And GG Gretchen’s Kitchen GRAMMEY’S COOKING

My grandmother, Olga E. Dunn, still cooked great food at the age of one hundred. We were blessed in my family to have “Grammey’s” cooking in our house growing up in Montana, Washington, and Idaho. In fact, she is the inspiration for the most popular item in my newsletter every month: GG Gretchen’s Kitchen. Gretchen is Olga’s daughter and, of course, GG is my mom. The black and white photo is of my grandmother from 1955. Born in Norway in 1901, we celebrated her 100th birthday in March of 2001. In the mid 1950s, my grandmother, along with my teenage mother, owned a restaurant called the Dairee Freeze. On the edge of the resort town of Whitefish, Montana, Olga’s kitchen featured hamburgers, sundaes, floats, shakes, root beer, hot dogs, and her specialty: Chicken in the Ruff. My grandmother worked hard as a solopreneur and a single mom trying to make a go of it. She did that, and more — much more. My grandmother always

said that it was all about quality, taste, and value. I cannot speak to the value because I was too young in the ’70s, but I can tell you that growing up with her cooking I became convinced that it was the best tasting food ever!

As you might expect, the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Perhaps more accurately, the egg didn’t fall far from the frying pan. My mom, Olga’s daughter, soon took on the title of best cook in the world. I love sharing her favorite dishes with you each month through the GG Gretchen’s Kitchen feature in this newsletter. It’s not only a way to bless you as my reader, but it also honors my mother and, most of all, recognizes the impact my grandmother continues to have on all of us. I would like to remind you in this month of Mother’s Day to honor the past and the present, and to share great stories about the moms in your life. No matter the skill set of the moms you hold dear (best decorator, designer, role model, or — in my case — the best cook in the world), share your mother and grandmother’s legacy with others. After all, as Grammey taught me, the world always needs a good meal with family and friends.

From cinnamon rolls to French

dip sandwiches to chocolate pies and split pea soup, her food was grade A.

FREE YOUR TEAM FROM ‘MEETING BRAIN DRAIN’ And Watch Your Sales Soar Here’s a shocking statistic for you: According to a Productivity

meetings at 4–6 people when possible. If you have a daily company huddle, consider making it weekly or even monthly to save brain space. 2. When you meet, always set an agenda. We’ve all attended “30-minute” meetings that stretched to two hours as the speakers rambled. Don’t let this become the norm! Instead,

Trends Report from ReclaimAI, the average professional is spending almost 309% more time in one-on-one meetings right now than they did before the pandemic.

That’s crazy! Worse, it’s a waste of valuable time and a drain on your team’s productivity. Meetings can be productive, but there’s a reason why the phrase “This should have been an email” exists. If you pull your best people into Zoom call after Zoom call, they won’t have the focus they need to work quickly and perform at their best. That has implications across every department from marketing and sales to billing.

set an agenda for every meeting — even a routine check-in — and stick to it. If you’re a talker, consider including timestamps with each item to really keep you on task and get your team back to work ASAP. (Not sure how to write a fantastic agenda? Visit HBR.org and search “How to Design an Agenda” for an in-depth article on the topic.)

3. Encourage time blocking. Fewer interruptions to your team’s flow means it’s easier to get back in the zone, so try to cluster meetings during one part or “block” of the day/week. This will help your team build routines around those blocks, and they’ll be able to dive deep during non-meeting blocks without the fear of interruption.

Entrepreneur has a few suggestions for how to free your team from this brain drain.

1.

Say goodbye to company- and department- wide meetings. Think of building a meeting the same way you’d think of building a team: Add as many people as you need, and only that many. The more you can whittle down the required attendance for meetings, the less you will impact your employees’ productivity. Entrepreneur suggests keeping

Try these strategies today and watch your key performance indicators (KPIs) for lead generation, conversion, and retention closely. You might be surprised at the results!
