This is a topic I have written about before, but since April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and my youngest daughter is on the cusp of getting her driver’s license, I’ve noticed that lately, I have some pretty strong feelings about driving distracted. Your child getting their license is one of the scariest and exciting times as a parent. You’re thrilled to see them gain some independence and reach this milestone, but the worry never really goes away. TAKE THE END DD CHALLENGE Let’s Make Our Roads Safer

I commend the work Joel and his team are doing, and as a parent myself, I struggle to comprehend his grief. But I am happy to know there are people like him who are working diligently to end this tragic reality. In honor of their work, I’d like to share a few tips to help you avoid and eliminate this habit while driving. Doing so could save the life of someone else’s daughter, friend, parent, or spouse. 1. Put it away. The simple truth is that you don’t need to answer that text message right now. If a message really is urgent, pull over where it is safe and respond once your vehicle is parked. In most cases, this is unnecessary. If you struggle with this, put your phone on airplane mode or place it in the backseat, where it will be less of a temptation. 2. Plan your mornings. We often think of distracted drivers as those who are on their phones, but distractions can come from putting on makeup, eating, changing the radio, combating kids in the backseat, or inputting >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4
