THE MULTIPLIER EFFECT HOW TO FEEL LESS ALONE AND BE MORE SUCCESSFUL AS AN ENTREPRENEUR

Like Napoleon Hill talks about in “Think and Grow Rich,” outside perspectives help you navigate challenges and develop new ideas. In my mastermind, I get the brain power of 19 other talented achievers to help me solve my business hurdles. It’s the multiplier effect. That continued connection is so powerful for my business. Besides loneliness, it’s easy for entrepreneurs’ egos to get in the way of making decisions. It can morph their marketing into messaging that would only attract them. Everyone is limited by their own perceptions, and the only way to overcome that is to talk to other people. In my mastermind, I get to bounce ideas off of a whole room of people who like to be sold to differently than I do. If you don’t have a mastermind group, I highly recommend that you connect with one or a similar small-business group that you can bounce ideas off of and learn from. Despite what you’ve felt in the past, you don’t have to go it alone. P.S. Right now, I have spots open in the minimastermind that I host, and I’m waiving the entry fee for those who respond now. You can give us a call at 940.220.9187 to reserve your spot. I look forward to connecting with you. – Scott

For any of you solo business owners out there, have you ever felt like you’re going it alone? You have your supportive family and friends who are always there for you, but in terms of your business and the daily challenges and joys you experience, unless you have a business partner, there isn’t anyone else who really gets it. One day during college, I remember sitting in chapel listening to the sermon. The pastor was talking about a farm and the way the pigs react when the farmer tosses some feed into the pen. “The one that squeals is the one that gets hit,” he said. I thought back to this message recently as I read an email addressing how lonely it can be to start a business. If I were a pig, I probably would have squealed, because the author’s words hit a nerve. Being an entrepreneur is a lonely lifestyle, and you feel like you’re out there on your own. Every failure, and every success, rides on your decisions. You reap the benefits and suffer from the losses. It can be overwhelming, and you need others to turn to. For me, being part of a mastermind has been my antidote to the entrepreneurial blues. Every time we meet, I get feedback and encouragement from this group of other business owners. We collaborate on solutions to each other’s challenges, from navigating QuickBooks to crafting a targeted message to an email list. No one else quite gets it, but they always do. Those face-to-face exchanges fuel me and keep me sharp; texts and phone calls don’t cut it.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SUMMER

AND HOST A GREAT COMPANY PICNIC

picnic, the theme should influence your setup, team-building exercises, activities, and food and drink.

Are you tired of watching perfect summer days pass your office by from the wrong side of the window? Instead of leaving work to enjoy the weather, bring your company outside! A company picnic is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the warm weather and foster team camaraderie through awards, team-building exercises and, of course, good food. Putting on a slam-bang company picnic is no easy feat, but if you start with these three fundamentals, you’ll be well on your way to pulling off an event the whole company will remember for years to come.

PICNIC LOCATION Large public parks can easily accommodate big groups, but if you’re in a pinch, you can also use your company campus. If you have enough in your budget, you can rent a venue nearby that works with your theme. Make sure your location has enough seating for everyone and keep track of the weather reports for that day if you’re grilling outside. PICNIC FOOD/DRINK Let’s not forget the most important part of a good company picnic — the food! First, you need to consider what type of picnic will go best with your theme. Will this picnic be a potluck, or will the food be catered? Will alcohol be allowed at the picnic? If so, will the company provide it, or will it be BYOB? When in doubt, just choose the realistic option for your budget and remember to stick with your theme. Ultimately, the purpose of your company picnic is to give your employees opportunities to bond outside the office and celebrate one another through awards and team building. Follow the above tips and your company picnic will go off without a hitch! with unlimited access to Scott and his legal team. “It was a game-changer,” Scott says. In addition, every client gets an hour a year of strategic planning with Scott and his team. “Invest in what’s important to your customers,” Scott advises. The Access plan has come in handy for countless clients, saving them thousands of dollars and giving them peace of mind. “Our client out of Miami is in the fitness world and had a fitness modeling contract come across his desk,” Scott gives as an example. “He was about to sign it when he remembered, ‘I’m an Access client; I can send this to Scott’s team.’ We reviewed it and sent it back to him, and he decided not to sign the contract. That decision saved him $20,000.” Scott’s approach focuses on protecting his clients and their business rather than fixing things. “We build something that’s going to last,” Scott sums up. PICNIC THEME The first step to organizing a company picnic is to choose a theme your employees will be excited about. From a Hawaiian luau to a country western barbecue, the possibilities are endless. To generate more hype at the office, you can hand out fun invitations that go along with the theme, like lei necklaces or custom sunglasses. At the actual

YOUR LAWYER’S ROLE IN PROTECTING YOUR BUSINESS

BUILT TO LAST

What happens when your attorney is also an experienced business coach? This spring, Scott weighed in on this question on “The Unstoppable CEO” podcast. Founder Steve Gordon hosted as Scott shared his extensive experience and insight on what makes a business successful and how to shatterproof it. Here’s some of what they discussed. EPISODE 122 OF ‘THE UNSTOPPABLE CEO’ PODCAST: ‘YOUR LAWYER AS A BUSINESS COACH’ A Ziglar Legacy-certified trainer with over 20 years of experience as an attorney, Scott Reib has spent the last two decades helping other owners shatterproof their business so they can go out and succeed. In his early days before becoming an attorney, Scott worked at a phone company, and “the company breached my contract,” Scott says. But he didn’t have the legal know-how or negotiation skills to argue it. “I didn’t want to end up with that type of deal again in a legal situation,” Scott says, “so I went to law school.”

Eventually, Scott opened his own law firm, and he worked with a business coach to create his Access plan, which comes

IS EVERYTHING YOU OWN AT RISK? WHY ASSET PROTECTION CAN’T WAIT

so hard to build, is suddenly taken from them. All their assets — business, home, investments — go to probate. The estate is starved of cash in the process, and spouses and children are left with nothing. It’s an awful outcome to witness, but there is something you can do to prevent it. Don’t wait to put asset protection in place. If you have something worth protecting, yesterday was the best time to do it, and today is the next best. I know you think it’s not going to happen to you. That’s what Bill thought, and it’s what so many others thought before they were hit with a lawsuit. If you’re a business owner, the question isn’t if , but when you’ll find yourself on either end of a lawsuit. At REIBLAW we understand this fundamental truth, and we work with clients to develop strategies for shielding their valuables from lawsuits. These protections are a combination of legal tools and financial plans designed to protect you and your hard-earned assets. While pre-planning is always best, there are some ways to protect yourself even after a lawsuit has been filed. Give us a call or send an email to get more information. We’re here to help you protect what’s yours.

Recently, I urged my client Bill* to put an asset protection plan in place. I’d been working with Bill on other legal aspects of his business and coaching him on how to take it to the next level. The next time he called me, though, it wasn’t to talk about IP or request a template; it was to tell me he’d been hit with a $20 million lawsuit.

He waited too long, and now his business is up for grabs.

PRACTICING PHONE ETIQUETTE NATIONAL CELLPHONE COURTESY MONTH

PRACTICE SELF-AWARENESS If you receive a call while in public, be aware of the volume of your phone and voice. Move yourself to a less crowded area to speak freely, especially if you know the conversation might get heated. When you take a call, it's good practice to leave some space between you and others. You don’t want to distract anyone with raised voices or gestures while you’re on your call. POLITELY EXCUSE YOURSELF If you must take a call, answer a text, or send an email, be sure to excuse yourself to the people around you and check your phone in a more private area. Simply saying, “I’m sorry, but I need to take this. I’ll be back in a few minutes,” gives everyone a sense of what’s going on while remaining respectful. By following these four tips, you’ll be prepared for the next time you’re on a date, in a business meeting, or watching a movie in a sold-out theater.

Silencing your phone during dinner, a party, or quality time with family is the polite thing to do. During National Cellphone Courtesy Month, it’s a good idea to reexamine cellphone etiquette and discover a few ways you can be more courteous to others.

KEEP IT QUIET Whenever you find yourself in a place of worship, talking with others, or enjoying an event, silencing your cellphone is the most courteous thing you can do. A phone that is frequently ringing can be distracting for you and those around you. If you’re expecting an important call you don’t want to miss, turn on vibrate mode. STOP CHECKING Don’t continuously glance at your phone during meetings, dinner dates, or any time you’re with others. This action shows your disinterest in what they’re saying and in what’s going on around you. Keeping your phone in your back pocket, in your purse, at your desk, or in your car will help you focus on what’s in front of you.
