YOU’RE NO. 2 ON MY THANKFUL LIST ... (My Wife and Kids Come First, of Course!)

Thanksgiving is almost here, and as part of our big holiday lunch, my family goes around the table to talk about the year behind us. Here are a few topics we always cover: What went well? What didn’t? Who made an impact on us? And, of course, what are we thankful for? When I reflected on those things today, I realized that apart from my 2-year-old daughter, 5-year-old-son, and wife of 13 years, the people I’m most thankful for are my clients at Landmark Tax Group. If you’ve worked with us and you’re reading this, I mean you! I’m incredibly grateful for the trust you place in me and my team. When people come to Landmark Tax Group for help with their back taxes, they’re often in challenging situations. They’re stressed out and feel like they have the world on their shoulders. Often, our clients have worked with traditional tax relief companies in the past, only to get burned. They want answers and relief, and they don’t always get it from those “experts.” As you might imagine, that history makes trusting us even more difficult when they finally find their way to our door. It’s a vulnerable time, and it takes a lot of courage to let someone else in to share the pressure and battle the IRS. However, I’m glad that they do.

It might sound cheesy, but I really believe it’s my mission in life to show people what real IRS tax help entails and how affordable it can be. At our office, we help hundreds of clients without charging them a penny up front (read more about our payment options and complimentary resources on Page 2) and achieve life-changing results for them and their families. That’s truly something to be thankful for, and I’ll definitely bring it up at our Thanksgiving table. Speaking of the holiday, my family’s celebration will look a little bit different this year because it will be our first Thanksgiving in Florida. We’ll gather with our in-state family for lunch (a midday meal is a tradition for us), then take a walk around the neighborhood. I love our tradition of getting fresh air and exercise while walking off the turkey. Thanksgiving lunch is reserved for talking about the past, but on that walk, we’ll discuss the year ahead. What do we expect in the coming months? What do we hope for? This year, I have a lot of big plans and goals to share for Landmark

Have a Low-Stress Holiday 3 Tips for a Merrier Time

The holidays are right around the corner, and while many people can’t wait to eat turkey and swap presents, others only see stress on the horizon. Especially for those hosting parties, between decorations, big dinners, excited kids, and visiting family, it can all feel overwhelming. If celebrations are happening at your house this year, here are three tips to lessen the strain and keep up the holiday cheer. Recharge First Ensure you’re rested and recharged before the holidays by taking time to relax, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that make you feel good. When you’re rushing to get everything done, it can be tempting to skip self-care routines, but that will cost you in the long run. Your daily exercise and other health activities keep you balanced and ready to face challenges head-on. Get Started Early Holidays always arrive faster than we expect, so begin preparing early. If shopping for presents is a pain point,

don’t wait until the last minute. Decorate earlier than you need to — or better yet, get the kids to do it for you. There’s only so much cooking you can do ahead of time, but ensuring you have all of the equipment and nonperishable ingredients you need a few weeks in advance will reduce both your workload and anxiety.

Don’t Expect Perfection The sooner you let go of the idea of a “perfect” holiday, the sooner you’ll be able to have a happy one.

Face it: Something will go wrong. Whether it’s an overcooked dish, a child throwing a temper tantrum, or your uncle talking politics at the dinner table, nothing will ever go just how you planned. So, embrace the imperfections. Whether you’re celebrating this year with a group of two or 20, holidays can be a stressful time — but they don’t have to be. With these tips, your festivities may not be picture-perfect, but they will be a lot of fun.

IS YOUR STATE’S TAX AGENCY AFTER YOU? Attorney James Sutton Can Resolve Your Sales Tax Problem

Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and here at Landmark, we’re feeling particularly thankful for the other businesses that support our work. Our clients have a variety of needs that sometimes go beyond our expertise working with the IRS. Fortunately, we know dozens of other tax professionals we can reach out to for help! One of those trusted partners is James Sutton, a CPA and attorney at Moffa, Sutton, & Donnini, PA. James and his team specialize in state and local tax controversy with an emphasis on sales and use tax. If you are having trouble with your state, city, or county taxes, then he can work with you to resolve them. “We focus on the state and local tax side of things and don’t touch IRS work. So, while Landmark can save you from the IRS, we can save you from the state taxing agencies. We make a great team!” he says. Moffa, Sutton, & Donnini, PA has offices in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Tallahassee, Florida, and is one of the only law firms in the country focused almost exclusively on sales and use tax controversy.

says. “We also hire many people from state taxing agencies who have years of experience handling sales tax from the other side of the game before leaving the ‘dark side.’” James and his team often work directly with entrepreneurs who own small and medium-sized businesses. Helping them thrive is James’ favorite part of his job.

“These companies are usually family owned and operated with their income and life savings tied up in the company. When a state taxing agency comes in with overly

aggressive estimated assessments, we get to be the knights in shining armor fighting back,” he says.

If you need help with a sales tax audit, a protest, a petition for reconsideration, litigation, appellate

litigation, collections, revocations, or criminal defense at the state or local level, James is your man. You can contact him directly at (813) 775-2131 or [email protected], or visit FloridaSalesTax.com to browse hundreds of articles on sales tax and schedule a free consultation.

Why You Should Visit New England

During Your Thanksgiving Weekend

Last year, travel restrictions kept many families from gathering together in their homes for Thanksgiving dinner. This year, it appears that people will be able to travel freely to most locations. While a “destination Thanksgiving” might not be something you’ve ever considered, for some families, it can mean the perfect blend of quality fun and family time in an exciting new city. So, why not take advantage and bring your family to visit New England, the part of the country where Thanksgiving began? If you need more reasons than just the origin of a famous holiday, consider the scenery. If you’ve never visited New England in the fall, it’s something that every person should do at least once in their lives. The variety of colors

on display in the trees throughout the quaint downtowns and nearby forests is completely unique to that part of the country. There’s a reason that “visiting Boston in the fall” has become not only a popular vacation but also part of the American lexicon as well. As for what you could do when you’re in New England for your Thanksgiving weekend, there are a few popular destinations you just have to see for yourself. First and foremost among these are the Plimoth Patuxet Museums. When you visit, you’ll be transported back in time to one of the earliest settlements in the United States, where the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people shared the first Thanksgiving dinner.

Other fun destinations in that immediate area also include wandering the quaint historic downtowns of Ipswich, Sturbridge, or several other colonial era towns. You can also find tons of fun shopping destinations in Beverly, Massachusetts. If you want your experience to be a little more rural, you can travel out to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, or Woodstock, Vermont, to experience a true traditional Thanksgiving celebration at Billings Farm and Museum. Even though your family might not be used to traveling for Thanksgiving, how many opportunities will you have to visit Thanksgiving’s birthplace during the season? It’s the kind of vacation you don’t want to miss!
