auctions, and the breaking of the mold of #930012 In The Radiance Of Heaven’s Light. Attendee Pamela R. said, “Matt Milliner explaining the significance of each painting in the Chapel was my favorite.” There truly was something for everyone.

Mishell was so happy the Event was able to take place in person this year. She explains, “It was an honor to host the 2021 Event, Let Faith Be My Strength . I feel our strength comes from the love, kindness, compassion, grace, and understanding we share - the kind that was shown throughout the Event. I just know our guests could feel that, too, and bring those gifts of strength back home.”

Hiko Maeda, from Humble Student to Master Sculptor

Master Sculptor, Yasuhiko “Hiko” Maeda has a longstanding history with Precious Moments. Born in Toyohashi, Japan, Hiko has been exploring artistic pursuits since he was a young boy. Having demonstrated a strong talent for sculpture and three- dimensional artwork, he attended Nagoya Art University in Japan and earned a degree in traditional sculpting. The original Precious Moments figurine studio, called Pearl Original, was near the college. It was Master Sculptor Yasuhei Fujioka’s company. Those familiar with the history of Precious Moments know that Fujioka- san was the first to sculpt Mr. Butcher’s artwork into figurine form.

Hiko knocked on the door at Pearl Original and his talents were swiftly recognized. He passed a rigorous sculpting test, and in 1987 began an amazing career interpreting the two-dimensional world of Precious Moments and turning original artwork into a three-dimensional collection. Once he found stability working at Pearl Original, he married the girl of his dreams. “I really appreciate my wife, Natsuki. I wouldn’t have been able to continue being a professional artist without her support,” says Hiko.

In 1995, Hiko moved to the United States to work at a new design studio. The move allowed him to work directly with Mr. Butcher as often as necessary and also made it possible to begin attending signing events with U.S. collectors, adding his signature to the bottom of figurines for fans.

Soon Hiko was attending signing events all over the world. He spent time meeting with collectors from coast to coast in the U.S., Japan, Singapore, China, Indonesia, Thailand, and even embarked on his first Precious Moments Cruise. This is when he says his life took a huge turning point for good. Hearing stories from everyone about what it meant to them, he quickly began to understand just how Precious Moments inspires so many different people. Next, Hiko was appointed to oversee development and project quality for new product development.

In 2008, Hiko earned the esteemed title of Master Sculptor. This milestone was the culmination of decades of dedication and hard work and an accomplishment he was proud to earn. Today, Hiko is honored to know that his work brings so many people comfort, hope, and joy. Collectors can recognize his signature because of the little heart he is known to draw when he signs a figurine. It is his way of communicating his appreciation to collectors and is his personal expression of respect and thanks to Precious Moments fans, especially Club Members like you!

“My grandmother started my Precious Moments collection in 1978. Each year for my birthday and Christmas, my grandparents added to my collection. When the first Sugar Town set was introduced in 1993, it was that Christmas gift that I was the most excited about. For the next 6 years, my grandparents added the next set and watched my Christmas village come to life. Sugar Town is the first thing I pull out when it is time to decorate for Christmas and it is the last thing I put away. My grandmother passed away on December 20, 2020, at the age of 93. “My Precious Moments collection actually started with a figurine I intended to give to my mother for Christmas of 1986. She had a brain tumor and slipped into a coma a few weeks before Christmas that year and died on January 7, 1987. So I kept that one in remembrance. But that started my husband and sons giving me Precious Moments for Christmas. My favorite is about the first Christmas. It started with the set of Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. They are front and center in my curio with many other Nativity figurines. Christmas is very special to me so these stay out all year.
