How to Apply Where We Are
TO HSDC
Hello and welcome to our courses for adults. This year, the government is investing £2.5 billion in the National Skills Fund. The National Skills Fund will help adults to train and gain the valuable skills they need to improve their job prospects. Whether you want to change career, develop new skills, climb the career ladder or just want to enhance your knowledge, we offer a wide range of courses to help you achieve your goals. Indeed, HSDC exists to realise the ambitions of our community – raising aspirations, enabling achievement and fulfilling dreams. This guide will offer you an introduction to our courses and our Outstanding adult provision. More information is available on our website, alternatively, contact our Admissions team for further information, advice and guidance. We look forward to welcoming you to our learning community.

REDUNDANCY SUPPORT
Have you been affected by redundancy? HSDC can support you through this difficult time.
Redundancy is affecting more and more people because of coronavirus. We provide a variety of free part time courses for adults who are unemployed and are seeking to return to work, or individuals who would like to develop their skills.
We teach practical skills for individuals or local businesses. We can also provide information, guidance and access to careers information to help you get the most out of your time with us. We run courses at both our Havant and South Downs campuses, along with a number of locations in the Portsmouth area including Leigh Park Learning Centre.
4
Built around developing or learning new skills and increasing confidence, we have specifically designed courses (programmes) in partnership with employers, local authorities and job centres, to meet not only your needs but the employment opportunities within our local communities. We offer courses suitable for various industries including Business Administration, Customer Service, Retail, Digital Skills, Warehousing & Storage, IT Users, Prevention & Control of Infection and Hospitality & Catering. We offer these courses mainly face to face, however, some of them are available as an online taught version. We also have a suite of pure distance learning courses available, see page 38.
Using dedicated staff with industry experience and delivering nationally recognised qualifications, these programmes are fully funded if you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits such as UC, JSA and ESA. For full information about these courses (programmes) and how they could help you to find your next job or career, please contact James Lavington or Rachel Walker ([email protected], [email protected]) or call (LPLC number 02392 498640).
Leigh Park Learning Centre 02392 498640 [email protected] [email protected]
COVID-19
We are taking robust measures to ensure that the wellbeing of all students and staff is of paramount importance during the global outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are closely monitoring the official guidance and are vigilant in ensuring all staff and students are constantly updated on the ongoing situation. In the eventuality that start dates of any courses are delayed due to the outbreak moving forward, we will keep applicants fully informed.

We offer a range of GCSE, Access and Higher Education courses.
Access courses are specifically designed to support and enable individuals who do not have the entry requirements to study at university.

ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION
An Access to Higher Education Diploma is the ideal way for adults who may have missed out on Higher Education, A Levels or Level 3 qualifications when they were younger to qualify for entry to a degree or other Higher Education course. The Access qualification is a popular, nationally recognised qualification designed to provide you with the skills you need to bridge the gap between your current qualifications and a degree-level course. You’ll develop your knowledge and skills in key areas of practice, as well as improve your analytical and essay writing abilities to prepare you for higher level education.
On successful completion of your Access course, you could progress onto a Higher Education course at HSDC. We pride ourselves on offering a cost‑effective alternative to university. Taught by expert lecturers, we offer a range of Higher Education courses, including HNC/HND, Foundation and BA (Hons) degrees.
