It was organized in 1813 and was named for Captain Jacob Warrick, an Indiana militia company commander killed in the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. THINGS TO DO IN Warrick County

Angel Mounds State Historic Site Explore an ancient Indiana metropolis at Angel Mounds State Historic Site. A thousand years ago, southwest Indiana was home to a thriving community of Native Americans known as the Mississippians on the banks of the Ohio River. Archaeologists are uncovering the mysteries of these past inhabitants by combing over artifacts left behind.

Newburgh Museum The Newburgh Museum’s mission is to

preserve, exhibit and educate all visitors about the history and culture of Newburgh and the surrounding area’s unique river town heritage.

The permanent displays at the museum include information about the town’s founding, how it got its name, its early industry, a period of decline and how it has changed in modern times. The main exhibit at the museum is changed every few months.

Warrick County Museum The Warrick County Museum was organized in 1976 for the purpose of collecting and preserving the heritage of the county. It opened December 4, 1977. The museum is located in the old Ella Williams School, which was constructed in 1901 and was dedicated to Miss Ella Williams in 1921. It served as an elementary school until its closing in 1976.The museum currently offers schools and organizations interactive programs on pioneer living and the history of Warrick County and its citizens. The museum offers community groups the use of their meeting facilities and space to display projects for public viewing. For the future, the museum plans to expand its services more into the community and to become more user friendly to the citizens residing in Warrick County.

Summer wouldn’t be complete without baseball and softball facilities in full swing, and local parks like Friedman Park and Scales Lake Park, to burn off the extra energy.

Major Highways

I-64 In the U.S. state of Indiana is a major east–west highway providing access between Illinois and Kentucky. It passes through Indiana as part of its connection between the two metropolitan areas of St Louis, Missouri, and Louisville, Kentucky. SR 61 - SR 61 Begins at State Road 66 east of Newburgh near the Ohio River. From there it runs north toward Boonville where it is concurrent with State Road 62. After Boonville SR 61 heads north towards Petersburg, passing through Lynnville where SR 61 has an interchange with Interstate 64. SR 62

West of US 41, SR 62 is known as the Lloyd Expressway within Vanderburgh County. SR 66

State Road 66 begins at the eastern end of a toll bridge over the Wabash River in New Harmony and ends at U.S. Route 150 east of Hardinsburg. It is a divided limited-access highway in the metropolitan Evansville area, where it is part of the Lloyd Expressway, and also between the unincorporated communities of Yankeetown and Hatfield. For the most part, however, State Road 66 is undivided rural highway following the Ohio River, and a large portion of its route (from just east of Newburgh to State Road 62 at Sulphur) carries the designation of the Ohio River Scenic Byway. SR 68 State Road 68 begins in New Harmony at State Road 69 and runs east, passing through the towns of Poseyville, Cynthiana, Haubstadt, Lynnville and Selvin. State Road 68 nearly parallels Interstate 64, but although it passes over the interstate twice, there is no direct interchange. However, as of 2008, it now has an interchange with Interstate 69, making it one of the few roads in the state to cross both the state level equivalent and the Interstate equivalent, in this case being 69. It ends at US 231 in the town of Dale.

SR 161 State Road 161 begins in Spencer County approximately nine miles southwest of Rockport at the northern end of the Owensboro Bridge across the Ohio River in the Ohio Township. It goes north to Reo. Which passes into Warrick County, where it has concurrencies with State Road 62 and State Road 68. At the north end of the county it passes over Interstate 64 three times in five miles (8 km), but the only interchange is at the last overpass. SR 261 State Road 261 connects begins at State Road 66 north of Newburgh, a suburb of Evansville. It runs to the northeast past Rolling Hills Country Club and Quail Crossing Golf Club. It terminates at State Road 62 on the west side of Boonville. SR 662 The western terminus of SR 662 begins at an interchange with Interstate 69 (I-69). From its beginning point, SR 662 heads southeast toward Newburgh. The route is a four-lane surface street that has a mix of commercial, business and residential traffic.
