01 Get inspired Whether on Pinterest, sneaky screen-shots or pages ripped from magazines, start hoarding your favourite looks . Everything from floral arrangements to hairstyles and make-up, inspiring venues and more. Once you’ve nailed down your look and feel, the planning process will become much easier.

02 Start the guest list Planning your guest list really has to go hand-in-hand with budgeting. Make sure you and your other half are on the same page, because one person’s ‘close family’ is another person’s entire family tree, twigs and all. The number of guests has a knock-on effect when it comes to venue, food, wine - right down to the size of the cake. Get a spreadsheet going and make your decisions early, and as diplomatically as possible. 03 Budget planning A lot of couples put off number-crunching but, sadly, it’s a critical part of the planning process. Iron out those painful details before you go any further! Create a budget and allocate vendors accordingly so that you can agree on where and how to spend your money before those deposits start flying out the door. A great app for this is Wedding Happy , but an Excel spreadsheet works just as well. 04 Pick your wedding party As soon as you announce you’re engaged and start thinking about the big day, you’ll need to figure out who’s going to be included in your wedding party. For example, Maid of Honour, bridesmaids, Best Man, groomsmen, flower girls and page boys. While it’s nice to make everyone else happy, it’s really important to choose the people who mean the most to you and whose presence will make your big day all the more special. 05 Decide on the what and the when The venue really sets the tone for your day, so make finding the perfect location a priority. They can also book out months and sometimes years in advance, which is why it’s a good idea to begin hunting early - just as soon as you’ve established that all-important budget. Of course there’s no better place to start than Find My Perfect Venue (if we do say so ourselves!).
