RESOURCES TO MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER Y ou, and many other people, may struggle to find the “right” attorney because it can be an intimidating process. You probably have a lot of questions going Finding the Right Attorney and More

easy to hire an outside company to write up a bunch of reviews and post to Facebook, Google, or Yelp. A lot of people with questionable business ethics are more than happy to do this. But it only works to confuse people who are just trying to find a good lawyer, like you. This is one of the many reasons I maintain a video library on my website. If you visit MR DUI LA.com , you’ll find a link to “Video University” right at the top of the page. This connects you with a variety of topics, including how to find a lawyer. More than anything, these videos are designed to be educational. You have questions, and I have answers, at least when it comes to DUI and criminal law. These videos give you an idea of the type of issue I deal with every day. Circling back to reviews, I also have a number of video testimonials from clients. You can see these at MR DUI LA.com/client- testimonials . These are far more trustworthy and informative than your typical online reviews. They tell a story, and you get to hear from verified clients. If you watch these testimonials, you may realize that their situation is the same or similar to yours. When you see how we help that client, you get a general idea of how we

might be able to help with your case — all before you make that first call.

So, not only are these videos informative, but they also take away that intimidation factor that comes with hiring an attorney. I’m here to put your mind at ease, because I’m here to help in any way I can, even if I don’t take on your case. Because I have several videos covering a wide range of legal topics, my website is visited by people from all over the country. However, given that I operate out of Beverly Hills and am licensed in the state of California and specialize in DUI and criminal defense, I can’t represent everyone who calls. But I will point them in the right direction. So, if you call with a question regarding an area of the law I don’t specialize in, such as personal injury, I can put you in touch with an attorney who can help. I don’t want to leave anyone hanging because when they call, I know they took the time to look me up and they have a problem that needs to be solved. I might not be the person to solve it, but they absolutely

These days, you might turn to a friend or a colleague and see if they know a good lawyer. But if you don’t get any recommendations, you’ll be going online to find one. Though, as you will likely see on the first page of your search, looking for an attorney online gets overwhelming fast. There are so many results and advertisements, so narrowing it down can take time. As you’re searching, it’s important to read reviews and get a feel for what others have experienced. It’s also important to read the negative reviews as much as the positive ones. But even online reviews aren’t a sure thing. Unfortunately, online reviews can be misleading or even falsified.

3 MEMORABLE

THANKSGIVING DAY FOOTBALL PLAYS

Thanksgiving is all about good food, family, and football. Each year, football fans look forward to sitting down and watching the game with their family, regardless of whether or not their team is playing. While many games have been played over the years, some stand out more than others because of some major players and their quick actions. Here are three individuals who made their Thanksgiving Day games ones to remember. LAWRENCE TAYLOR New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was said to have “single-handedly” beat the Detroit Lions in this memorable 1982 Thanksgiving Day matchup. The game was only the fourth of the season for Taylor, who had just recovered from a sprained knee injury suffered in a previous game. With the score tied at 6-6 in the fourth quarter, Taylor intercepted the ball from the Lions quarterback, Gary Danielson, and ran it 97 yards for a touchdown. LEON LETT The Miami Dolphins were up against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day in 1993. This game was marked by its strange

weather: Snow covered the field in Dallas, and temperatures reached only 26 degrees F. But that wasn’t what made the game memorable. In the last 15 seconds of the game, the Cowboys blocked the Dolphins’ last 40-yard field goal attempt. As the ball was rolling on the ground, Cowboys defensive tackle Leon Lett dove for it but slipped and missed. The Dolphins recovered the ball and were given the chance to kick another field goal at the 1-yard line. The attempt was successful, and they won the game. PHIL LUCKETT One of the most memorable moments during a Thanksgiving game took place in 1998, when the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions entered overtime in a 16-16 tie. Referee Phil Luckett oversaw the coin toss, and that’s when things became tense. Steelers running back Jerome Bettis appeared to call tails, but Luckett said, “Heads is the call.” Upon review later, officials discovered that Bettis changed his mind mid-toss and had indeed called heads first. The Lions got first possession and scored a field goal to win the game.

Every Drink Matters!

Another thing to consider is that many people who drink during Thanksgiving or the December holidays don’t drink very often. As “holiday drinkers,” they are more likely to underestimate their level of impairment and end up driving when they shouldn’t. Of course, anyone who drinks should never drive. You should always allow enough time after drinking to make sure you’re completely sober before getting behind the wheel. One rule of thumb is to wait 45 minutes to an hour per drink.

more people consume alcohol than at any other time of the year. As a result, the last few weeks of the year can be the most dangerous on the road, because alcohol-related accidents and fatalities reach their peak.

• If you don’t want a drink, just say no. Don’t feel like you have to give in to peer pressure. • Have nonalcoholic drinks available for guests and keep a glass of water or another nonalcoholic drink within arm’s reach. • Always designate a driver. • Keep a taxi or ride-share service such as Uber or Lyft on standby. • Drink responsibly and decide how many drinks you’ll have in advance. • Don’t let drinking become the main focus. Remember that the holidays and social events are about having fun with family and friends.

The increase in social drinking is one of the biggest reasons more people get into alcohol- related accidents during this time. More people

THE DUI MAZE

What Happens if You Get Multiple DUIs?

I t's important to know that should individuals be second DUI comes with a minimum jail time of is 96 hours — but it can escalate to a maximum of one year, depending on the circumstances. If someone is convicted of a third DUI, the mandatory minimum jail time is 120 days. If somebody gets a fourth DUI, that is typically filed as a felony and the person will be looking at state prison time rather than county jail. With multiple offenses, there is also a license suspension. This is longer than if it was a first-time offense. If somebody gets a typical second DUI, they may lose the license with a hard suspension for 90 days, which can go up to a year depending on the circumstances. If somebody is on probation and gets a second DUI, there is a hard suspension of one year. There isn’t even an ignition interlock option. charged with an increasing number of DUI, the potential punishments escalate in severity. For instance, a first-time DUI does not include mandatory jail time. However, a second-time DUI does. Additionally, the

On a third offense, the hard suspension lasts six months. These time periods constantly change depending on different laws and different programs that may be put into effect. Of

closer together that the convictions are, the more likely a prosecutor and a judge are going to be looking for significant jail time. If someone got a second DUI, the maximum would be one year if they were on probation for the first when they received the second. Their exposure or amount of time that they would be looking at would be one year on the second plus the probation violation up to six months on a first-time DUI. If they were on probation for a second and got a third, their exposure will be two years, and a judge could sentence somebody to that time. This can be confusing, but this is something people must deal with when they face multiple DUIs.

Is ‘Glamping’ the Perfect Winter Getaway?

Cabin Fever has Never Been so Stylish IS ‘GLAMPING’ THE PERFECT WINTER GETAWAY? Never face a legal problem alone. Anytime legal help is needed, please call my office right away. My office will make sure you get the right attorney and the help you need.

When COVID-19 struck the U.S., travel restrictions had people canceling their vacation plans left and right. This meant that many would-be vacationers had to find some getaways a little closer to home — namely, camping trips and their fancier cousin, glamping trips. If you haven’t heard of “glamping” before, it’s essentially glamorous camping. You have access to the beautiful, rugged outdoors as well as all the comforts of home. While traditional winter camping certainly wouldn’t be a relaxing getaway for most people, glamping during the winter months can give you access to the peace of the outdoors like you’ve never experienced before without so much as a shiver or sniffle. If you’ve decided to make glamping your go- to method of escape from the cabin fever that besets us all during the cold, dark winter days, you might be thinking: How can I make sure I

have the best glamping experience possible? Luckily, there are a few tips and tricks you can apply to any glamping location to ensure that your time away from home is just as relaxing as that Caribbean cruise would have been. Step 1: Decide which kind of lodging you want. Glamping shelters come in all shapes and sizes depending on the level of comfort you desire on your trip. The most rugged glamping lodgings usually still include a wood-burning stove and a nice comfy bed, whether you opt for a log cabin or a specialized glamping tent (sometimes called a yurt). However, some of the more posh options include amenities like fresh linens, private bathrooms and showers, fully stocked kitchenettes, and even TVs. Step 2: Decide how you want to spend your time. Obviously, the point of glamping is to

spend time in the great outdoors with winter activities, such as snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and other fun snow activities. However, glamping really shines during the frigid evenings. You can retreat indoors, throw some logs in the stove, prepare some hot cocoa or cider, and just watch the snowfall from your window. There’s no right or wrong way to glamp. All that matters is spending time in the wilderness with all the comforts of home — all while feeling refreshed and at peace.
