AMERICA’S UNSPOKEN EPIDEMIC Families Need Fathers

Every year, we celebrate a special holiday toward the middle of June: Father’s Day. It’s important to me, and it’s a good opportunity to reflect on time spent with my father and on fatherhood in general. For me, being a dad was a full- time job I took seriously. I made a lot of mistakes, but I did my best to help my children grow up to be independent, responsible adults. Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of children haven’t been so lucky. For the past few decades, we have seen an epidemic arise: Too many fathers in America are completely absent from their children’s lives. I know the importance of the role fathers play in their children’s lives, and it led me to look into the statistics about kids with absent fathers. The results are sobering and depressing.
