MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR In every hour, there are 60 minutes. That means that we have 60 minutes hourly opportunities to create a positive impact. This has been manifested when the global pandemic rocked our shores. To stand firm on our grounds, DOST-FNRI Annual Seminar Series (FSS) virtually facilitated the event for two consecutive years. The decision and the execution of virtual series, ensured that all completed researches were continuously disseminated to various stakeholders. It likewise highlighted the Institute’s contribution to the Annual Nutrition Month celebration. For the current year, the FSS will be held through mixed platforms which are online and face-to- face activities. It is my honor to share with you the Book of Abstracts and Souvenir Program of the 48th FNRI Seminar Series with the theme “Inobasyon at Solusyon sa Panibagong Hamon sa Nutrisyon”. The Book has 28 abstracts of the 2021 DOST-FNRI completed researches as well as two abstracts from the Institute’s graduate students. This year’s seminar will showcase new innovations in the new normal like DOST-FNRI’s MeaLusog instant healthy meals and the coconut-based complementary foods; newly developed food grading tools, the Filipino Healthy Eating Index, in-depth studies, nutrigenomics studies, among others. A good length of the book is the Souvenir Program where various services of the Institute such as DOST-FNRI services include: Proficiency Testing Laboratory, Service Laboratory, iFNRI, iTrain, Transferrable and Commercializable DOST-FNRI technologies, One-Stop-Shop, IEC Package, Public Use Files (PUF), 2022 Online Public Course Offerings. My commendations to the DOST-FNRI researchers for leading on innovative technologies and developments in the area of food and nutrition that will help policy makers, nutrition implementers, nutritionists, dietitians, nutrition workers, food technologists, public health practitioners, members of the academe and research organizations, nutrition allies in the medical fields, and media practitioners in responding to challenges brought by the pandemic in addition to achieving inclusions and improvements in our lives – The Filipino lives.
