WHEN PEOPLE CARE ABOUT PEOPLE Mark Gilzeane on the Client Relationship
I have known since high school that I wanted to work in the financial industry. In the 1990s,
they were on the leading edge of the Jamaican financial market. They are focused on innovation and offering the latest financial solutions and strategies. More than that, JMMB maintains a culture that is very much centred on people. Love is at the centre of its ethos. It a focus that reflects on the way JMMB engages with clients and how people within the company work with one another. People care about people, and this isn’t a sentiment you often hear about in the financial industry.
while at Campion College, I made that career choice, and I worked hard to
achieve that goal. Over the past 17 years, I have realised that goal, and today, I serve as a Personal Portfolio Manager at JMMB.
As a Personal Portfolio Manager, I partner with clients who are on a journey to further
As passionate as I am about working in finance and with clients, I do have a few major passions outside of work. One, I am a family man who wants nothing more than to be a good father to my three boys, Matthew (8), Benjamin (5), and Brandon-Luke (10 months). I hope to serve as a worthy example of what it is to be a man.

wealth accumulation. They have worked hard for their money, and now they want to put it to work for them. I provide customised financial solutions to give our clients an edge when it comes to achieving their risk- return objectives.
It’s our clients who make this job truly remarkable. I enjoy every moment I spend with them. There is something satisfying about being able to discuss financial terms and concepts with those who may not be well-versed in finance. On top of that, I am on the frontline of their portfolios. I see the day-to-day growth, whether it’s growth from returns or growth from an increasingly diverse portfolio. This is growth that puts our clients yet another step closer to their financial goals. But it’s about much more than portfolio and performance. It’s about the stories and relationships. I love hearing the many exploits of my clients’ children and grandchildren. I hear the love in their voices as they tell me about their families and their varying accomplishments. Of course, I do love talking finance with my clients, as well — and not just as it relates to the job at hand. There are always new stories from around the world, and from right here at home, that influences our financial, social- political and macroeconomic landscape.
Another big passion of mine is the automobile. I have been called a ‘car nut’ a time or two. I am into just about everything car-related, from reading up on the current happenings at Tesla (and their breakthroughs in the battery- powered car arena) to relishing in the latest developments on the sports car side of the market. I will admit, even in my spare time, I have financial market developments on the brain. My colleagues occasionally give me grief for it when we’re on lunch and they can’t understand why I want to cut into ‘Family Feud’ to check out the latest headlines on Bloomberg, my favorite network. I can’t help it. I simply love it too much! -Mark Gilzeane
These conversations are one of the many reasons why I love to work at JMMB. When I was exploring career options, I chose JMMB because I knew

SMARTEN UP YOUR HOME The Latest in Home Technology
We’ve all had those days when you leave the
Another company at the forefront of household tech is Nest, best known for their thermostats. Nest thermostats are not only fully customisable based on time and weather conditions, but they can also program themselves through the Nest Learning System. Using the product is also energy efficient, saving you money on the electric bill. If you want to your house to be fully teched out, then SmartThings is the best option. The SmartThings hub allows you to connect an infinite number of devices to your phone. These devices can even ‘talk’ to each other once they are part of your SmartThings system. If you want your coffee pot to turn on the moment you start running the shower, you can do that. You can also connect SmartThings to voice assistants like the Amazon Echo, which will allow you to turn on appliances with the sound of your voice. Interconnecting your home appliances will only grow easier in the coming years. Whether you want to dip your toe in the water or dive in fully, there’s a product out there for you.
house, a cold chill runs down your spine and your mind is flooded with doubt. Did I leave the stove on? Is the door unlocked?
Luckily, like many common problems, the tech world is trying to make these worries a thing of the past. There are now a variety of apps that allow you to control nearly every aspect of your home from your phone, no matter where you are.
At the simpler end of the spectrum are Belkin’s WeMo products. WeMo makes smart plugs that allow you to remotely
operate any device that plugs into the wall. They’re great for products like hair straighteners that can pose a fire hazard if left unattended.

A sale and leaseback constitutes an arrangement where the seller of an asset leases back the same asset from the purchaser. A leaseback arrangement is useful when companies need to untie the cash invested in an asset for other investments, but the asset is still needed in order to operate. The lessor benefits in that they will receive stable payments for a specified period of time.
