Connect as a family on a special adventure you will never forget. Join us in Kenya to celebrate the annual graduation with the learners of Kisaruni Group of Schools—Milimani and Oleleshwa campuses. Milimani Campus opened its doors in January of 2011 and will be celebrating its fifth class of graduates this year. Oleleshwa Campus, its sister school, welcomed its first group of learners in January of 2012 and will be celebrating its third graduating class. Your itinerary includes a unique blend of volunteering and community immersion, allowing you to fully experience the magic Kenya has to offer. Create a lasting legacy as a family, while surrounding yourself with the colorful and friendly culture of the Maasai and Kipsigis people. Jambo!

Day 1: December 27

Int roduct ion and or ientat ion Walk Bogani’s winding paths under yellow acacia groves, and get acquainted with the camp, learning some Swahili along the way. Enjoy lunch on the veranda overlooking the savannah. Learn about WE Vi l lages Learn about the WE Villages development model. Our local staff work with rural villages and regional governments to support, teach and empower people within five Pillars of Impact: Education, Water, Health, Food and Opportunity. Connect wi th the Ki saruni learners Go on a guided tour of Kisaruni Girls Secondary School Milimani Campus, WE Charity’s first all-girls secondary school, and get connected with the girls who are completing their high school education. Kisaruni focuses on community and provides empowering curriculum, giving girls skills and opportunities to excel. Kisaruni strives to build on cultural values, promote leadership, value diversity and encourage active learning.

Travel day

Ful l breakfast at Hemingways Enjoy your breakfast on the hotel’s old front garden or in the comfort of your room. Morning f l ight f rom Nai robi to the Maasai Mara From Wilson Airport in Nairobi, take a short flight that will descend into the Great Rift Valley. As you fly over the Maasai Mara, watch for circular shapes that characterize Maasai bomas, and look for herds of local wildlife and cattle . Arr i ve at Bogani Cot tages and Tented Camp Settle into your new lodgings at Bogani Cottages and Tented Camp. The bespoke cottages and tents are a serene place to relax and reflect after an invigorating day of volunteering. Each accommodation is complete with hot and cold running water, flush toilets and comfortable beds, and is furnished with unique African fabrics and art. Day 2: December 28

Evening arr i val in Nai robi Collect your luggage and proceed through customs, where you will be welcomed by your in-country facilitator outside the arrivals hall. Enjoy a comfortable ride to your boutique hotel. Check- in at Hemingways Located at the foot of the Ngong Hills, in the historic suburb of Karen, Hemingways is a beautiful boutique hotel. This plantation-style hotel is spacious and warm, making it the perfect way to begin your volunteer adventure.

Day 4: December 30 Homestead v i s i t wi th Ki saruni learner

ME to WE Duka at Bogani Visit the Duka, our on-site shop, which offers locally sourced gifts, exclusive Kenyan products and ME to WE Artisans beaded accessories, as well as homewares made by local Maasai women. Day 6: January 1 Project -bui lding Roll up your sleeves and grab some tools to work alongside Maasai and Kipsigis community members as you help to build a local project. Beading at the Women’s Empowerment Center Spend the afternoon beading with the mamas at the Women’s Empowerment Center. Learn more about the artisans and how their work ties into the Opportunity pillar of the WE Villages development model. Foundat ion Source sess ion: Ef fect i ve Global Gi v ing—Peer di scuss ion and exchange An opportunity to share information, advice and resources on international giving with your Foundation Source peers. Celebrate New Year ’s Eve under the Kenyan sky A number of special surprises await you!

This shamba supplements the lunch program in WE Villages schools, as well as helps to decrease malnutrition in the communities by providing supplements to both pregnant mothers and their children . Day 5: December 31 Project -bui lding Roll up your sleeves and grab some tools to work alongside Maasai and Kipsigis community members as you help to build a classroom or other school building. Ki saruni graduat ion day It’s graduation day for Milimani and Oleleshwa! Attend the Kisaruni Girls Secondary School Graduation Ceremony. Join the educators, parents and families of the learners as they celebrate their graduation from high school. Witness this authentic celebration and amazing accomplishment with their families and closest friends. Foundat ion Source sess ion: Best Pract ices and IRS Rules for Internat ional Grantmaking Learn about your foundation’s various options for global giving and how Foundation Source can help facilitate your international grants.

This morning, journey to the boma (a traditional Kenyan homestead) of a learner from one of the two Kisaruni Girls Secondary School campuses, Milimani or Oleleshwa. Meet her family and community, and learn about the tasks that made up her daily routine before entering secondary school. Engage in conversations with her family and witness firsthand the pride they have for their daughter, the new graduate. Sponsor lunch Sit down and enjoy a special lunch with a Kisaruni learner and her family. Vi s i t Baraka Hospi tal and medicinal garden or project - bui lding (opt ional ) Visit Baraka Hospital and its Maternity Ward. Baraka serves over 30,000 community members, promoting healthy living and providing preventative, curative and rehabilitative services to the most vulnerable segments of the Kenyan population. These services enable individuals and communities to enhance their health. Next, learn about the medicinal plants grown in the shamba (garden), including moringa, aloe vera, thyme, spider plant and many more.

Depar t Bogani for Wi lson ai rpor t Fly back to Nairobi over the Maasai Mara, landing at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Vi s i t the Elephant orphanage The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage offers a safe haven for baby elephants that have lost their mothers. Get an up-close look at the babies on a private visit and learn from their keepers how, with love and care, these elephants are able to return Kenya’s National Parks when they feel ready. Check in at Hemingways for a day room Dinner at Hemingways Hemingways Brasserie serves European classics with a twist. Enjoy sizzling steaks in the Josper oven—the only one of its kind in Kenya. Other favorites include steak tartar, bouillabaisse and omelette à choix. Drive to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home Kwaherinina safari jemma! OR Begin your custom extens ion!

See where some of the Kisaruni learners went to primary school. Hear more about the leadership and mentorship programs the Kisaruni learners conduct with the nearby primary schools. Oleleshwa school and farm v i s i t Visit Oleleshwa Campus, and meet the learners! Enjoy a cup of chai

Enjoy a leisurely hike as you learn about medicinal herbs from a local Maasai warrior. You will also have the chance to train and compete in the art of Maasai weaponry as you enjoy a cup of chai or a glass of wine on the hillside. Enjoy Nyama Choma dinner Relax and enjoy a traditional Nyama Choma dinner—Kenya’s barbecue. Maasai elder ci rcle Meet with Maasai elders and learn about their traditions firsthand.

The exclusive tented safari camp features a veranda overlooking the hippo-filled river. Each tent is furnished with its own private, three-piece bathroom and comfortable pillow-topped beds.

Designed with privacy, exclusivity and adventure in mind, Richard’s River Camp is located on the banks of the Njageteck River and surrounded by 70 acres of private land in the Olare Orok Conservancy. The camp allows for total privacy and exclusivity with a total of only seven tents. The Ngoyanai springs provide permanent water, drawing in large numbers of animals to the area around camp. Q: Is there f i ltered water? A: We provide filtered water for our guests to drink. We bring huge jugs full of clean drinking water to our camps and then recycle them after each trip. We recommend bringing along a good reusable bottle that you can fill up as you head from our camp for your day trips to the community. Q: Wi l l I have access to phone and Internet whi le in Kenya? A: Both phone and email communication are easily accessible in Nairobi. Cell phone service is intermittently available while you are staying at Bogani Cottages and Tented Camp.
