Staying COVID safe

We all have a shared responsibility to minimise the risk of COVID-19.

To do this, you must: • Be fully vaccinated or have an exemption and wear a mask. • New staff and students are required to complete the 2022 Safety and Wellbeing Induction on MyLO.

As a condition of entry to University premises or premises where University operated programs are held, you are required to comply with the below:

• Remember to get your COVID-19 vaccine booster when you are due. Our responsibilities may change in line with government requirements in response to COVID-19 transmission in the community. We will need to remain agile and stay up to date on Public Health COVID-19 information. Vaccination Mandate Vaccines are a critical part of protecting ourselves and others against COVID-19 and all staff and students coming to any of our campuses, facilities and events are required to be fully vaccinated or have an exemption and wear a mask. Visitors and tenants are strongly encouraged to be vaccinated. The Tasmanian Government has mandated COVID-19 vaccinations for anyone coming to our medical or health facilities.

Health and Wellbeing Stay home if you feel unwell

Mask requirements Depending on levels of COVID-19 in the community, our mask settings will be red (mandated in all indoor settings), orange (mandated in certain higher risk indoor settings) or green (individual choice). Masks are strongly recommended in all indoor settings. They are mandatory in: • College of Health and Medicine spaces (excluding Rozelle) because they remain subject to public health directions. • Where 1.5m physical distancing cannot be maintained either because of the nature of the activity, for example, in classes with practicals that require close collaboration or because of the size of the room relative to the number of people in it. Signs will be posted on the doors of all teaching, research, meeting rooms and other shared rooms to help indicate whether masks are required based on occupancy levels. • For gatherings where, if multiple people were to get COVID, it would impact the continuity of our university operations or critical functions, for example, a meeting of all the teaching staff for a particular discipline, a U-Connect team meeting, College or Divisional Leadership team meeting etc. Wear a properly fitted mask when physical distancing is not possible and in poorly ventilated settings. • Clean your hands frequently with alcohol- based hand rub or soap and water. • Personal Hygiene • Cover your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Dispose of used tissues immediately and clean hands regularly.

If you start to feel unwell and have any of the following symptoms, however mild, please do not come to campus: a fever, chills or sweats, headache, cough, fatigue, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, or loss or change in sense of taste or smell. RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) kits are available from Public Health. Visit the Tasmanian website for information on how to get a RAT kit. Positive case reporting If you've tested positive for COVID-19 we ask that you complete this online form . It will support our management of COVID-19 and, as a result, the health and safety of our community. If you are a close contact but have no symptoms, you should work or study from home The public health advice is that close contacts should work or study from home if possible. For details of the close contact rules in Tasmania see the Tasmania coronavirus page and for NSW see the state’s COVID-19 page . Potential COVID-19 exposure sites We will be regularly publishing a list of potential COVID-19 exposure sites at the University of Tasmania. These are times and locations where we know that someone who was COVID-19 positive was on campus. Physical Distancing The more space between people, the harder it is for the virus to move between people. Wherever possible maintain at least 1.5m from others. If this is not possible, minimise the duration of contact and consider additional controls.

Hygiene Controls We promote handwashing and hygiene as one of the most important things you can do to protect yourself.

Cleaning From the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic the University heightened its cleaning program on campus. Across our campuses we: • ensure any buildings on campus frequented are cleaned at least daily with detergent or disinfectant. • ensure cleaners wear gloves when cleaning and wash their hands thoroughly with soap or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser before and after wearing gloves. • clean frequently touched areas and surfaces several times a day with a detergent, disinfectant solution or wipe. • instruct workers to clean personal property that comes to work, such as sunglasses, mobile phones and iPads with disinfectant, such as disinfectant wipes. • provide sufficient cleaning products (including SDS’s) and safe work procedures for cleaning equipment, tools, objects and vehicles between use.

Across our campuses we: •

have hand sanitiser stations at entry and exit points and around the workplace. ensure bathrooms are well stocked with hand wash and paper towel.

• put up posters with instructions on how to hand wash/hand rub. • promote other ways to limit the spread of germs, including by not touching your face, sneezing into your elbow, and staying home if feeling unwell. • promote limiting physical contact with others– no shaking hands or touching objects unless necessary. • try to limit sharing of equipment, objects, tools or vehicles, but where this is not feasible, provided cleaning products and safe work procedures so that they can be cleaned before and after each use.
