As the holiday season draws near, we’re sure many of our readers are setting aside time to spend with their families. No matter what your traditions are, being thankful for loved ones, sharing meals, and giving gifts make the season magical. From our whole team at Ortho Technology, we hope you and yours have a safe and wonderful winter. As a small business, we are big believers in the power of giving year- round. It’s a chance for us to come together outside of the office and make a positive difference in our community. Just last month, we had the privilege of taking part in the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. October was, after all, Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime, creating

a widespread need for research, treatment, and support services. The ACS and the local nonprofits they partner with, like BayCare here in Tampa, work to provide families with these desperately needed resources. The ACS currently funds over $59 million in research, runs campaigns to raise awareness, and facilitates survivor support networks. “As a company, we believe in doing well by doing good. It’s not enough to simply come into work every day. In our eyes, being successful means sharing our good fortune and finding opportunities to give back.”

to friends and family and posted on social media. We hosted a “Pledge and Pastry” event with homemade baked goods from TSMs, raffles, and pink items for donations! We even gave our customers a chance to help us raise awareness, offering special deals on many of our pink accessories, and a portion of the proceeds from these items will be donated to Henry Schein Cares. To kick off PINKTOBER, on Saturday, Oct. 13, we joined a sea of our fellow pink-clad Floridians in Wesley Chapel for the main event. At 9 a.m., Team OT Partners in Pink made a 3-mile stride against cancer. Each of us had our own reason for walking, but we shared a determination to help save lives from this all-too-common illness. The road to a world free of breast cancer is a long one, but every step takes us closer to getting there. We’re proud to play a role in this great event every year and hope to have an even larger turnout in 2019! As a company, we believe in doing well by doing good. It’s not enough to simply come into work every day. In our eyes, being successful means sharing our good fortune and finding opportunities to give back. These sorts of charities are just another way we find value in every smile.

EXPERIENCE VS. PO

What Matters More in New Hires?

Scaling a business is one of the most complicated challenges for entrepreneurs. Developing a model that allows for consistent growth while maintaining profit margins and effective systems is a substantial task for business owners. But once the proper blueprint is in place, a new test presents itself, and how well you perform will undoubtedly define the future success of your company.

Hiring plays a significant role along a company’s path to success. It’s not a landmark or a checkpoint on the map; it’s the vehicle that takes you to your destination. Your business is only as good as the people who propel it forward. You need individuals who fit into your culture, possess the necessary skills to be effective, and have a desire to continue learning best practices if you’re ever going to achieve your goals. Some qualities are universally known to be linked to good hiring practices,

but there’s still one important question that divides the masses: Do I hire for experience or potential? EXPERIENCE A degree- or trade-specific education can certainly lay a foundation for an employee to be successful, but experience provides specialized training that cannot be found anywhere else. An employee who has a working knowledge of their craft can provide a sense of security when hiring. With new employees playing

elastic characteristics after reaching their transition temperature of 90 degrees F. The consistent, gentle forces these wires provide make it easier to move to larger wire sizes sooner without sacrificing patient comfort. Available in full, Euro, and universal forms. TruFlex™ Copper Nickel Titanium The inclusion of copper gives these wires a lighter tactile feel and increased flexibility at room temperatures, making them ideal when crowding conditions may have otherwise made placement difficult. The alloy also makes wires more resistant to deformation, and they are avalible in two transition temperatures: 27 C or 35 C. TRIFECTA ® Thermal Nickel Titanium While other archwires generate a single force level, TRIFECTA wires are segmented by heat sensitivity, providing “the right force on the

right teeth at the right time.” With gentle forces on the anterior region, moderate forces on the bicuspids, and heavy force on those difficult- to-move molars, a single TRIFECTA wire can do the job of three regular archwires. BetaForce™ Beta Titanium Ideal for patients with nickel sensitivity, these beta titanium wires offer a middle ground between the bendability of steel archwires and the flexibility of nickel titanium. The excellent formability offered by these wires make them ideal for intermediate and finishing stages of treatment. TruForce™ Stainless Steel Manufactured with medical-grade 304VSS stainless steel, these high-quality archwires are ideal for malocclusions requiring intricate bends. The high tensile strength ensures consistent performance.

TruFlex™ Nickel Titanium With excellent rebound and memory properties, these NiTi offer consistent force levels for comfort and accuracy. Available in a wide range of forms, from full form, Euro form, universal form, reverse curve of spee, and straight leg reverse curve of spee, all TruFlex™ NiTi wires retain their super elastic properties. TAKE A BREAK

ENTIAL such a pivotal role in growth, many employers want to limit uncertainty and ensure they aren’t gambling with their company’s future. But experience doesn’t equate to competency, which is why some employers elect to hire for potential. POTENTIAL The argument for hiring based on potential centers around two concepts. One is that by hiring someone with a bright future and helping them achieve their goals, you could gain the loyalty of that person and thus retain that employee for a longer time. This comes with the caveat that those who have potential also look for potential, so as an employer, it’s important to provide opportunities for advancement. The other argument is that potential combined with training can equate to a more effective employee in the long run. In truth, the disagreement that transpires is a moot point. You can hire someone with experience or an individual with potential and strike out just the same. All successful employees will have one important trait: passion. You can’t teach passion, but you can hire for it. THANK YOU!

A Seasonal Message From the Ortho Tech Team

With Thanksgiving almost upon us, our team here at Ortho Technology would like to take a moment to thank our readers. Many of you have been long- time customers, and your support over the years means the world to us. Every day, we strive to innovate and improve the Ortho Tech experience to ensure we keep earning that valued trust. So as our nation prepares to celebrate all the things we have to be grateful for, we would be remiss if we didn’t extend a heartfelt thank you to the orthodontists and assistants we serve every day. We know supplying your clinic is about more than just brackets and archwires. It’s about helping you give your patients the best possible experience — literally bringing smiles to their faces. An unsatisfactory product or missed shipment affects your reputation and your clinic’s, which is why we hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality and customer service. It’s also why the fact that you’ve chosen to work with us is so deeply humbling. You are placing your trust in the work we do. Rest assured that we will never take this for granted.

Best of all, many of you not only use our products, but you take the time to recommend us to your colleagues. We cannot express how thankful we are for these referrals. These referrals are the roots that have allowed our small team to grow organically over the years, and they are the best endorsement we could dream of. Any supplier could pay for advertising to say they have the best products, but heartfelt endorsements have to be earned. When a new Ortho Tech customer mentions that they were referred by you, we do our best to reach out and thank you personally. But because we simply cannot say it enough, thank you so much for taking the time and having the confidence in Ortho Tech to give us your endorsement. Because of your support, our team can keep thriving and enjoy the holidays with our own families. And that is certainly something to be grateful for. From all of us at the Ortho Technology team, have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

top of almost every fan’s list. Hogwarts is a magic castle in J.K. Rowling’s books, but in real life, its film location is a functioning cathedral in Oxford. Take one step onto the grounds of Christ Church Cathedral, and you might begin to wonder when the next Quidditch match will begin. Tikal National Park When George Lucas witnessed a poster of this famous archeological site, he didn’t see an ancient culture — he saw Yavin IV, the perfect location for the Massassi Outpost, a rebel haven found in the first film of Star Wars. Though the movie paints a futuristic look at the region, walk through Tikal National Park, and you’ll experience it as a trip through history.

The only aspect of “The Lord of the Rings” that is more compelling than the fantastical journey of Frodo is the alluring, untamed countryside and quaint towns that make up Middle Earth. The Green Dragon Inn, Bilbo’s house, and the rolling hills of New Zealand make for a backdrop that will transport you straight into the life of Middle Earth’s smallest people — only these houses aren’t small at all. And you don’t need large, hairy feet to enjoy them. Christ Church Cathedral Harry Potter captured the imagination of the world. There are multiple sites across the United Kingdom where you can get lost in the adventure that shaped a generation, but there is one spot at the

Movies captivate audiences partially because of their ability to transport you to a different place. The heart yearns to be taken places, and cinema facilitates that journey. But what if you could immerse yourself in those fantastical worlds by visiting the destinations that you’ve seen on the big screen? Here are three places that are worth the trip.
