An idyllic and peaceful setting to reflect and remember The final resting place of a loved one’s cremated remains is an extremely important and personal decision and careful consideration should be given to all options available. To help you with this process we can hold cremated remains for up to three months without charge, allowing you time to consider how you wish to remember your loved one, and ultimately what is to be the final resting place of their cremated remains. We have a number of peaceful and tranquil memorial areas within the grounds, including landscaped memorial gardens, a woodland glade, memorial mounds and a traditional book of remembrance. This brochure will guide you through the range of options available, and once you feel ready, our experienced team will be available for a memorial consultation to show you around the grounds and to discuss your needs, ensuring the memorial chosen is the right one for you and your family. A dedicated area of our grounds has been set aside for scattering of cremated remains, but should you wish you can also hold all or part of the cremated remains within any one of our unique memorials, alternative urns or special cremation jewellery. A remembrance memorial at The Oaks will provide a special place for family and friends to visit, reflect and remember when commemorating anniversaries, birthdays and other special times of the year.

It is not a requirement to place cremated remains into the orb. All orbs can be used as a remembrance memorial for your loved one’s scattered cremated remains, regardless of whether this has taken place at The Oaks or at another location.

Using natural Cumbrian limestone, the stone memorial orbs are designed to weather and age to create the established look of natural stones amongst the various plants and flowers. Each orb comes with a granite memorial plaque to which a gold or silver leaf inscription can be added for your personal tributes. A flower holder and vase can also be ordered for your floral tributes, complementing the style and look of your chosen orb. Flower vase tops are available in gold or silver. Please note stone orbs will be either buff or grey, depending on the chosen location.

Crafted from sustainable woodland timber and sourced from natural windfall in woodland locations nationwide, each orb is unique, providing an original memorial. As the orb becomes established within the woodland it will become home to mosses and insects, contributing to the wildlife and health of the woodland environment. Each orb comes with a granite memorial plaque to which a gold or silver leaf inscription can be added for your personal tributes. A flower holder and vase can also be ordered for floral tributes, complementing the style and look of your chosen orb.

The Southdowns Interment bench The Southdowns bench offers a unique feature for holding cremated remains within the bench. Steel caskets within each stone niche chamber can hold up to two sets of cremated remains or personal keepsakes and mementos. Each niche chamber has a timber front plaque providing an area for personal inscription and motifs. Additional plaque and inscription options available on request.

Oak memorial plaques

Natural oak obelisks with a distinctive acorn and oak leaf design are located close to the wildflower meadow and scattering area as focal points to visit and remember. Wooden memorial plaques can be placed onto the obelisk with several options for personal inscription and motifs. All lettering is engraved and finished in black enamel.

Memorial scattering area A location to scatter your loved ones, there is no charge if the cremation took place at The Oaks. If you wish to use this facility for anyone cremated elsewhere a fee is applied. A member of the team will be there to support you on the day you choose to scatter your loved one. A moment of reflection is available during the scattering please enquire for more information and ideas.

Alternative urns & jewellery

Embrace their memory day by day with our memorial jewellery, designed to celebrate and honour life. A small amount of your loved one’s cremated remains can be inserted into pendants, rings, charms and gems for you to hold them forever, close at heart.

For many of us, keeping a loved one’s cremated remains at home can be very comforting. We have a selection of alternative and decorative urns that can be displayed openly or kept in a private place of remembrance. Our memorial pin badges are a great addition for ongoing reflection and are only £2.50. Please contact us for further details on our full range of styles and memorial designs available.

Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is a permanent memorial with a page for every day of the year, within the book of remembrance room. Made from the finest handmade paper and richly bound in leather and gold leaf, the names of your loved ones are commemorated by skilled calligraphers and artists. The Book of Remembrance is always open on the current date and can be viewed in The Book of Remembrance Room. If you wish to see your entry on a different date, please contact the team. The memorial entry The memorial entry is normally inscribed under the date of death although any other date of significance to the family can be used ie birthday, anniversary. Personal text, motifs, designs and badges significant to your loved one or family can be added to enhance the entry. Our skilled calligraphers can work from photographs to recreate an image of a family pet or to reflect a favourite hobby or interest. Memorial entries do not have to be the date of death but any date significant to the deceased & their family ie Wedding anniversary.
