EXPLO at Sarah Lawrence Summer Packing List

For All Students

EXPLO provides all the athletic equipment you’ll need during the summer, with the exception of mouthguards and soccer cleats. We strongly recommend that mouth- guards be worn for a variety of sports, and it is best if you bring a pre-fitted mouthguard with you from home. Soccer cleats are highly recommended, but not required, for participation in the soccer workshop and clinic. Feel free to bring your own racquets, gloves, shin guards, etc., though EXPLO will provide these. Sports Equipment For all athletic activities, cooking, and some science and performing arts classes, closed-toe shoes are required. We recommend that every student come to EXPLO with a pair of sneakers. Closed-Toe Shoes Students should bring 75 disposable surgical-style masks with them on Arrival Day. At this time, we plan to require all students and staff to wear masks while at the program, regardless of their vaccination status. Should this require- ment change, we will communicate with families directly. Masks For Residential Students

If you enjoy playing, we encourage you to bring your instruments to share your music with students and staff. There are numerous opportunities throughout the summer to share your talents. Musical Instruments A summer at EXPLO will have plenty of opportunities to dress up. Wigs, masks, full outfits – bring what you’ve got if you can. Costumes The dormitory spaces are not air conditioned, so we recommend bringing a desk or stand fan. Fans Students will have access to the college’s washers and dryers twice over the course of the session. Each machine costs $1.50 and can be charged to students’ college access card, which will then be billed to their EXPLO miscellaneous account. Don’t worry: we’ll provide reminders on when and how to do laundry! Laundry

*Students will not have access to their cell phones. **Students are strongly discouraged from bringing large amounts of cash to the Program, though most families do choose to send their children some spending money. Please refer to the EXPLO Essentials Handbook for more details. ***The pandemic has resulted in EXPLO not using this pool this summer, but there may still be other opportunities to wear a bathing suit throughout the summer.

Linen

EXPLO can provide a linen set up upon request. Full linen sets include a flat/fitted sheet, pillow/pillowcase, blanket, and bath towel/washcloth. Most students prefer to bring their own bedding.

Students Should NOT Bring

• Stereo Systems: small radios or radio/alarm clocks are fine. • Appliances: air conditioners, refrigerators, toasters, hot plates, coffee makers, etc. • Weapons: including toy weapons and pocket knives. • Skateboards, scooters, hoverboards and bicycles: Our schedule is too full to make use of this type of equipment. Day students may commute on a bicycle. • Medication in student rooms: Students may not keep any kind of medication in their rooms. Please register all medications through CampDoc before the summer. Medications will be administered through the Health Office. • Expensive electronics: Personal computers, televisions, and other items that may interfere with your full participation in the student community and activities offered at the program. While we strongly discourage students from bringing tablet computers (iPads, Kindle Fires, etc.) for the same reason, we will allow occasional use for the purposes of reading or listening to music. Internet capabilities on any of these devices must be deactivated. Tablets will not be allowed off the hall, and wireless internet is not available. (Internet access will be available through the program’s computer labs on a daily basis beginning the second Monday of the session.)
