Thank you for your interest in this key role within Anglia Ruskin University, leading the estates & facilities management team in the redevelopment and expansion of our campuses to meet the needs of our modern, thriving university. Our campuses have developed rapidly over the last ten years and we have been involved in construction across all our sites within East Anglia. We continue to have a legacy of older buildings that require refurbishment and repurposing, alongside an active programme of continuing expansion that provides very positive opportunities to improve the public realmwithin our cities and provide exciting and modern spaces for students and staff. Estates and Facilities Services encompasses a range of services that includes not only facilities and construction but residential services, timetabling and the environment team. We are one of the few universities to have achieved the ISO14001 new standard and have an active sustainability programme. The timetabling teamwork very closely with facilities and construction colleagues to ensure we deliver quality services to our campus community. We are committed to a ‘one team’ approach in the delivery of services. Structure, academic management and finance Our Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive is Professor Iain Martin. The Vice Chancellor is supported by the Vice Chancellor’s Group (VCG) which consists of three Deputy Vice Chancellors, each with specific areas of responsibility, plus the Director of Finance and the Secretary and Clerk to the Governors. Deans of Faculties and Directors of Professional Services combine with the Vice Chancellor’s Group to form the Corporate Management Team (CMT) and are responsible for our strategic and operational functions. Our academic activities are organised into five discipline-based Faculties, each headed by a Dean. Each has a Faculty Board responsible for quality assurance and curriculum development. Academic authority rests with Senate which is made up of elected representatives and members of leadership. Senate is responsible for advising academic development in research, scholarship and teaching; the establishment of criteria for the admission of students; the appointment of external examiners; the assessment of students; the structure of the curriculum; quality assurance and the award of degrees and other qualifications, including honorary awards.

Financial overview We’re incorporated under the Education Reform Act as a Higher Education Corporation and are an exempt charity. Our annual turnover is in excess of £200m. Around 13% of our income is from funding councils, 69% from tuition fees, and 18% from research, consultancy and other investments. We have a constant challenge to make sure that we are able to maintain and grow our income, despite the challenges in a highly competitive market. For this reason, we’re seeking to diversify our income streams in order to ensure long term sustainability and headroom for growth.

Cambridge campus Our Cambridge campus is in the heart of the city and has reached a milestone in its history with the opening of our £35 million redevelopment. The regenerated campus opened in September 2011 and provides a wealth of new facilities which will benefit our Anglia Ruskin community. Park & Ride facilities are conveniently located close to campus. And still to come is our £45 million Science Centre in 2017/18. Chelmsford campus Our dynamic and architecturally outstanding campus is set in the city’s university and innovation quarter, which is just a short stroll from Chelmsford’s city centre and railway station. Our campus borders the River Chelmer with its attractive green and lush surroundings and riverside paths. Park & Ride buses drop off and pick up passengers on campus. In September 2018 we will start educating the next generation in our £20 million School of Medicine. We are the first University to host a medical school in Essex. Peterborough campus Guild House in Peterborough is home to our smaller university community. We’re proud of our superb modern skills lab with state-of-the-art nursing equipment. And we love being close to the historic city centre with its imposing cathedral, plus museums, restaurants, theatres and parkland. A regional presence In order to make Higher Education accessible to all we’ve developed links with a range of regional colleges, these include; University Centre Harlow, University Centre Peterborough and University Centre West Anglia (King’s Lynn).

An international presence We have an increasing number of

overseas students from more than 185 different countries. This has created a very diverse academic community for the benefit for all our students. Our overseas university partnerships include China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, India, USA and Canada.

Our links with employers

We have invested more than £122 million in new facilities and have transformed our campuses.

We have strong links with a wide range of employers and work closely with businesses to address challenges, test markets and seize opportunities. Our business services offer bespoke practical solutions across a breadth of industry disciplines. We design and deliver staff training and professional development, and are a leading provider of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships. A number of local employers also take the time to mentor our students to develop our graduates’ employability skills base. In 2008 we won £5.6 million from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to further our work through a project entitled higherskills@work. Higher Skills are now working with over 1000 businesses nationwide including, Harrods, UPS, RAF and Specsavers. In most cases we deliver degree-based programmes in the workplace and online, giving employers a unique and tailored service. With the formal funding scheme now over, we have launched ‘Degrees at Work’ and continue to innovate the world of work-based learning. anglia.ac.uk/degreesatwork

The Role Director of Estates and Facilities

The Anglia Ruskin estate has been extensively redeveloped and expanded at all current campuses over the last 20 years. The University is now cited as a rising star within the sector and plans to continue to add new buildings in Chelmsford and extensively refurbish the existing estate in Cambridge and Peterborough. This role provides oversight and leadership for the full range of building and property related works, achieving projects on time, to budget and to the highest quality standards. The role will include responsibility for both low and high value capital and revenue works.

This is an exciting time in our history with the new Director of Estates and Facilities taking a prominent role within the regeneration of the local area working closely with our partners at the Council.

Our Estate & Future projects

This is an exciting time to be part of Anglia Ruskin University, with many interesting and innovative projects under development. We’ve built over 33,000 m2 (gross internal area) of new buildings over the past 10 years (including over 5,000m2 off campus in Harlow, Peterborough and Colchester), excluding refurbishments. Our Young Street Phase 1 building designed by Richard Murphy Architects won a silver in the Green Apple Awards 2014, while the subsequent phase 2/3 building was the best new large building

winner of the Cambridge Design & Construction Awards 2015.

campuses that will involve a forward programme of both refurbishment of existing buildings and construction of additional buildings for both academic and residential purposes.

There are ongoing plans to continue with the development and renewal of our campuses. We’ll be commencing the full refurbishment of our sports ground in Cambridge adding a new pavilion and both artificial and grass pitches. Principal Accountabilities:

1. Lead and manage Estates and Facilities in the delivery of our University Strategy, achievement of our objectives, and realisation of our mission and values.

2. Lead on the development and delivery of a cross-University estates strategy, based on agreed Masterplans.

3. Providing leadership to ensure we deliver our university strategy and sub plans through meetings/mentoring/ generating reports/monitoring budgets/developing staff to ensure we have high performing teams delivering proactive services. 4.
