It’s Scary to Need a Lawyer,
But It’s Terrifying to Go It Alone
something you’ve been waiting for or looking forward to. And to be honest, you should approach your first meeting with a prospective attorney with a healthy dose of skepticism. Hiring the right person can make or break your case, so it’s important to take your decision seriously. At Coye Law, we believe that a client should come away with two impressions after the initial meeting. First, they should know, without a hint of doubt, that we are on their side. No matter the case or the client, we fight for you. That’s the crux of our job. Second, the client should be aware that we’re providing straight-up information and no marketing b.s. Do we want you to feel comfortable about hiring us? Of course. Are we going to lie to you about your case to provide that comfort? No way. To achieve these goals, we need our team to be able to relate to people and put them at ease. Luckily, over our years of experience, we’ve encountered hundreds of people going through difficult times. We have an understanding and appreciation for what you’re going through. When you work with us, you’ll never feel like you’re a number, case file, or anything less than a human being. Learning about and empathizing with you isn’t just good manners; it can also help your claim. Every detail we can gather about your life and experience could prove useful. It takes time to be able to be fully open, even with attorney-client privileges, so we don’t expect that you’ll tell us everything the second you meet us. Over time, though, we seek to earn your trust and give you the confidence to discuss every aspect of your case with us. Hiring an attorney is, to be sure, about finding a competent, experienced person who will work tirelessly on your case. However, it’s just as important to work with somebody who you believe in. At Coye Law, we strive to be both those things for you. -Wade Coye
Being in a car accident, getting injured at work, having benefits denied — these events are scarier than any horror movie. When you leave the theater or shut off the TV, the monsters go away. When you have to navigate the aftermath of a major life event, there’s no switch that turns everything back to normal. Handling serious claims and cases requires a sensitivity to what our clients are going through. We don’t overlook how crucial this portion of our job is. Getting the best possible result is always our main goal, and doing that means treating clients with the dignity and respect they deserve. When a client steps into our office, they’re already going through a tough time. An unexpected problem has occurred in their life. On top of whatever event brought them to us, they could be experiencing financial stress, professional pressure, or family strife. Needless to say, all of these factors add up to trepidation and skepticism. When nothing’s going your way, it’s hard to trust people.
I’m here to tell you that we get it. Stress takes many forms, and we understand that the day you consider hiring an attorney isn’t

Best in Show or Halloween Hazard? Costume Safety Tips for Kids For many kids, picking out a costume is the best part of Halloween. Will they be a spooky witch, a wildcat, or their favorite superhero? There are so many options! But in all the fun, it can be easy for parents to overlook certain risks that Halloween costumes can pose. Here are important safety tips to remember when choosing the best Halloween costume. everywhere on Halloween night, so make sure your child’s costume isn’t a fire hazard. Most store-bought costumes are made from fire-resistant materials, but you should still check the labels on all costumes, wigs, and accessories. The same goes when you’re buying fabric for homemade costumes. And remember, fire-resistant is not the same as fireproof. While fire-resistant material takes longer to burn and can be put out quickly, it can still catch fire and cause serious injuries. Remind your child to use caution around open flames and avoid costumes with flimsy, hanging components, like flowing sleeves, long skirts, and capes. TEST MAKEUP FIRST. Halloween is a great time to have fun with face paint, and makeup is a good alternative to masks, which can obscure a child’s vision. Nobody wants to be injured in a car accident. If dealing with a serious health issue isn’t bad enough, you have to worry about paying for medical care and treatment. These bills can pile up in a hurry, putting a serious financial strain on your family. Luckily, there are five possible resources that can help pay your bills. Let’s go over those now, along with some of the pitfalls associated with them. Florida Personal Injury Protection/No Fault Benefits • Pays 80 percent of medical expenses and may pay 60 percent of lost wages, up to $10,000 • Covers you regardless of who is at fault in an accident • Pitfall — if you don’t seek medical treatment within 14 days of an accident, the insurance company may not have to pay any of your bills. Health Insurance • Pays for medical care provided you see a doctor within your plan • Has a right to be repaid in the event of a settlement • Pitfall — some doctors do not treat car accident patients. Make sure you work with a doctor who is interested in treating you. LOOK FOR FIRE-RESISTANT COSTUMES. Candles inside jack-o’-lanterns and other open flames are
However, a lot of costume makeup isn’t approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Before letting your child cover their face in makeup from the Halloween store, test their skin for allergic reactions by putting just a little bit on the back of their hand first. PRACTICE PROP SAFETY. What’s a Jedi Knight without her lightsaber or a wizard without his magic wand? The right accessories can really bring a costume together, but it’s important that props — especially weapon props, like swords, knives, or guns — are not mistaken for the real thing. Choose props that are obviously fake, with round edges made from soft, flexible material. And if your child wants to wear their Halloween costume to school or some other event, check the rules on props beforehand to avoid any trouble.
Halloween is a night for ghosts and goblins to come out to play, and with these tips, your kids can safely dress up and join in the fun.

‘The Art of Learning’ A Child Prodigy Rethinks Success This is a book about a journey. It chronicles a life of international chess tournaments, high-stakes martial arts competitions, a boy who found too much success, and the man who had to relearn everything because of it. Yes, “The Art of Learning” reads like a gripping, emotional memoir, but make no mistake — Josh Waitzkin’s work doubles as an effective guide for business owners striving to attain perfection in their fields. Josh Waitzkin’s name will be familiar to longtime chess fans and movie buffs alike. As a child prodigy, Waitzkin won his first national chess title at age 9, which quickly made him an international sensation. His father, Fred Waitzkin, wrote the renowned book “Searching for Bobby Fischer,” chronicling his young son’s journey into the world of chess. This then inspired the movie of the same name. Now, one does not normally think of child prodigies as being great sources of insight into finding success. By definition, prodigies are exceptional — exceptions who operate on a different playing field than most. But Waitzkin firmly positions his journey through the chess world as the antithesis of what he calls “the art of learning.”
As the author states, “The moment we believe that success is determined by an ingrained level of ability as opposed to resilience and hard work, we will be brittle in the face of adversity.” Waitzkin
was very gifted at chess, and he didn’t have to push himself early on, but by the time he did find challenging opponents, he found loss and adaptation impossible to handle. It wasn’t until he stepped out of the rigid grids of chess and into the flowing movements of tai chi that Waitzkin was able to formulate a guide to success. Appropriately subtitled “An Inner Journey to Optimal Performance,” Waitzkin’s story of grappling with childhood stardom and climbing the brackets of the tai chi chuan circuit is full of wisdom applicable to anyone looking to achieve mastery in their field. With compelling personal anecdotes and a unique perspective on what success really looks like, “The Art of Learning” is a fresh, vibrant addition to the personal development genre.

A Tribute to Mr. John Ellis We should all hope to be as healthy and live such a life.
Last month, I received a call from a long-term client and friend of mine, Mrs. Mary Ellis. She reached out to inform me that her husband, John, had passed away at 104 years old. John and Mary first came to my firm about 20 years ago. John came recently after getting in a car accident at 1 a.m. and told the defense lawyer he was out driving so late because “My great grandkid needed a ride home and called me, so I went to pick him up.” He was a real treasure, and he will be greatly missed. This unfortunate news just reminds me that the clients my team and I meet with every day are important, and they really appreciate our team’s help, thoughts, hard work, and inspired legal work. I know John did.

The Birthplace of Halloween
The Real Halloween Town County Meath, Ireland, Where Halloween Began
Today, Meath celebrates Oct. 31 with a blend of spooky thrills and traditional Samhain practices. The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival starts with the lighting of the first torch fire of Samhain in Athboy, which kicks off a month of fun activities. If you like your Halloween extra spooky, the scream park, Farmaphobia, is waiting for you. And if you’re not a fan of screaming your head off, you can check out the Halloween- themed Spookling Afternoon Tea for fresh-baked treats and spirited conversation. The motto of this all-ages festival is “Fun by Day; Frights by Night,” meaning all the really scary ghosts wait until after sunset to come out. There are plenty of ways to celebrate Halloween, from carving jack-o’-lanterns and eating chocolate to running for your life through a haunted corn maze. And in County Meath, you can celebrate Halloween in every possible way. For more info, visit www.Discoverboynevalley.ie/whats-on/spirits-meath- halloween-festival-2018.
Fans of Halloween don’t need to look far to find somewhere to celebrate their favorite holiday. There are festive parties all over the world, from New Orleans to London, but if you really want to embrace the spirit of Halloween, there’s no better destination than the birthplace of the holiday: County Meath, Ireland. Every year in Boyne Valley, the residents of County Meath throw a month-long Halloween celebration. The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival attracts thousands of guests from all over the world, and while this festival has only been celebrated since 2009, many of the traditions observed here date back to ancient times. The ancient Irish weren’t trick-or-treating or visiting haunted houses on Oct. 31, but they were celebrating the pagan holiday Samhain. Over 3,000 years ago, this Celtic festival was born in Meath and marked the end of the harvest. Samhain was celebrated with bonfires, offerings to fairies, and other rituals meant to keep evil spirits away. Many of these customs carried through the centuries and inspired Halloween traditions that are still practiced today.
