Equipment Installations Help Elite Print Finishing Grow BY JACKIE SCHULTZ 2020 was a milestone year for Elite Print Finishing, Inc. (EPF). The North Carolina trade finisher installed two major pieces of equipment to bet- ter service its growing folding carton customer base. Marketing under the tagline “Impressions that Last,” EPF offers post- press services for commercial printers and packaging plants, including folding carton and envelope manufacturers and trading card and greet- ing card printers. “Our business has really changed through the years,”

Graphic Packaging owned 79.5 percent of the partnership and was sole manager, while International Paper owned 20.5 percent. As part of the final transaction, 22,773,072 membership units were exchanged for an equivalent number of shares of Graphic Pack- aging common stock. The total number of shares of the Company’s common stock out- standing following the transaction is roughly 306.9 million shares. Graphic Packaging Concludes IP Partnership Graphic Packaging Holding Company an- nounced the conclusion of its partnership with International Paper Company. The final tranche of the membership interests held by Interna- tional Paper in Graphic Packaging International Partners, LLC were exchanged for an equiva- lent number of shares of Graphic Packaging common stock. As a result, Graphic Packaging now owns 100 percent of the Partnership. Graphic Packaging Holding Company is a provider of sustainable fiber-based packag- ing solutions for a wide variety of products to food, beverage, foodservice, and other con- sumer products companies.

Up until 2020 our commercial side of the business seemed to be growing as well. With COVID we’ve still continued to grow, but it has been heavily folding carton.” Even before the global pandemic, Roberts recognized an opportuni- ty to diversify capabilities by investing in an MGI JETvarnish 3D digital embellishment press from Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. and a PPCTS DGM Smartfold 1100SL Ultra X2S folder-gluer. Both machines were installed last year. These purchases were part of a bigger plan to expand the business and gain a competitive advantage, especially in folding cartons. “There was definitely a strategy. Being a finishing company I need to be able to do everything that my commercial, folding carton and envelope ac- counts can’t do,” Roberts explained. U.S. Packaging Papers, Specialty Packaging Shipments Up In April U.S. total packaging papers & specialty packaging ship- ments in April 2021 increased 4 percent compared to April 2020. They were up 1 percent when compared to the same four months of 2020, as the American Forest & Paper Association reported. The operating rate was 95.1 percent, up 9.6 points from April 2020 and up 5.2 points year-to-date. Mill inventories at the end of April increased 9,000 short tons from the previous month and were up 20,000 short tons compared to April 2020. The American Forest & Paper Association serves to ad- vance a sustainable U.S. pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products manufacturing industry through fact- based public policy and marketplace advocacy.
