Welcome Thank you very much indeed for your interest in the position of Estates Director at Malvern College. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-looking team early in a new chapter for the Malvern College Family of Schools (MCFS), building on an inspiring 157- year history. In the last twenty years, our family has grown from 600 pupils in a single school to over 4,400 pupils in nine schools around the world. With a new executive team in place (the Headmaster from April 2019, the COO from April 2021, and the Prep School Heads from September 2020 and 2022 respectively), the senior leadership team are now setting a course for the next decade, driven by our central, pupil - driven purpose to ‘Transform their World’. We are looking to appoint to the role of Estates Director, who will be responsible for the leadership and management of our estates.

The Estates Director will take a pivotal role in planning and guiding infrastructure development and services for the family of schools. The successful candidate will be an individual of proven leadership ability, a strategic thinker and will possess strong networking, influencing and relationship management skills. You will have a proven track record of leading, motivating and significant experience of developing and implementing estates strategic plans at a senior level. The role is challenging and rewarding in equal measure, encompassing a range of stakeholders across multiple entities and sites
Malvern College is a leading independent co-educational day and boarding school for 660 pupils aged 13-18 years. A significant proportion of pupils join from the College’s two affiliated prep schools: The Downs Malvern and Abberley Hall, educating 400 boys and girls from 2-13. Situated on the slopes of the Malvern Hills, and in North Worcestershire, the three beautiful campuses, set in 300 acres of stunning grounds, provide a wonderful environment within which to learn and work. The Malvern brand is globally strong with sister schools in Qingdao, Chengdu, New Cairo, Switzerland and Hong Kong. In total, more than 4,400 pupils experience a transformational Malvern College education around the world. Areas of Responsibility - including but not limited to: Strategic Management:
defining appropriate service level agreements and performance monitoring. » Build strong inter-departmental relationships, across both operations and academic/pastoral teams, to enhance and facilitate the stakeholder experience. » Management of the Transport Coordinator to ensure the timely, safe and cost-effective operations of the MCFS vehicle fleet, and ‘customer service’ excellence for pupils, parents and staff. » Setting standards, processes and procedures to effectively maintain statutory compliance across MCFS. » Ensure practice and procedures meet MCFS requirements for business continuity and that robust processes are in place for disaster recovery within the remit of the role. » Prepare and manage the Estates, Security and CAPEX budgets. » Act as professional mentor to MCFS Estates staff including training, development and guidance.
» The development and implementation of the estates and facilities masterplan across MCFS, looking forward across a minimum 10-year time horizon. » To develop a long-term vision and supporting action plan to reach a goal of Net-Zero Carbon by 2050. » Participate in and contribute to the Operations Management Team of MCFS. » Manageand provide the strategic and technical lead on all aspects of the property portfolio, ensuring that MCFS complies with all legislation and the ISI’s regulations. » To keep up to date with ISI, legal and statutory developments as they pertain to estates and facilities management and building projects. » Proactive engagement and management of professional contractor services » Act as a consultant to the Malvern College International franchise partners, for both existing and new build international schools. » Assisting with any MCFS mergers and acquisitions and associated due-diligence. » Estates Management » Best practice management of the Estate and Facilities functions including supplier and financial performance, project delivery and customer satisfaction through monthly and annual KPI reports. » Completion of annual maintenance inspections and condition surveys for each UK school.

Areas of Responsibility Health & Safety and Security:
» Develop and implement proactive security policies and procedures. Building Projects: » Prepare business cases and feasibility studies for SMT approval. » Tender, award and manage major project contracts to deliver the estates masterplans. » Manage and monitor procurement to ensure the best value for money (quality and cost). » Act as client representative , alongside the Project Manager, on major capital estates projects, delivering to time, budget and required standards. Safeguarding Responsibilities » To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons with whom you come into contact. » To report any safeguarding concerns, including low level concerns, to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or their Deputy in a timely manner. This post involves minimal contact with children and the post holder will not be responsible for children. The post holder will be considered to be in regulated activity.
» Lead and develop MCFS Health & Safety culture, acting as senior responsible person, therein directing and measuring the Health & Safety performance and direction of the MCFS. » Ensure that buildings are safe and secure at all times and adhere to both Health & Safety requirements and ISI guidelines (ISSRs) for the health and well-being of staff, pupils and visitors. » Develop, communicate, and implement Health & Safety and premises Policies and Standards in line with current statutory and regulatory requirements. » Ensure that in all activities undertaken, MCFS properly discharges its duties under its Health and Safety Policy, the Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations and any other relevant statute, regulation or directive. Similarly, to ensure that contractors operate safely in accordance with these same statutes, regulations and directives. » Ensure that all health and safety management systems, processes and practices are consistent across all of the UK schools and are synchronized and co-ordinated. » Co-ordinate and ensure implementation of MCFS’ responsibilities in relation to maintaining health and safety statutory documentation
