Happy New Year everyone! It’s 2021 and we’re not looking back! For the New Year we have some exciting news to share with all of you (well … exciting to us at least). Our firm has been growing this year, and we’ve noticed many of our new

clients live in Northern Nevada. So, in order to provide the best service possible to these clients, we’ve decided to open a new ALG location in Reno, Nevada, to be closer to our clients in the North, and be able to serve the entire State. This new location will provide more flexibility to meet in person with clients (something we plan on doing more of soon, after the pandemic is over), and grow our practice throughout the State. Many of our clients live in rural areas in Northern Nevada as well, and this will give us a closer base of operations to serve them. We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you. If you are receiving this newsletter, you have a personal connection to someone at our firm and we greatly appreciate your support. Even if you just read the newsletter every month, we sincerely express our gratitude for taking some time each month to read our articles as we share information that we hope you find interesting and informative.

This month, we thought we would change up our monthly Exploring Las Vegas article and discuss an awesome attraction in Reno, to celebrate our new location in this amazing city. Did you know that one of the 10 best automobile museums in the U.S. is right here in our own State? The National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada, has been widely recognized as setting the standard for automobile museums around the world when it opened in 1989. The Museum started after the passing of Bill Harrah, the founder of Harrah’s Hotels and Casinos. During his life, he assembled a massive collection of historically significant automobiles, totaling approximately 1,400 vehicles! After his death, the Holiday Inn Company purchased the Harrah properties and the automobile collection. Holiday Inn then donated 175 cars to start the nonprofit museum, which at the time was the largest corporate philanthropic EXPL RING LAS VEGAS RENO

gift in America. These initial vehicles from Mr. Harrah’s collection started what soon became the National Automobile Museum.

Today, there are more than 200 vehicles in the collection. The museum offers entertaining authentic street scenes and facades to accompany the vehicles, along with historical artifacts. Many of the vehicles were used in movies and owned or driven by famous celebrities like Elvis Presley, John F. Kennedy, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, and others. As you stroll through the museum you’ll be transported back in time!

HOW HABIT TRACKING AND DAILY RESOLUTIONS COULD TRANSFORMYOUR LIFE

Yearly resolutions are so last year … if they’re your only resolutions, that is.

Having long-term goals isn’t a bad thing, but do you have a daily plan to reach them? The huge boost of motivation in January isn’t always enough to sustain you all year long. That’s why there are major benefits to starting new healthy habits, whether you increase your weekly exercise time, eat healthier foods, or work on getting better or more sleep.

or taking a walk before dinner. They found that the average amount of time it took before the action became automatic was 66 days! Don’t be too hard on yourself if you miss a day, but know that sticking to a new habit is serious work, so starting small might help you out. Another important aspect of forming new daily habits is rewarding yourself. Bad habits, like smoking, have an inherent reward. However, healthy habits can have rewards too! Try consuming a bit of dark chocolate after a workout or treating yourself to a fresh beverage or relaxing to a podcast after tackling an important task. Find ways to reward yourself, and you’ll be more likely to stick to your new habit. Certain daily resolutions don’t have to be related to exercise or diet to majorly improve your life. For example, having a gratitude journal might boost your long-term happiness by 10% and improve your blood pressure. Don’t hesitate to improve your quality of life! Just start small, and you’ll be amazed by how far you’ll go.

Luckily, sticking with these habits might be as easy as making daily resolutions to complement your yearly goals.

BJ Fogg, a Stanford University professor and author of “Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything,” notes that tiny habits can make a new habit easy to implement into your daily ritual. For example, taking a short daily walk could lead to an exercise habit, or keeping an apple in your bag every day could encourage healthier snacking. It’s important that you stick with it because habits take a long time to create. One study published by the European Journal of Social Psychology asked people about a simple habit they wanted to form, like drinking water at lunch

1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce

2 tsp light brown sugar

1 tsp sesame oil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes 1 lb lean ground beef

1/4 cup yellow onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

2 tbsp gochujang sauce, or more if desired

3 cups cooked brown rice 1 small cucumber, sliced

1/2 tbsp sesame seeds, plus more for topping

2 scallions, thinly sliced

Directions

The Nevada workers’ compensation system, like in most other states, is based on statutes (laws) and regulations. We therefore call the workers’ compensation scheme in Nevada “statutory.” These statutes and regulations are called the Nevada Industrial Insurance Act, which is abbreviated as NIIA. The NIIA is a complex set of rules and instructions outlining the workers’ compensation system in our State. The specific chapters in the Nevada Revised Statutes covering workers’ compensation are the following: NRS 616A–NRS 617 and NAC 616A– NAC 617. All benefits, compensation, or other rights given to the injured worker come directly from laws and regulations passed by the Nevada Legislature.

For an injured worker to obtain a specific benefit under workers’ compensation, a specific statute or regulation providing for that benefit must exist in the law. Without a specific statute to back up an injured workers’ request for benefits or compensation, the request will be unsuccessful. Therefore, as counsel for injured workers, we must be able to rely on specific statutes or regulations when asking the court to order the workers’ compensation insurer to provide a given benefit or compensation or to enforce a right. The limitations imposed by this statutory system can be frustrating, at times, for the injured worker. But an experienced workers’ compensation attorney will be able to navigate the system and use all available statutes and regulations to get the best possible result for their clients.

1. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, 2 tbsp water, brown sugar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. 2. Spray a deep, nonstick skillet with cooking oil and place over high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon as it cooks. 3. Add the onion, garlic, and ginger to the meat and cook for 1 minute. 4. Pour sauce over the beef, then cover and simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. 5. Divide rice evenly into four serving bowls. Top each with scant 2/3 cup beef, cucumber slices, sesame seeds, scallions, and gochujang, to taste.

Hunkering down and waiting for the dark and chilly winter season to pass sounds pretty nice. But the reality is, if we deprive ourselves of time outside, we do ourselves a big disservice both mentally and physically. Staying indoors all day affects your energy and mood, which makes it hard to get anything done, so here are four easy tips to make it easier to get a little fresh air. 1. MAKE IT A PRIORITY. Getting outside means making the conscious effort to do so. If you want to reap its benefits, you have to decide to make it a priority in your day-to-day schedule. If you make the act important to you, you have more motivation to actually do it. 2. USE MORNINGS EFFECTIVELY. Waking up and getting the day started can be hard. But studies have shown that natural light helps decrease your melatonin production, which means you feel ready to face the day sooner. So, set yourself a second alarm to head outside and take a quick walk around the block just after waking. Don’t even wash your face or grab coffee. Just get out there. 3. TAKE YOUR WORK OUTSIDE. If you’re working from home, take some work outdoors. Phone and virtual meetings are a great outdoor option, especially if you’ll just be an active listener and aren’t required

to do any work simultaneously. Attach a note to your meeting reminders to get yourself set up outside five minutes before you start.

4. CREATE A SCHEDULE. It might feel strange to set reminders throughout the day to step outside, but you easily get wrapped up in activities and overlook breaks, and these reminders are exactly what you need. Start with 10-minute blocks three times a day. If you stick to them, soon you won’t need a schedule to get outside anymore. Winter weather may be cold, but even when you’re bundled up under a jacket and scarf, just 5–10 minutes outside can do wonders for your mood and energy for hours.
