2016 Northern Virginia Retired Men’s Golf Association (NVRMGA) If you are 55 or older, you can become a member of the NVRMGA! ANCC will field two separate teams, one at Arlington and one at Fairfax. Both teams are always looking for new players. The 2016 ANCC teams will be put together within the next few months, so there is still plenty of time for to sign up. For more information, contact Barbara Drake, [email protected] . In 2016, league play will be scheduled on Tuesdays at Arlington and Fridays at Fairfax. In April, May, September and October tee times for play days will be from 8:30 - 10:30 AM. In June, July, and August tee times will be from 8:00 - 10:00 AM. Play Day Information: Initially, sign-up sheets are available at the Spring Luncheon. Thereafter, tee time sign-up sheets will be available in the Pro Shops. Play is in foursomes. For general information about WGO-18, please click here . 2016 Men’s ‘B’ Team & Qualifying The ANCC Men’s “B” Team competition begins late April and is a great way to meet other ANCC members. The ‘B’ Team is open to all men with course handicaps ranging from 5 to 16. Matches are held on Saturdays and/or Sundays from late April thru July with playoffs going from August thru October. WMGA Senior Men’s ‘A’ Team The 2016 Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Senior ‘A’ Team competition matches will begin in April and continue into the first part of May as needed. Any guest playing in a member - guest tournament that do not have a verifiable USGA handicap is subject to playing from scratch.

NEW Group Exercise Options

Look for two new group exercise classes in February — Barre Express and Pilates Fundamentals! Barre Express is a 45-minute class on Mondays at 9:45 AM that combines barre with yoga and Pilates to sculpt lean, beautiful muscles. Instructed by Arnie Reilly . Pilates Fundamentals is a great starting point for people with no Pilates background. Join instructor Jean Morrison on Wednesdays at 4:00 PM.

Members wishing to access the building before 7:00 AM on weekdays and 8:30 AM on weekends, or after 8:00 PM on weekdays and 5:30 PM on weekends, will need a personal identification number to unlock the door. The application for a PIN can be found on the club’s website under “Club Documents & Forms” or by clicking here .

GROUP EXERCISE POLICY REMINDERS

Inclement Weather: In the event that Arlington County schools are closed due to inclement weather, morning group fitness classes will be canceled. Evening class cancellations will be posted on the website. Sign-up for the opt-in email list if you would like individual notification of evening cancellations. Ongoing Subscriptions: Once you sign up for an ongoing subscription, we will continue to bill you until you remove yourself from the list. We cannot refund subscriptions after, and we cannot accept cancellations once the month has started and classes are underway. Making Up Classes: You are encouraged to make-up classes that you miss, but please do so in a timely manner. All make-up classes must be used by the 15th of following month.

Save the Date for an Ergonomic Seminar 1:00 PM Bryan Williams, Doctor of Physical Therapy and certified ergonomic specialist, will lead a 45 minute ergonomic seminar and Q&A. The seminar will focus on the proper office/desk ergonomic set ups and positions for the body. It will also go over the most commonly found postures leading to a myriad of musculoskeletal issues ranging from headaches to knee pain. Up to date scientific studies will be used to support the use of standing desks. Additionally, general exercises and stretches will be recommended. Sunday, 6 March

Did you know? Army Major Richard Newman, who built the Fort Riley, Kansas golf course for $700, was instrumental in the development of ANCC Arlington golf facilities. When ANCC leadership requested that he be assigned to oversee the construction of the ANCC course, General Summerall, The Army Chief of Staff, obliged by ordering him to Fort Meyer where the ANCC project was his only duty. Newman’s exceptional resourcefulness and leadership during the next two years resulted in nines being opened in September 1928 and June 1929; the openings were critical to ANCC’s financial viability since dues would not to be charged until golf was available.
