MESSAGE FROM THE KANSAS LOTTERY The Kansas Lottery offers you many exciting promotions and games for your entertainment and enjoyment. In Fiscal Year 2020, our players won more than $166 million in prizes. In addition, your play and that of all lottery players in Fiscal Year 2020 generated more than $69.1 million in transfers of net profits to the State of Kansas to be used for economic development to create and retain jobs in Kansas and for other worthwhile programs. In addition, the Lottery transfered over $1 million dollars to programs that directly benefit Kansas military veterans. The Kansas Lottery is committed to ensuring your confidence in the integrity and fairness of our games. We adhere to the highest standards of security and integrity and are devoted to providing excellent customer service. If you ever have questions or concerns, we want to hear from you. You may contact us at the address, telephone numbers and Kansas Lottery website shown below.
Problem gambling is gambling to the extent that it causes emotional, family, legal, financial or other problems for the gambler and the people around the gambler. Problem gambling can get worse over time and gambling problems can range from mild to severe. A problem gambler can be male, female, young, middle-aged, older adult, wealthy, poor or any individual from any racial/ethnic origin.
Problem Gambling Warning Signs: • Preoccupation with gambling • Talks only about wins, not losses
• Gambles as a way to escape from problems • Hides gambling losses from family members • Borrows money to fund gambling • Withdrawal from family and friends • Inability to stop or cut back on gambling
The Kansas Lottery Cares Since its inception, the Kansas Lottery has encouraged its players to play responsibly. We don’t want any player to spend more than he or she can easily afford to lose. The Lottery’s “Play Responsibly” messages are located on a variety of materials, with the goal being to provide each player with immediate, easy access to problem gambling assistance. For many years, the Kansas Lottery has contributed $80,000 a year to the Problem Gambling and Addictions Grant Fund. Primarily, this money has paid for the Kansas Problem Gambling HelpLine. With the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act, an additional two percent of net revenue from state-owned and -operated casino gaming goes to the Problem Gambling and Addictions Grant Fund, which may be used to treat not only problem gambling, but alcoholism, drug abuse and other addictive behaviors. HELP IS AVAILABLE If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, help is available. The Problem Gambling HelpLine is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A trained counselor will answer the call, and information is provided at no charge. Problem gambling treatment is also provided at no charge in Kansas.
We hope your lottery experience continues to be an enjoyable one. Please play responsibly and good luck!

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Since the Kansas Lottery’s start up in November 1987, through June 30, 2020, lottery ticket sales have produced nearly $1.9 billion in revenues transferred to the State of Kansas. In that same time period, nearly $3.6 billion worth of prizes have been paid to players, and retailers have earned more than $370 million in commissions. The Lottery’s fiscal year 2020, which ended June 30, 2020, produced nearly $275 million in sales and more than $69.1 million transferred to the state. The Kansas Lottery Act requires a minimum of 45 percent of total sales be paid back to the players through the prize fund. In fiscal year 2020, the Kansas Lottery paid out 60.6 percent in prizes. Transfers to state programs were 24.5 percent of ticket sales; cost of sales was 3.9 percent, which covers online vendor fees, telecommunications costs, and instant ticket printing; 5.9 percent was paid to Lottery retailers for commissions and bonuses; and 5.1 percent covered administrative expenses, including salaries, advertising, depreciation, professional services, and other expenses. Transfers from the State Gaming Revenues Fund are made as follows: first $80,000 to Problem Gambling Grant Fund, remaining 85 percent is earmarked for the Economic Development Initiatives Fund, 10 percent is allocated to
TICKET CHECKER It is easy to find out if your lottery tickets are winners. Just look for a new ticket checker machine at select lottery retailers. This machine checks all Kansas Lottery tickets, including draw, scratch and pull tab tickets. Simply place your ticket under the red scan light with the bar code under the latex or tab facing up.
HOW TO CLAIM YOUR PRIZE You may claim and be paid Kansas Lottery prizes of up to and including $599 at most Kansas Lottery retailers. To avoid a possible delay in receiving your prize, be sure to tell the clerk the amount of the prize before your ticket is validated. Prizes of $600 and more must be claimed at Lottery headquarters, either in person or by mail. A claim form must accompany your signed winning ticket. Claim forms are available at retail locations, Lottery headquarters or through our website. The Lottery is not responsible for any ticket lost or delayed in the mail. Prizes over $5,000 will not be paid the same day. A check will be mailed to you, or you may request an electronic deposit into your bank account. State and federal mandatory income withholding taxes are withheld from all prizes over $5,000. Prizes are also subject to setoffs as provided by state law. For more information call the State of Kansas Setoff Program hotline at 785-296-4628 or visit www.da.ks.gov/ar/setoff. Racetrax Bonus draws first, with a wheel that spins and stops to reveal which multiplier, if any, applies to the next races. The possible multiplies are as follows: No Bonus, 3X, 4X, 5X and 10X. If the horse(s) you selected win the race and you played Racetrax Bonus, your winnings will be multiplied as long as a multiplier was revealed. For example, if you win $7 on Racetrax, and the multiplier for that race is three, then you collect $21. If the multiplier is four, you collect $28, and so on. 7. Players can watch Racetrax races at select Kansas Lottery Retailers. Other options for checking your ticket can be a Ticket Checker machine at any Kansas Lottery Retailer or kslottery.com. 8. For additional information please see the Racetrax How to Play brochure or go to kslottery.com.
* The probability and prize payouts are derived from each horse’s probability of finishing 1st. ** Multiply $1 prize payout times dollars bet to determine payouts for other dollar amounts played per race. *** Divide $1 prize payout by either 10 or 2 to determine payouts when betting $.10 and $.50 per race, respectively.
