2018 ELECTION RESULTS DIRECTOR’S ELECTION

CANDIDATE

NO. VOTES

Hard to believe that we have reached the end of another season. As many of you read this you are likely packing and getting ready to leave, already left or have reached your summertime destination. Of course,

there are the brave few that stay with us all summer and deal with the heat! We have seen some changes in the management personnel this year. As many know Gary Marshall is retiring after 13 years of service. We have selected a new Activities Director, Meredith Pate who has spent time training with Gary at the end of this season and will be ready to hit the ground running in October. Please get to know Meredith a bit better by reading her bio elsewhere in the Oracle. Also, many have heard that Norbert Garcia is no longer with ORPS. We are currently working on filling this position and it will be announced to the membership once filled. We wish Gary and Norbert the best in their future endeavors. In other administrative news, just a reminder that Board meetings and some committee meetings will continue over the summer and agendas will be posted as the meetings draw closer. These agendas will have the teleconference instructions on them for those of you that would like to call in and listen to the meetings. In terms of physical projects, the largest ones will be the renovation of the El Saguaro pool area, creating 6 new pickleball courts at ES and adding new sun shades between the racket courts at both El Saguaro and La Palma. In addition to these improvements at the racket courts, the tennis courts will be getting new lights while both the fences at La Palma and El Saguaro will be modified to make it easier to watch matches from the breezeway. Along with these larger items, there will be many, many other smaller projects to make sure the resort is looking tip top for next season’s opening day. If you are not on the email list and would like to receive the Out and About emails, please email your information to Jennifer Miranda at [email protected]. Also, in May we will be mailing out our annual disclosure packets that include the new budget and reserve study summary for the 2018-2019 fiscal year, along with some additional Association information. I would like to close by thanking all the residents, volunteers, committee members and board members for making it another great season here at Outdoor Resort, with a special thank you to the Oracle staff who continue to provide this great source of information each month. Safe travels to you all and we look forward to seeing you upon your return!

Message from the Board

First, we say good-bye to Brian Canfield and Maryellen Muir as their term of office on the Board has come to an end. We want to thank them for all of their contributions to the Board and the community. We in turn welcome J OHN B OUDIN and G REG F ARMER to the Board as well as T ED W ILSON to another term. The officers for next season are: President C RAIG W IRCH , Vice-President T ED W ILSON , CFO J IM W ALLER Secretary D EDE L OOP . We also want to thank our Owners that voted by a large margin to purchase the piece of property across from the main laundry. This will save money in the long run by not having to hold another vote or going to court. Financially the Resort is in good shape. The financials show the income is more than budgeted and expenses are less than budgeted. The projects to be completed over the summer have been ap- proved. Our Resort is run by volunteers; for committees, for events as well as your Board. All can attend committee meetings. Check them out and find what would be a good fit for your interests and abilities to contribute, then volunteer. There will be three Board teleconference meetings over the summer which you can access. P please do so to keep abreast of what we are doing. As you leave for your summer homes, travel safe so we can all meet again in the fall. D EDE L OOP , Board Secretary

SAFETY AND SECURITY It is interesting to see that many of our neighbors have taken action to improve security. Motion detector lights have been installed on the ladders on the rear of RV’s. Others have installed lights on trees at the rear of the lots. Some are solar powered, others are connected by extension cords that plug into the outlets on the electrical meter pedestal. Costco sells a high quality $40 solar light that is very bright. The convenience store has re-ordered U-locks, and also has bike alarms for sale. Many owners have purchased bike racks, and then use both cables and D-Locks to double lock the bikes to the bike rack. We are disappointed that some theft victims may not be filing reports with both ORPS Security and Cathedral City police. Friends often tell me the problem of speeding cars and vendors, but also speeding bikes and golf carts. Last week I saw a grandmother allowing a little girl to drive the cart and speed through two stop signs. Somehow we forget that golf carts are subject to the same driving laws as cars. It is very common to see golf carts cutting corners at intersections and ending up in the wrong lane. There is also good news. We are wrapping up another resort season with no serious injuries and no major crime. Have a happy and safe summer! C HARLIE L EAHY , Vice Chair

As the season is coming to an end I would like to wish everyone safe travels in transit to your destinations. I assure you that during the Off Season the efforts of my staff will not decrease and we will continue to look after your property with the intent that your lots and possessions are exactly as you left them upon your return. ADOPT A NEW OWNER The Communication Committee continues to focus on building relationships throughout the resort. Our main focus this year was “how to better communicate with new owners.” We feel we have made great strides in this area and we continue to seek ways to make their transition into Outdoor Resort smooth. This year we hosted Lunch and Learn Sessions for New Owners. The Lunch and Learn sessions were so popular that we opened them up to all interested owners and next season sessions are already planned. If you are a new owner from this past season 2017, please consider joining our Adopt a New Owner Program. We think that if each new owner in 2018 has a designated person to go to for information, their transition would be easier. Contact: [email protected] if you are interested in learning more about this program.
