After two years of hosting virtual meetings, plans are well underway for an in-person ASM22 . I hope you are as excited about reconvening at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre as I am. In consultation with several event experts, the Ontario Dental Association’s goal is to provide many exciting and engaging courses, vendors and events that the entire dental team can enjoy safely and responsibly. Silken Laumann, inspiring Olympic hero and mental health advocate, will open the Annual Spring Meeting with her keynote address on Thursday, May 5. Neil Pasricha, happiness expert and bestselling author of The Book of Awesome , will speak on Friday morning, May 6. We are thrilled to be able to showcase both of these thought-provoking speakers. As for continuing education, we have curated a diverse variety of clinical, practice-management and personal development courses for you and your team. Make sure you sign up for the hands-on workshops in advance; they are always very popular and sell out quickly. Some of our feature courses include: • Minimizing Risk and Maximizing Success in Endodontics — Dr. Brett E. Gilbert • Geriatric Dentistry: The Fastest-Growing Demographic in Dentistry — Dr. Lou Graham • Dental Caries: A Simplified Treatment Model — Dr. Kim Kutsch • Cosmetic Pearls for the General Practitioner — Dr. Marty Zase This year’s Oral Health Strategy Symposium focuses on antimicrobial stewardship. Antibiotics are life-saving drugs. Antibiotic resistance is described as a “slow pandemic” and is considered a pressing international public health problem associated with increased morbidity, mortality and health care costs. This three-day symposium will provide insight on how dental teams can help in raising awareness, preventing and controlling infections and optimizing the use of antibiotics through antimicrobial stewardship in dentistry. We are also looking forward to reconnecting with and supporting our favourite vendors on the Exhibits Floor. The Exhibits Floor will be open Thursday and Friday (May 5 and May 6). It will offer complimentary feature areas and will host two complimentary cocktail receptions to enhance your ASM experience. The pandemic has made everyone re-evaluate what is important in our daily lives. I, for one, took for granted how important networking and socializing with colleagues is to our professional lives. Welcome Message From the Education Advisory Committee

Greetings from the President of the Association of Dental Technologists of Ontario

Karim Sahil, mdt , rdt ADTO President

In the past decades, dentistry and dental technology have advanced by leaps and bounds. These advances have been driven by improvements in computer processing power, leading to advances in digital technology (CAD/CAM) and improvements in biomaterials. However, has the communication between a Dentist and a Dental Technologist seen similar advances? Registered Dental Technologists (RDT) today have adopted new ways of providing services to clinicians which aid in harmonious treatment planning. Not only does this allow for both healthcare professionals to reach a desired result but also exemplifies patient centered care. As an auxiliary team member, a Dental Technologist is a regulated healthcare professional and can bring a wealth of knowledge to the oral health team. It is my pleasure as President of the Association of Dental Technologists of Ontario (ADTO) to welcome you to this ODA ASM22. We welcome you to visit the ADTO booth and discuss with us why an RDT is an integral part of the oral health care system.

Antimicrobial Stewardship SYMPOSIUM

Antibiotic resistance is considered a pressing international public health problem, associated with increased morbidity, mortality and health care costs. Antibiotic consumption is recognized as a cause of emerging resistance, some of which is directly attributed to the indiscriminate or poor use of antibiotics. In this symposium, international experts will discuss these issues and the role of dental teams in raising awareness, preventing and controlling infections, and optimizing the use of antibiotics through antibiotic stewardship in dentistry.
