Happy Mother’s Day! CELEBRATING THE HARD WORK AND DEDICATION

On the second Sunday in May, families across the country will take some time to celebrate the mothers in their families. For many of us, our mothers were incredibly selfless and served as an inspiration throughout our childhoods. I know my mom played a huge role in shaping me. She taught me that family is the joy of life. Through her strength and fortitude, my mom exemplified so many amazing qualities. She’s always been a strong leader without being forceful. In a way, she demanded respect without explicitly commanding it. It was simply the way she carried herself. My mom recently had foot surgery. She was unable to walk, so my grandmother and I came to visit to make sure she was fully taken care of. While there, I fell ill and woke up one night with a fever. My mom didn’t let her inability to walk stop her from checking on me. She crawled out of her room, wet a washcloth, and placed it on my forehead. If that’s not the epitome of a mother’s love, I’m not sure what is. My mom is also a fantastic example for daughters everywhere. When my grandma’s health was declining, my mom made sure she cared for her just like my grandma cared for my mom when she was young. She was there daily and always made sure my grandma had everything she needed. To this day, my mom is still the central pillar of our family. My brother and I live on opposite sides of the state but still choose to visit our parents for holidays. We’ll even vacation together on occasion. My husband absolutely loves her and our family as a whole. There is no stereotypical mother-in-law relationship here. We always invite her to our events and want her to be part of every experience because we love her.

Mothers, in general, are truly the unsung heroes of the world. We do a lot for our families. For me personally, I’ll work hard all day then come home and cook dinner before helping the kids with their homework or whatever else they need. I’m able to appreciate each of these moments because family is one of the great joys of life. I saw how much my mom had to sacrifice throughout my childhood, but it wasn’t for nothing. Who my mom was during my childhood shaped me into who I am today. Who I am today will help shape my kids in the future. It’s part of the beauty of life and motherhood, but it’s also a large part of the human experience. Sometimes it can be a struggle and maybe dinner got burnt or you had to stay late at work, but even in the

midst of challenges, you can take a step back and appreciate the experience.

Who we are to our kids shapes them into who they’re going to be. You don’t necessarily have to be a mother to make an impact, either. I have an aunt who has no children herself but still made a huge impact on my life. We all have opportunities

to leave a positive impact on someone else and encourage them to reach their full potential. It helps us and improves our community in nearly every aspect.

Is Ordering Takeout Wrecking Your Finances?

Statistically speaking, as a U.S. adult, it’s likely that you eat at restaurants five times a week or more, but even if it’s cheap fast food, it might be doing more damage to your personal finances than you think. >Page 1 Page 2 Page 3 Page 4
