HOWMANY WEEKS HOLIDAY ARE MY EMPLOYEES ENTITLED TO? All employees are entitled to 5.6 working weeks of holiday per year. This means if an employee works 5 days a week they are entitled to 28 days holiday a year.

DO I NEED TO INCLUDE BANK HOLIDAYS INMY EMPLOYEES HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT? Most companies will offer 20 days and 8 bank holidays for their full time staff.

ONE OF MY EMPLOYEES WANTS TO CARRY OVER THEIR UNUSED HOLIDAYS TO NEXT YEAR, IS THIS OKAY? The basic principle here is that you use it or lose it unless stated in your contract of employment. Exceptions should be made however for those on maternity leave, long term sick leave or other discretionary reasons.
MY EMPLOYEEWORKS VARIABLE HOURS, WHAT IS THEIR HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT? Employees who work variable hours should accrue holiday time at a percentage rate of what is worked.
WHAT IS THE RATE OF HOLIDAY PAY? Holiday pay should be the same as the employee’s normal rate of pay.
If an employee is on a variable pay scheme then they should be paid an average whilst on holiday. This amount will vary from case to case but the principle here is that there should be no financial disincentive to taking holidays.
If this applies to your business we strongly recommend seeking advice as holiday pay can vary greatly from person to person.
