2022 / THE ONES THAT BUILT THE BRAND

Welcome to the 2022 edition of the Built the Brand Sale! This sale marks the sixth time we’ve assembled our best and most proven sows to oer them at auction and we’re extremely proud of this collective group of females and the opportunity they represent. The eort to put together this catalog always provides plenty of time for reflection and it’s been especially enjoyable to think about the evolution of this sale since our first one in 2015. There were very specific reasons why we sold sows in 2015, and even 2017, and looking back, it’s hard to imagine where we would be if we hadn’t committed to this approach. Those early sales pushed boundaries, set a bar, and paved the way for growth in so many areas for our operation and breeding program.

We have always concentrated on raising competitive show pigs and for so many reasons, that focus will remain going forward. However, the ancillary eect of that eort is the very essence of our breeding program; generational genetics that are expected to perform and make better stock. With each passing BTB sale, it’s encouraging and rewarding to know that #HHInfluence is impacting the show pig breeding eorts of many others in a positive way. In 2022, look around at sales of all types and kinds; what a time to be selling show pigs! In conversation with other show pig enthusiasts, the question is often asked, ‘when will we see the ceiling?’ I don’t know the answer to that question, but I do believe the overwhelming excitement for raising and showing pigs is very evident and as an industry, I think we all have a lot to be thankful for. Opportunities abound for families to show, breeders to sell and supporters to invest. I’m proud of how our pigs are performing and yet I know, for certain, none of that would be possible without the dedicated team that makes it happen. The months since last year’s sale have been challenging at times due to a few changes in the team, however, those that remain and the ones who joined share a commitment to excellence and a strong desire to keep raising the bar. At the end of any day, our ability to deliver on customer expectations wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of this team, the best in the business! Our measure of success is directly tied to the success of our customers, and by all accounts, we continue to enjoy success in many forms and on all levels. There have been many wins to celebrate and many of the sows responsible for that success can be found in the pages of this catalog. Our current inventory at HH is as high as it’s ever been, and for that reason alone, we can say with confidence this set is the best we’ve oered to date. Yet beyond just numbers, this group of sows represent as much proven revenue generating ability as we’ve put together, and the bred and open females represent a rare and exclusive opportunity to select from the very top of the inventory we’ve developed at the slat barn. Altogether, this oering is deep, it’s diverse, and every animal in the oering was engineered with show ring success in mind. On behalf of the entire HH crew, I invite you to join us at the farm on June 4th for the 2022 edition of the Built the Brand Sale.

2022 / HEIMER HAMPSHIRES

From the beginning, our approach to marketing has always been focused on the female. The confidence we have in the show pigs, boars and bred females we sell is largely based on the track record of the sows behind them. ‘Foundation female’ is often used in our industry to describe females, but it’s our belief that designating one as a ‘foundation female’ doesn’t automatically mean she’s proven. So the big question: What makes a proven sow? The answer isn’t always easy, so in an eort to simplify, we categorized four ways we consider our sows to be proven. WHAT MAKES A PROVEN SOW?

This seems obvious, but it’s often overlooked or even dismissed. Usually, the sows that generate dollars are the same sows that hit for the cycle and eventually accomplish all four of these qualities in their lifetime.

HER ABILITY TO GENERATE DOLLARS

Sows that produce boars and gilts that transmit the best traits of the sow family to the next generation are a true testament to the genetic makeup of a sow. Sows with this ability can prove themselves for multiple generations. Even though it’s often subjective, our industry still considers show ring success the ultimate measuring stick. There’s only one grand at every show, so the ability to compete at the highest level remains a worthy achievement. The littermates to winners, the full sib to a popular boar or the maternal sister to the best sow often get a second look, not because they are more proven than the rest, but because their pedigree says they could be.

HER ABILITY TO INFLUENCE FUTURE GENERATIONS

HER ABILITY TO RAISE COMPETITIVE SHOW PIGS

19-8 SIRE: KINGPIN DAM: 154-5 :: DIRTY SECRET X SKY CAM (17-2) X BACHELOR PARTY

RESERVE CHAMPION HAMP | ‘22 SAN ANTONIO TRENCHES X 19-8

SERVICE SIRE: FOR THE GOOD | DUE: 7/13 • Discussion surrounding candidates for Lot 1 is usually fun banter amongst those of us at the farm. This year, it was never a question of which sow deserved to be first - only if she was really going to sell. Disclaimer, Boots is not happy! • It may go without saying, but she’s a Kingpin daughter and that certainly helps explain her track record and reinforces her value going forward. • Granddam (17-2) was a Berkshire-colored gilt that the Lackey boys showed in TX with great success. Billy Wolf purchased her, sent her to HH to be a sow and her mating to Dirty Secret produced a very successful show gilt for the Rogers crew in AZ. Her far less impressive sister is the mother of 19-8 and another great reminder that sometimes, you really can’t predict which ones will generate until you get them in production. • Her first litter sired by JoJo included a pair of very successful show gilts. One was Reserve in Division III at the Indiana State Fair for the Danner crew. The other found the backdrop several times for the Wolfe family in Iowa. • Her second litter sired by Trenches was as deep as it gets: Reserve Hamp Barrow ‘22 San Antonio, Class Winning Middleweight Dark Cross ‘22 San Antonio, $14,000 gilt consignment in the “She Sale” and a pair of boars ‘Dig In’ (HH) and ‘Dirt Bag’ (WTX) • Her most recent litter, sired by No Introduction, was undoubtedly a featured litter in the Spring Showcase, barrows at $7500, $4500, $2500 & $2050 and gilts at $9500, $4000 & $2250. • The depth and quality of her No Intro’s was a big part of the decision to use FOR THE GOOD, the No Intro son we raised and used with confidence. Truth be told, we’ve always believed great sows can make any boar famous and this is the kind of sow that’s proven to have that ability. • She’s YOUNG, her resume is LONG and her future is BIG!

His mate barrows were Reserve Hamp and Class Winner in the Dark Crosses at ‘22 San Antonio, sister was our $14,000 “She Sale” consignment and mate to boar “Dirt Bag” at WTX. We were fortunate enough to get a few bred to him early and then he went down in his left hip and we were convinced he was done, until he wasn’t. He’s as tough and resilient as we’ve ever seen and we’re certain he’s destined for special things as a sire. 23-7 SIRE: PROVOKED DAM: 96-7 :: DIRTY SECRET X DIRTY GOOD (143-10) X ANTE UP • These 23’s are littermate sisters to CAROLE, the $55,000 show gilt that was Champion Cross Gilt at the ‘20 National Junior Show, ‘20 Missouri State Fair and multiple jackpot shows that summer. • Their mother, 96-7, sold as Lot 1 in the ‘21 BTB Sale for $41,000 to S Squared Showpigs, bred to Gangster. Her litter included the Reserve Hampshire Barrow and Champion Crossbred Gilt at ‘22 FTW • Of the pair, 23-7 is nearly a carbon copy of her mother and Karl, his superstitious self, had to picture her on the same side, in the same place as her mother. • A solid white Crickets out of 23-7’s first litter brought $14,000 at Perfect Timing and was 6th in the Middleweight Yorks at Houston. His blue sister is very easy to find at the slat barn! • The 44 litter boar we have on feed, sired by Honcho is out of 23-7’s second litter and is an outlier amongst the boars we have on feed • Sells bred to JUGS, a mating that has big time potential! SERVICE SIRE: JUGS | DUE: 6/12

23-10 SIRE: PROVOKED DAM: 96-7 :: DIRTY SECRET X DIRTY GOOD (143-10) X ANTE UP SERVICE SIRE: ALL IN THE FAMILY | DUE: 7/19 SIRE: • These 23’s are littermate sisters to CAROLE, the $55,000 show gilt that was Champion Cross Gilt at the ‘20 National Junior Show, ‘20 Missouri State Fair and multiple jackpot shows that summer. • Their mother, 96-7, sold as Lot 1 in the ‘21 BTB Sale for $41,000 to S Squared Showpigs, bred to Gangster. Her litter included the Reserve Hampshire Barrow and Champion Crossbred Gilt at ‘22 FTW • Of the pair, 23-10 looks an awful lot like her grandmother, 143-10 and when we parade the old sow on sale day, the success of this sow line will be much easier to understand. • This sister wasn’t a show gilt and actually got an earlier start in production. Her incredible daughter, sired by Crickets, is no doubt a feature in the Open Gilt section (Lot 202) of this sale. • Her second litter, sired by Who Made Who includes the 125 litter boar we retained, his mate barrow that was 3rd Overall Hamp at the Revival and Reserve Supreme at the Chowchilla show in California • The 83’s, sired by Snooze, are her third litter. We caved to barrow pressure and opted to sell 83-1 to TX instead of feeding him for a boar. His sisters deserve your attention in the Prospect GIlt section of the sale. • After being in the ring at OYE as an Associate Judge and learning about pedigrees after the show, it was very evident that All in the Family (Palmer, OK) needed to breed a few sows around here. This mating decision was made long before we ever decided to include these sisters in this sale!

CROSSBRED DOB: MAY 2019

• The ‘original’ 225-6 sold as Lot 1 in the 2019 BTB Sale. She had just generated the Grand Barrow at San Antonio and the Reserve Grand Barrow at FTW the year before and after 3 straight litters sired by Dirty Secret, she was bred to Goosebumps, the best Dirty son we had raised. Ben Cooley stepped up to the plate that summer and purchased interest in 225-6, a decision that made a huge impact on his breeding program at Flatland Showpigs. 225-6 gained acclaim for her sons - boars and barrows alike - but as time went on, her daughters are where the true value lies. • 225-6 A & B are genetic clones of the original sow. We’ve had a longstanding relationship with TransOva and shortly after those wins in 2018, it was very evident we needed to start the process to clone her. Both of these sows have been very prolific in production and they’ve consistently generated in the same fashion as the original. • 225-6 A is the mother of the solid white Kingpin gilt that we sold at Kings of the Hill in the fall of ‘19 for $25,000 who went on to be a class winner at ‘20 San Antonio • Her litter out of No Introduction last summer/fall was very deep in quality and like several matings in this sale, it factored into the decision to use FOR THE GOOD this time around. • It will be worth the trip to see these clones, the original 225-6 and the boars they’re bred to, LIVE on The Hill.

Phenomenal litter top to bottom - $10,000 prospect gilt at Perfect Timing, 4th place Heavyweight Yorkshire at ‘22 San Antonio, ‘Silent Treatment’ (HH) and 100-10 (Lot 209) in the Open Gilt section of this sale. • Sells bred to ANTHEM! SERVICE SIRE: HEATER | DUE: 7/21 • These 234 litter sows are daughters of 240-12, the KMS sow that sold as Lot 4 in the ‘21 BTB sale to Bob Foster, OH and is working at Nate Warner’s alongside her sister, the mother of the Grand Overall Barrow at ‘21 OYE. • Another 234 litter gilt was Champion Crossbred Gilt at San Antonio for Tristanne Rasco and now works for Leo Canales in TX. She’s been a potent generator to date and is the mother of ‘Leo’ a son of The King that was at HH for a brief time. • These 234 litter sows are also a littermate to Rodeo, a boar that stood at Top Cut who we used for a couple of seasons. It’s very likely you’ll see Rodeo daughters in future BTB Sales - we like them • A Dirty South daughter, 48-6, sells as Bred Gilt in this sale and is worth a closer look if you have appreciation for linebred pedigrees. • We sold her most recent litter in our May Online Sale and at Lackey’s Spring Sale. Those 105’s, sired by Anthem were some of our favorite barrow prospects and we’re excited about the homes they found and chance they’ll get. • She sells bred to HEATER, the Goosebumps son we bought with Hoge Livestock. 295-7 IN SHOW GILT FORM AT WPX

SERVICE SIRE: SNOOZE | DUE: 7/6 • A few years ago, we bought a couple bred sows from our ole buddy Hilty. One of those was 43-4, a Visionary daughter than quickly gained fame as the sister to Rock Star’s mother. We didn’t get many litters out of her, but the Dirty Secret daughters we retained have been generators. • 295-7 is the leading daughter of that purchase from Hilty and this former show gilt is sure to impress when you see her sale day. • Over time, she’s proven the ability to produce sellable and highly competitive gilts and barrows. Her Kingpin litter in particular was high in quality and we’re offering one of those, 35-7 (Lot 205) as an Open Gilt in this sale. • She sells bred to SNOOZE, the Stay Classy son that we’ve used pretty hard over the last several months. Snooze’s pedigree is void of Dirty Secret and he’s been an appealing choice for Dirty influenced females that are built and look like this one - we love this sow and mating! •

One of those sold as an Open Gilt in the ‘21 BTB Sale to Wolf Livestock, IN • Her second litter, sired by Visionary, produced Circle Back and another trio of sisters that we retained. They’re slowly making their way through the crate the first time and we’re very excited about their future. The 93’s in the May Online Sale were Anthem X Visionary X 215-8! Check out the 93 that sells as Lot 309 in the Prospect Gilts. • There are several litters in this sale that we’d love to farrow at HH and there’s no doubt, this mating to DIG IN one would be high on the list. 6TH PLACE OTHER CROSS | ‘22 HOUSTON GANGSTER X 58-7

SERVICE SIRE: FOR THE GOOD | DUE: 6/13 • The 58’s are the only two sisters to Goosebumps. Their mother sold in the ‘19 BTB Sale and as we look back, it would sure be fun to have access to Distinct again. His daughters have had a very profound impact on the industry, especially over the last few years and it’s easy to see his influence here in this pair of sows. • This one didn’t start as fast as her sister, but the Acoustic gilt we kept from her first litter looks to be a fun piece to work with. • Breeding her back to Gangster, the Goosebumps son was probably a stretch but the outcome was incredible. We retained a boar that we can’t wait to introduce and one of our favorite barrows to watch develop all winter was from this litter - he was Reserve Grand at his county show and placed at Houston. • The 48’s in the Spring Showcase were sired by No Intro and out of 58-7. That was her biggest and deepest litter yet. • She sells bred to FOR THE GOOD and as you flip through these pages, you’ll realize pretty quickly that FTG got a chance on several of our very best sows and when you see him on the grass on sale day, we’re confident you’ll understand why! •

• The 58’s are the only two sisters to Goosebumps. Their mother sold in the ‘19 BTB Sale and as we look back, it would sure be fun to have access to Distinct again. His daughters have had a very profound impact on the industry, especially over the last few years and it’s easy to see his influence here in this pair of sows. • If we were keeping track of MLI on our crossbred sows, we’re pretty certain she would rise to the top and reign supreme over all the rest. Through 4 litters, she has farrowed 52 live pigs and weaned 46 of those herself. Quantity did not trump quality. • Her Kracker litter included ‘Snow Goose’ and three sisters that have all farrowed once. • In our attempt to line up the pedigree, we used Bad Apple, a Goosebumps son the second time around and that litter included the Champion Lightweight Cross 4H Barrow at the Missouri State Fair last summer and a trio of keeper gilts. • Last summer, she farrowed an incredible litter sired by No Introduction. That was a standout litter in the Fall Showcase, the weekend when we ultimately decided ‘Houdini’ (18-6) needed to stay intact. Three barrows showed at San Antonio - the best one was 2nd behind another HH-bred barrow and the other two were both 6th in their respective classes. • Once again, she did her job this winter and weaned a high value litter sired by Trenches. • She settled first service to FOR THE GOOD and to be completely honest, she was jockeying for position at the top of this sale, until the day she got sick. Testing didn’t provide the answers we hoped to find and it’s the ultimate oxymoron to tell you our most maternal sow sells OPEN. Regardless of her status, she’s proven to be an elite generator of quality and our misfortune is likely to be her next owner’s gain.

NO INTRODUCTION X PROVOKED (59-8) X DIRTY SECRET (240-10) CROSSBRED FOR THE GOOD Pretty rich history for the 45 litter notch around here and we’re confident that FTG will live up to the reputation as the greats before him. Standout boar pig from a very high quality litter and a fitting name for a boar that was very good at every stage. Shares the same mother as Curly, a sow that generates more bone and feature than many of the rest. We didn’t actively promote him, but instead chose to use him every chance we had and several of the very best sows in this year’s offering carry his service. NO INTRODUCTION X BLURRED 40-2 X HIGH COUNTRY CROSSBRED JUGS Purchased at Perfect Timing last fall from the Cooper Flash crew. He was an attractive, shapely boar at PT time that looked like he had boar quality. Review his extended pedigree: No Introduction X Blurred 40-2 X High Country X Blurred Vision X Trigger X Swagger X Super Monster X Spud. That pedigree, void of Dirty Secret but stacked with many of the all time greats was, and still is very attractive. We liked him then..we LOVE HIM NOW! He matured into a beast of a boar. Incredible appetite, amazing conversion and off the charts in all fertility categories. His sister was a $22,000 outlier at OYE and we believe Jugs is well positioned to be an outlier as a sire! BRED BY COOPER FLASH

NO INTRODUCTION X DIRTY SECRET (58-8) X DISTINCT (164-4) CROSSBRED HOUDINI

For a really long time, he was simply known as 18-6 and when he made a few trips around the sale ring on preview night before the Fall Showcase, it was very evident that this one needed to stay intact. He might’ve disappeared from the sale offering but he landed firmly in our breeding plans for this season and beyond. His mother is 58-8, the highly prolific sister to Goosebumps. Three mate barrows were shown at SA, two of those were 6th place sale makers and the best one was second behind another HH barrow (mate to Dig In). The 2nd place pig was nearly a carbon copy of this boar and a confidence builder as we started to breed sows.

GOOSEBUMPS X SECRET WEAPON (234-8) X KMS (240-12) CROSSBRED GANGSTER

Very excited to announce that Gangster is back on The Hill! A year ago, we sold several key sows in the ‘21 BTB sale carrying his service. Several pigs from those litters found the backdrop and we know there’s a healthy stash of his daughters in position to do great things, here and elsewhere. Our litters last year reinforced how we felt about Gangster, but it was the litters and pigs we sold this spring that convinced us he needed to be a bigger part of our plan going forward. We’ve relied on the sow family behind him for a very long time to bring look, presence and agility - Gangster is all of that - but he’s bolder and stouter and but he’s bolder and stouter and we’re very glad that he’s home!

STAY CLASSY X AMERICAN BAD BOY BRED BY CANTRELL SHOWPIGS CROSSBRED SNOOZE

Purchased at 2020 Perfect Timing from Cantrell. His mother was the very definition of a boar-maker when Cantrell found her at the slat barn and the single biggest reason we were so excited to get this one bought. We waded into the shallow end with him the first season, but learned enough to know that he needed more chances and he’s rewarded us with lots of sellable and feedable quality. He doesn’t have any Dirty Secret in his pedigree and he’s been fun to use on heavily-Dirty-influenced females.

KINDA BIG DEAL X DISTINCT X HAMP STAMP | BRED BY JD SHOWPIGS OWNED WITH LACKEY LIVESTOCK CROSSBRED TRENCHES Purchased at 2020 Perfect TIming with Lackey Livestock from JD Showpigs. Dam was bred here and has been an anchor for JD’s program where multiple maternal sibs have grabbed banners and are making a difference in the JD sowherd. Maternal sib to Anthem. He is burly, broad and dense - sires exactly like he looks! Sired the Reserve Hamp Barrow at ‘22 San Antonio, several other placing barrows at SA & Houston and left us with a set of females that bring extra punch to the table. We purchased Anthem from JD Showpigs at the ‘21 Lackey Spring Sale. He’s a maternal sib to Trenches and a full sib the Reserve Cross at FTW and the sows that are working at JD’s & Cantrell’s. The full sib sow at Cantrell’s produced the Supreme Champion Commerical Gilt at ‘21 OYE and is the mother of ‘No Other’ at Coulson’s. It was fun to watch Anthem mature and when the time came, we gave him a big chance to shine in our Feb-March farrowing group - and he did! Fun set of pigs to watch go from the crates, to the nursery and to the show barn. They were reminiscent of the early crops out of Dirty Secret and we are very bullish on their feedability. He will continue to get a big chance at HH.

More draft horse than show pony, Heater’s skull, chest spread and rib dimension are next level. He covered a lot of females at HH and we’re anxious to see where he fits best going forward.

55-8 SIRE: DIRTY SPICE DAM: 95-8 :: KMS X WHITE PRIVILEGE (155-10) X SPRINGSTEEN • Sired by Dirty Spice, a direct Dirty Secret son out of ‘Spice’, the sister to the Grand Barrow at ‘17 OYE that we retained and used for a short time. • Mother of 55-8 sold in the ‘21 BTB Sale. She was the most powerful KMS daughter we ever had at HH and she certainly passed the power traits on to this daughter • 55-8 farrowed her litter outside last summer, in fact it was the night of the sow sale which is why it’s so memorable. That litter, sired by Rodeo was part of the Fall Showcase and our consignments to The Established sale in TX. • Sells bred to GANGSTER! We learned a lot about Gangster in his first crop and if we know one thing for certain, he’s capable of big things when mated to sows like this! SERVICE SIRE: GANGSTER | DUE: 6/11

Ultra moderate, sappy center and stout featured - brood sow delux! • In ‘20, her Goosebumps litter was well represented in the sets of pigs we sold at Kings of the Hill & Major League. • Maternal sister to 115-7, the outlier black headed bred gilt that sells as Lot 107. • She sells bred to FOR THE GOOD and if you get a chance to see these two in person - the sow and the boar shes bred to - we think you’ll agree; this mating has as much potential for a boar as any in the offering.

122-13 She sold as Lot 27 in the 2017 BTB Sale with far less fanfare than several others and if we had the chance to sell this sow today, there’s no doubt that 122-13 would garner much more attention. In the 2017 catalog, her footnotes read: We didn’t have many elite barrows out of Full Strut, but his daughters have been nothing short of spectacular. All of our first-crop Full Strut daughters can be found in this oering and the leader of the pack is 122-13. This sandy belted sow was ahead of her time in terms of build, look and extension upfront. She’s flawless in her skeleton and much like 53-11 (THE Black Attack sow), she’s proven the ability to pass on those ideal traits to her daughters. If you’re serious about building better sows you need to be serious about owning 122-13.
