SAFETY ESSENTIALS

FACE MASKS The CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings, like on public and mass transportation, at events and gatherings, and anywhere they will be around other people. • Wear masks to help protect yourself from getting or spreading COVID-19. • Wear the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin. • Do not put masks on someone younger than two years. • Do not put masks on people who have trouble breathing, or people who cannot remove the mask without assistance. • Masks offer some protection to you and are also meant to protect those around you, in case you are unknowingly infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

• A mask is NOT a substitute for social distancing. Masks should still be worn in addition to staying at least 6 feet apart. • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol after touching or removing your mask. • Masks may not be necessary when you are outside by yourself away from others, or with other people who live in your household. However, some localities may have mask mandates while out in public and these mandates should always be followed. • The CDC is still studying the effectiveness of different types of masks and will update recommendations as new scientific evidence becomes available. Sanitize vs. Disinfect – What’s The Difference? When it comes to keeping a clean house, there’s a common misconception that disinfecting and sanitizing are the same. But did you know there is actually a difference between the two?

On the other hand, disinfecting involves the use of products that destroy rather than simply reduce any and all organisms in ten minutes according to the AOAC Use Dilution Test, which is regulated by the EPA when determining disinfectant efficiency. Disinfectants are vital for surfaces that come into contact with bodily fluids such as those found in restrooms or infant and toddler changing stations.

Sanitizing relies on agents that destroy 99.999 percent of bacteria within 30 seconds during the Official Detergent Sanitizer Test (a public health test) and is especially useful when working with food contact surfaces. Imagine a bartender cleaning their glassware or a dishwasher cleaning dinnerware. They’ll need to kill as many germs as possible in a short time in order to quickly put glasses and dishes away to be ready for use.
