Founded over 100 years ago as a department store,The Whiteley is a redevelopment of an iconic London landmark to reimagine new life from this architectural gem.This will include 139 luxury private residences, and will host the five-star, 110 room, Six Senses London, an unrivalled wellbeing and sustainability brand which will provide a spa and wellness club, with top of the range amenities including a restaurant, treatment rooms, pool, and co-working spaces. In collaboration between award-winning architects Foster + Partner and development manager Finchatton,The Whiteley is a meticulous celebration of the former building’s art deco grandeur, which has been carefully and thoughtfully restored. A masterclass in place re-making, 20 new shops, cafés, restaurants, a cinema and gym complete the overall redevelopment and transformation of the former department store and the wider Queensway area. Residents can enjoy amenities and experiences such as co working areas, residents’ library, childcare facilities, sports halls, all-day dining restaurant and access to the Six Senses spa and gym. The Estate Director will be responsible for delivering on the retail vision and placemaking through exceptional occupiers and occupier engagement – Six Senses Hotel & Spa,The Whiteley Residences, Gym, Cinema, Flagship Restaurants and Multi Fashion Brands.They will serve as the principal public face of all operational aspects of the day to day running ofThe Whiteley Estate management, includingTechnical Services, Operations, Residence Management, CSR, and Customer Relations.They will act as the principal day to day contact with all of the Stakeholder groups, including residential customers, lettings agents, the council, and wider Queensway community, becoming immersed in the day-to-day life of the Whiteley Estate, supporting the ongoing work in making positive changes to the lives of local residents.

The Whiteley – The Estate HISTORY The dramatic history ofThe Whiteley is one of indefatigable ambition. Conceived by its namesake William Whiteley some 130 years ago as London’s first department store, the once global emporium of the senses has long-served as testament to the British entrepreneurial spirit.

1867 THE UNIVERSAL PROVIDER The Whiteleys customer base had grown steadily since its inception, and by 1867 occupied a row of shops along Westbourne Grove, comprising 17 separate departments. William Whiteley boldly claimed he could provide anything from a pin to an elephant (a claim that was put to the test by a doubting clergyman, who on 4pm on the day of his order received a very large delivery at his stables).

1851 THE VISIONARY

A youngYorkshire man, 20 years of age, visited The Great Exhibition in Hyde Park and was inspired to create the most lavish department store the world had ever seen. He returned to London 4 years later with just £10 in his pocket, determined to make hisvision a reality.

1896 ROYAL WARRANT

The store was extended between 1925 and 1927 to incorporate the iconic frontage that stands today. American businessman Harry Gordon Selfridge, who had become known for founding rival Selfridges

Whiteleys earned an unsolicited Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria – an unprecedented achievement.The store would later earn another Royal Warrant from King George V.

1911 THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STORE IN THE UK Whiteleys was rebuilt after the fire, but after some years and the passing of William Whiteley, a decision was made by the board to move to a new purpose-built store on Queensway, then called ‘Queens Road’.The store was designed by architects John Belcher RA and J J Joass. When the Lord Mayor of London opened the new store on 2 November 1911 in the presence of thousands, it was claimed to be ‘the largest shop in the world’, ‘the most beautiful store in the United Kingdom’, and ‘perfect in every detail of Architecture, Equipment, and Service’’

2018 CONSTRUCTION

United Drapery Stores, a British retail group that dominated the British high street from the 1950s to the 1980s, purchased Whiteleys in 1961 for £1,750,000.

Whiteleys closed in December 2018 to begin its redevelopment, in parallel with Meyer Bergman’s regeneration of Queensway Parade, which faces the Whiteleys building.

The retail / destinations The Whiteley is going to re-imagine not only the Grade II listed building that was once Britain’s first ever department store, but also Queensway Parade opposite, as a £3bn vision for the future of the street is underway.The plans include Parisian- style street pavilions, significant greening, public realm improvements, a new retail strategy, a series of landmark developments and a new public entrance to Hyde Park.The changes will enable the creation of a new district for living, shopping, dining and leisure.

The Role

The Estate Director will take full responsibility for all aspects of Savills Property Management Service acrossThe Whiteley and be the main interface between the Savills team and the client, having full accountability for the quality of world-class service delivered by all parts of the Savills Property ManagementTeam. The Estate Director will define and deliver exceptional customer service across the Estate, ensuring thatThe Whiteley remains one of the most prestigious luxury destinations in the UK and world-leading in occupier experience. The Estate Director will be a dynamic and experienced leader who will work closely with the dedicated management team and oversee the Six Senses concierge team. An influencer and values-led individual who is able to give strategic direction and clearly communicate the vision forThe Whiteley including the values, culture and behaviours to all stakeholders and will engage on a daily basis with the Head of MEP, Residence Manager,The Six Senses management team and other key workstream leads to work as a collaborative and integrated team. The Estate Director will be the public face of property management related service and ensure delivery of the vision and key objectives of an agreed business plan, having strategic focus whilst supporting the team to deliver world leading customer, visitor and occupier experience in one of, if not the, premium mixed use developments currently in the UK.

Management and Leadership

• Create and drive a strong multi-functional leadership team providing depth and resilience to the operation of the Estate. • Develop a business plan to be cascaded to all team members aligned to the values and aspi- rations of the client, ensuring that exceptional customer service is delivered throughout the whole Estate. • Direct and support the Senior ManagementTeam, including the on-site team as well as the head office supporting roles. • Work closely with Six Senses to develop a one-team ethos. • Through exemplary levels of support, development, and performance feedback, coach and nurture a best-in-class team. • Monitor metrics providing an objective view of our performance, identify shortcomings and address forthwith.

Leadership and Best Practice

The Estate Director will bring best practice from across the Savills business, Property Industry and aligned business sectors to all aspects of our service including: 14

• Working with the Savills central teams to adopt our core principles of service delivery in a manner that aligns with the prestigious nature of the Estate. • Become engrained in best practice groups across the Savills platform taking ideas back to The Whiteley. • Implement continuous service improvements through the introduction of new initiatives, ideas, and technology. • Monitor all aspects of performance including customer service feedback and sales perfor- mance and put measures in places to produce a culture of continuous improvement. • Championing diversity and inclusion through ethical and unbiased hiring practices, ensuring the best skillset for the role. • Champion the company policy within the area of Corporate Social Responsibility including Community Initiatives to ensure an integrated way of working by driving this ethos through the onsite teams. • Represent the Estate to outside agencies, ensuring its high-end profile is effectively main- tained and developed. • Understand business linkages by having a broad and deep understanding of the luxury res- idential/retail/leisure industry, the marketplace and issues relating to the wider neighbour- hood, politics and the environment in which it is located. • Find opportunities to continuously improve the Estate as a destination and successful asset.

Financial

• Establish and nurture a culture which allows the teams to take overall responsibility for the Estate, budgets and business objectives. • Forecast, set and manage the budgetary movements for service charge and non-rental revenue. • Manage resource within agreed financial parameters.
