ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON From small beginnings in 1850s Brighton, the University of Brighton has grown to a complex and diverse institution based in two locations across the south coast of England. Starting as a school of art in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion, it has grown to become the diverse and inclusive institution it is today. ESTATES AND FACILITIES DEPARTMENT Estate and Facilities Management manages the physical environment in which staff and students work, live and learn. Our commitment is not only to provide excellent facilities for the university community as a whole, but to contribute to ensuring an enriching student experience through fit for purpose, high quality buildings and support services. Head of Security Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities Management Estates and Facilities Management Brighton 8 (£44,706 – £51,799 per annum)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To design and lead the delivery of the strategic direction for the physical security of the University of Brighton and lead operational security for all campuses and buildings, establishing a secure estate and campus for staff, students and visitors Line management responsibility for: Senior Security Officer and Security Systems Officer.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

STRATEGIC DIRECTION • Design, deliver and lead the security strategy for the university, to establish a secure environment for employees, students and visitors and to maintain the security of buildings and property. • Evaluate risk and identify suitable security solutions to maintain and continually improve the security of the campus and to deliver supporting change programmes, as required. • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators to measure the performance and delivery of the security provision. Produce and present reports to consistently update on security performance, incidents, risks and concerns . • Manage the security budget and identify opportunities for efficiencies, savings and investments. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT • Define and implement a professional security guarding service that provides 24/7 cover across the estate. • Develop and lead a high performing team that meets the university’s security needs, with direct line management of the manager of the team. • Ensure the continuous development and training of the security team. • Oversee the management of regular staff reviews, performance, absence and employee related matters.

OPERATIONAL LEADERSHIP
