Walk-in registration is accepted at your local Community Center during reg- ular hours of operation. Registration forms are available at the Centers. The Community Services Department accepts cash, check, and credit card. Online Residents can register for most classes and activities online at: www.yucaipa.org/enroll Enter the Class ID, which can be found under each description in this activity guide. If there is no Class ID, type in the name of the class you would like to register for. Select your class(es), create an account, and check out. It’s that easy! Photo Release By participating in these programs, you are giving permission to the City of Yucaipa to photograph you or your child/children for use in future City publications and you or your child/children will not receive compensation for such use.

NEWS County Line Road Transportation Corridor Project

The City of Yucaipa’s adopted General Plan has identified County Line Road as a major secondary highway arterial. The roadway was designed to not only support residential, commercial, and industrial development but also serves as a connector to a major freeway system. The roadway services the City of Yucaipa and Calimesa, provides access to Interstate 10, Calimesa Elementary School, Wildwood Elementa- ry School as well as multiple residential communities and commercial properties. As a result, traffic along County Line Road has significantly increased over the years between the intersections of Calimesa Boulevard and Bryant Street which is heavily impacted during peak morning and evening commuting hours. In 2017, discussions were held with the City of Yucaipa and Calimesa regarding a joint effort to improve County Line Road in order to refine roadway operations and traffic flow through the corridor. As a part of these discussions, it was identified that multiple roadway and drainage improvements were needed between Calimesa Boulevard and Bryant Street. The County Line Road Transportation Corridor Project (Project) has been designed and engineered to mitigate traffic congestion, improve traffic circulation, enhance public safety, and provide opportunities for residents and visitors to bike or walk along the route. The County Line Road Transportation Corridor Project proposes to construct round- abouts at five intersections (5th Street, 3rd Street, 2nd Street, California Street, and Bryant Street). During the design and cost analysis study, it was determined that the use of roundabouts, in lieu of signalized intersections, would meet the capacity needs of County Line Road allowing for the corridor to remain as a two-lane street instead of constructing a four-lane street as previously indicated in both Cities’Gen- eral Plan. As a result of this decision, each City was able to minimize the impacts to private property owners as well as reduce the project cost by saving approximately $2.3 million. This critical infrastructure project will support future economic devel- opment along the corridor, creating long-term economic sustainability for the res- idents of Yucaipa and Calimesa. “City staff has done an excellent job of partnering with the City of Calimesa, I’m very proud of our team! This infrastructure project will not only provide economic benefits to both Cities as future development take places, but it will also enhance the quality of life for our communities,” said Mayor David Avila. The City of Yucaipa and Calimesa have collaborated on several grant applications to help fund the associated construction cost for this project. As a result of this part-

nership, the Cities have successfully acquired grant funding from Caltrans’ - Active Transportation Program (ATP) in the amount of $512,000 (Lead Agency - Yucaipa) for street improvements between California Street and 3rd Street; Air Quality Man- agement District - Mobile Source Reduction Committee (MSRC) in the amount of $380,000 (Lead Agency - Yucaipa) for street improvements between Calimesa Blvd. and 4th Street; and California Transportation Commission, Local Partnership Pro- gram (LPP) in the amount of $3,747,000 (Lead Agency - Calimesa) for the remain- ing segments of the Project. “This project is an example of what can happen when two cities work together and communicate,” said Mayor Davis. The Cities are excited to announce that a $8.2 million contract has been awarded for the County Line Road Transportation Corridor Project. It’s anticipated that the contractor will begin construction in April of 2022. Pickleball Facility

Over the years, the City of Yucaipa has been steadily working on increasing the number of parks, open spaces, amenities and recreation opportunities within the City. In 2012, City Council adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This plan provided the City with an inventory of all parks, open spaces, and recreational facil- ities available to residents and visitors. Also, the Master Plan has helped City staff identity where additional facilities are needed within the community. As a result of the 2012 Master Plan, two additional park facilities were recommended and ul- timately approved by City Council: the 13th Street Sports Complex and the Dunlap Neighborhood Park. Since 2012, the City has seen positive growth in residential and commercial devel- opment. In 2016, City Council adopted an update to the Parks and Recreation Mas- ter Plan. This updated plan resulted in the creation of additional parks, including El Dorado Ranch Park and Uptown Park. During the 2016 Master Plan update, there was no indication or demand for a pick- leball facility within the City, given the pickleball “wave”of interest had just begun. Since then, many residents have joined the “wave,” taking up the sport and playing at various locations throughout the community. In order to accommodate pickleball at existing City park facilities, City staff has delineated several tennis and basketball courts with temporary striping. As a result of this growing demand, City Council, through the Fiscal Year 2018-2019 Goals and Objectives process, approved a con- ceptual layout for a proposed pickleball facility. City staff continues to work on the plans, design and construction documents for Pickleball.

Meet Our New PIO Shane Massoud joined the City of Yucaipa in October of 2021 as the new Public Information Officer (PIO) and Grant Coordinator for the City. Prior to joining the City team, he worked for the Department of Trans- portation (Caltrans) as a Public Information Officer and Legislative Affairs Liaison as well as for former State Senator, Mike Morrell, as the Senior Field Representative. In this role, Shane supports communication between the City, media partners, stakeholder groups, local elected officials and the general public. As the PIO, Shane works with all City Departments in effort to streamline the process of conveying pertinent and accurate information to our community. In his role as Grant Coordinator, Shane works to identify eligible City projects for local, state, and federal grant funding opportunities. These grants cover a multitude of areas, including but not limited to, infrastructure and public works projects, groundwater recharge projects, trails, open space, park projects, and much more. Shane is thrilled to be part of a team that works to enhance the quality of life for the residents of Yucaipa each and every day.

Drowning Prevention Every year our paramedics respond to pediatric drownings and near-drownings. More children ages 1 to 4 die from drowning than any other cause of death except birth defects. Drowning happens in seconds and is often silent. Drowning can happen to anyone, any time there is access to water. We can stop these tragic incidents in Yucaipa with vigilance and good drowning prevention measures. – Fire Chief Malinowski Drowning Prevention Tips • Teach your children basic swimming and water safety skills. • Always supervise your children whenever around water, even if they can swim. • Build permanent fences that fully enclose your pool on all four sides. • Temporary fences can become weak or loose over time. • Install child-proof and redundant locks for all access ways to your pool. • Have self-closing and locking doors, make sure they work. • When swimming, always closely monitor your child. Catalytic Converters Catalytic Converter thefts are on the rise. What can you do to avoid becoming a victim? Always park your vehicles inside of a garage or in well-lit areas. You can also ask your lo- cal auto repair shop if they will etch your vehicles license plate number or identification number onto the converter itself. This will assist law enforcement if your stolen prop- erty is located. By doing so, there is a possibility the stolen property can be returned to you and the suspect is charged. Did you know: Vacation residence checks are a complimentary service provided to you from the Citizen on Patrol Unit. If you are planning to be away from your residence for a much-needed vacation, come down to the station and ask for a “special patrol request”. By joining this program, you will complete phases towards making your property a safer living environment for your tenants.

Phase 1: We will provide free information to prop- erty owners and managers, as well as other staff, which includes: • Introduction to the Crime Free Lease Adden- dum

Phase 2: Yucaipa Police Department staff will conduct an inspection of your property using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles. CPTED is a nationally accepted multi-disciplinary approach to deterring criminal behavior through environmental design. Staff will review findings and any areas that need improvement. The property must meet the minimum requirements of CPTED to move to Phase three. After passing the CPTED Inspection, the property will be authorized to order Crime Free Multi-Housing signs. The signs should be placed in strategic locations throughout your property. Phase 3: An annual crime prevention safety social for property residents designed to bring managers, tenants, and local law enforcement together to inform tenants about the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program. A final certificate is issued showing that the property has completed all phases of the program.

CertifiedWater Safety Instructors will teach children ages 6 months to 12 years old how to swim and the importance of water safety. Swim Lessons are offered at the 7th Street Pool, Monday – Thursday, in the morning and evening, as well as Saturday mornings. FAMILY FUN NIGHTS We’re adding evening recreational swim on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of June and July. Bring the whole family for a night of fun music, pool toys, competi- tions, and more! The pool opens at 7pm and closes at 9pm. Please contact the Yucaipa Community Center at 909-790-7460 for more information. Celebrate with a splash and have your next birthday, graduation, or family reunion at the 7th Street Pool this summer. All rentals include the entire pool facility and lifeguards. SAN GORGONIO BALLET SUMMER PROGRAM YOUTH BEGINNER WORKSHOP: AGES 7-12 Our workshop is available to children 7 - 10 yrs old who may have little to no experience in ballet. Two days per week each dancer has a schedule of three classes per day. This program provides the young beginning danc- er an opportunity to learn not only ballet movements, but classical music and dancing with rhythm and co- ordination, the history of ballet and where it is today, choreography, and develop strength and flexibility. It can progress the skill level of a student in training and continue to inspire and educate, and possibly inspire a child new to dance on a new and wonderful path.
