Message from the President by Mike Burton, President, Board of Governors

Goodbye July!

so great, spending time with family and friends during our summer heatwaves. It is always fun to see what you are all up to whether it be at the pools, courts, workout facilities, golf course or fine dining. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new members and the fantastic job that Tonya does each and every month throughout the year. A special thanks to Eryn for holding down things during our very crazy year and working with the members on special events and day to day activities. Although it has been mentioned before, we are on track to have a special year financially during some very difficult times. None of this could be accomplished without Tasha, a wonderful staff and a great Board of Governors, who I am very proud to be associated with. Thank you for all that you do. Our club has everything you need at one location! So continue to live the life you want at Seven Oaks Country Club. Our refreshed driving range, clubhouse, upgraded banquet room, improved golf course and beautiful Oak Room are something we should all be very proud of. The Board will go dark in August and so will I, so for now, thank you again for your support and GO USA!

Well, our summer is in full swing at Seven Oaks Country Club. I have to be honest with you all, the heat has not stopped our positive outlook at the best country club in Kern County. The 4th of July celebration received wonderful feedback and our children’s Summer Camp flourished. The West Nine golf improvements are on- going and our Golf Superintendent reports that we are on schedule and under budget. I see cement on our two new Pickle Ball courts and the resurfacing of two of our tennis courts is completed. Fitness classes continue to grow and work is underway to improve the overall operations. Friday night live is still a big hit and was attended by over 80 members and guests over the last week. We were joined by the Ask Andy Band and Carl “CJ” Fenton who was a college baseball roommate of mine from a long time ago. They were a huge success and will be joining us again on August 13th. If you have not tried Basque night recently on Sunday’s, please come join us. Our members and their guests are raving about the food and experience. Please make it a regular stop on your dining rotation. Pasta night on Wednesday’s also continues to fill up thanks to Chef Corey and his team!

I hope that you all have big plans for the rest of your summer and it includes SOCC. This time of the year is

Seven Oaks Book Club

The Seven Oaks Book Club meetseach month to discuss books on a reading listwhich is selected by mutual consent of the Book Club members. All members of SOCC are invited to attend.

Our selection for August is…

The Elephant Whisperer by Lawrence Anthony

Lawrence Anthony devoted his life to animal conservation, protecting the world's endangeredspecies. Then he was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand. His common sense told him to refuse, but he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them.

In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom. Our next meeting is August 26 th at 5pm at the Club Please email Bee Barmann at [email protected] to receive information on joining the meeting.

From the Golf Shop

by Joe Haggerty, PGA Director of Golf

Make a Difference on the Golf Course: How to Pick Up Your Pace of Play

1. Ready Golf- There is no need to debate particularly when you are in the fairway who is the furthest out. The first person who is rea- dy should hit. This goes for the tee box as well. 2. If you aren’t hitting, get ready to play. Know where and how far you want to hit the ball when it’s your time to swing.

3. Don’t wait in the cart for your partner. Drop him or her off at their ball and proceed to go to your ball and get ready to hit your shot.

4. When you think you lost your ball OB, hit a provisional if there is any doubt.

5. Don’t spend time marking your ball on your putt on the putting green if you don't need to.

CONGRATS to Kent "Jumpy" Richardson on being the Oregon Golf Association's Super Senior Champion for 2021!

Kent battled the windy weather at Lincoln City's Salishan Golf Links to win the championship by one shot. Of course he is no stranger to the title. Kent took the OGA's Senior Championship at Seaside Golf Course in 2016... Way to go, Jumpy!

Adult Tennis

Women's Tennis Drills Wednesdays 9 – 10:30am.

This is the best way to get in to tennis. If you don’t have a racquet or you feel your racquet is outdated, don’t worry, we have plenty of Demo racquets you can try out. Live Ball Mondays & Wednesdays 6:30pm - 8pm This program is a fast moving, very intensive hitting and drilling course. Must have a USTA rating 3.5 and above. Call Jason at 661-717-4217.

Check Us Out! Our on-going improvements to the Swim & Tennis Pavilion are really starting to take shape. While the picture below shows the work in progress, the re- surfacing of tennis courts 1 & 2 went very well and players are loving it! The concrete for our 2 new pickleball courts still has about a week or two to cure and we can hardly wait to get the surface paint down and start playing. We also added additional pedestrian paths around the area to complete the look of the courts and make it easier for members to access the facility from the parking lot.
