WHY CHOOSE MIDDLE COLLEGE?

Middle College High School (MCHS) is a small, rigorous comprehensive high school that is unique in that students can achieve both a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree or units towards a four- year college degree simultaneously. Offering primarily a dual-enrollment academic program, our school is located on the Santa Ana College (SAC) campus, providing our high school students with immediate access to a college atmosphere and resources. MCHS is both a small and big campus. Students can experience a small-school experience in which every student and teacher knows one another, like a “family”. However, there is a “big school” atmosphere in that we are located on SAC’s campus, and students matriculate with regular college students in college courses. Our students aren’t just preparing for college; our students are also experiencing college.

Chávez High School has Círculos which is one of the eighteen XQ Superschools in the country, and is a “RISE” (Resiliency in School Environments) School, one of 20 in the nation, and is the only high school to offer an opportunity to earn a diploma in a night school. As a result, Chávez is a high school that offers non-traditional options for students to experience school in “classrooms without walls”, and to experience school in the only District school which has a firmly established trauma informed culture. Additionally, classes fulfilling the A through G college requirements can be taken at accelerated rates; meaning that students are able to obtain a high school diploma and enter into a university or career earlier that what is possible at traditional high schools. Chávez is also working to expand its offering of CTE (Career and Technical Education) classes that lead to industry certifications leading to career pathways. All this, is so that students at César E. Chávez High School can be delivered a rigorous and meaningful education empowering them to achieve dreams for college and/or career.
