TO HSDC
Hello and welcome to our guide to Higher Education (HE) courses here at HSDC. We are proud to offer one of the largest Higher Education provisions within a Further Education setting locally. In 2021, we also extended our Higher Education offering to our Alton Campus. Studying at a higher level (up to degree level) at college is a great way to further your studies whether you are returning to study, continuing after college or studying alongside work and it is extremely cost- effective! Our courses have much smaller class sizes than traditional university courses, this means that the support you receive is exceptional, with detailed and timely feedback allowing you to improve and excel.
It is important to us that you develop and progress in your chosen industry, that is why our professional courses are designed with technical skills and employability at the heart of them. All our courses have great links with employers to enable you to apply what you have learnt in the classroom to the real-world. What’s more, after completing a Foundation Degree or an HND, you can then progress to university to complete the final year of your study. In fact, in some areas, you can complete your full degree at HSDC! Our free (to under 19 years old) UAL courses also qualify as the first year of a creative degree with certain partner universities. Please don’t hesitate to visit our website or to contact our Admissions Team for further information, advice and guidance. We look forward to welcoming you into our college community.

GET QUALIFIED AND GET ON…
We are proud of our proven student success rate. Whether you’re aspiring to pursue a new career or want to continue your professional development within your current job role, our Higher Education courses allow you to progress onto your chosen destination. University and Progression Agreements All of our courses enable progression onto a Level 6 (Top-Up) course at local and national universities. We have also established progression agreements with local universities, including Solent University Southampton, allowing students to move seamlessly onto the next level. Suitably qualified HSDC students are able to progress to designated university undergraduate degree programmes, and the qualifications they have earned at HSDC will count toward their Bachelor’s degree requirements. For example, students on the Level 4 UAL Professional Diploma in Music Production who receive a pass will receive direct entry into Year 2 of the BSc (Hons) Popular Music Production degree at Solent University Southampton.
Employment Many of our students advance within employment after studying with us, whether progressing into management roles in their current employment or seeking new exciting opportunities within their chosen sector. Degree Apprenticeships Some students have also moved into degree Apprenticeships, furthering their learning within the workplace. For me, the best part of this course was the practical elements. The course is structured in a way that the theory learnt was then used to create practical projects, giving me a much better understanding and complement my learning style. Having already gained the experience in my field, the next step to develop was my academic side. This will now give me many more opportunities to advance myself while also allowing me to continue my studies at a degree level. I would highly recommend this course for anyone considering taking it. Being a mature student, I was at first apprehensive. However, it didn’t take long to get back into learning and using my previous experience really helped with certain assignments. OUR HE QUALIFICATIONS
UAL, Professional Diplomas All of our Creative Arts courses are accredited by the University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body, and through our various partnerships can qualify as the first year of a Bachelor’s degree. UAL is the leading provider for creative and performing arts courses and a specialist for the creative industry. These courses are free to students under 19 years old, or you can apply for an adult learner loan. HNC/HND Qualifications Higher National Certificate (HNC) and Higher National Diploma (HND) courses are equivalent to the first (HNC) and second (HND) year of a university Bachelor’s degree. Each are qualifications in their own right and having a Higher Education qualification can significantly improve your career opportunities. Once you have completed your course, you’ll also have the opportunity to top-up your qualification to a full degree thanks to our links with a range of universities. Annual course fees for HNCs and HNDs are less than a full degree.
Foundation Degree A Foundation Degree is the equivalent to the first two years of a Bachelor’s Degree. Designed in consultation with employers, they focus on developing the skills sought after in a working environment. Because of this, they are ideal for those who are seeking progression into employment or are wishing to further their current career. Equally, upon completion, you also have the opportunity to top-up your qualification to an undergraduate degree. BA (Hons) With two of our courses, you can gain the full recognised degree, a BA (Hons). This is exactly the same qualification you would get if you were attending a traditional university. On completion of the course, you can then progress on to employment or a Master’s level qualification with one of our university partners.

BUSINESS HND (University of Portsmouth)
Venue: South Downs Campus Duration: 2 years (full time) Awarding Institution: University of Portsmouth Cost: £6,165 per year
On this course you will study:
Year 1: – Marketing – Business Finance
– Organisational Theory – Business Environment – Business Law – Purchasing – Human Resources Management – Applied Marketing Year 2:
Overview This HND programme in Business is linked to the University of Portsmouth, aimed at giving you the latest knowledge and skills for a changing business environment. As a student you’ll work closely with highly qualified teachers who have both academic and industry-based backgrounds in business. You will study a number of units as indicated in the course structure that are each worth 15 credits, one of which is a substantial business-related research project, which will develop the skills and analytical tools you will need for your final year dissertation on an Honours Degree. Why Choose This Course? The HND in Business is a great option for those who want to study at Level 4 and 5 but don’t want to go to a traditional university. Class sizes are smaller (around 15) and you really get to know your lecturers (and they get to know you). The subjects covered on this course are the same you would study at university. The big difference…you pay £6,165 per year! In addition to this, you are a University of Portsmouth student and will have access to the library, sports facilities and clubs that make Higher Education study so great. And finally, you can stay in halls if you wish. Structure The University of Portsmouth’s HND Business qualification has been designed and updated by the Business School and is in line with the QCF and relevant FHEQ benchmarks. All students achieve the award once they have accumulated 240 credits. This is normally achieved after two years of full time study.
