1. Beautiful Miles of Beaches Home to some of the Caribbean’s most impressive beaches, Jamaica offers a vast expanse of spectacular white sands. With breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, mountains, and crystal blue waters, the beaches are the perfect place to relax on vacation. Nearly every coastal city in Jamaica has a unique and inviting seashore to welcome you. 2. With an average temperature of 81˚ in Jamaica, can you think of a
better way to escape the dreaded cold?
Jamaica is home to the stunning Blue Mountains, can provide a relaxing cool down and lower temperature than the beachy lowlands. 3. Enjoy Local Cuisine Jamaica is well known for its exotic and locally sourced meals. While on the island, it is essential that you try the local cuisine. Fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood and even eggs are all typically grown and sourced by the regional farmers in Jamaica. Of the first things to try are the jerk-seasoned dishes, one of the most well known cuisines. Usually served on chicken or pork, jerk and curry seasoning pack a delicious punch! Some consider it the second-national dish of Jamaica.
bird species and flora will astound you. Cameras can help you retain the memories, but seeing the wildlife for yourself is irreplaceable. M O N T H L Y April 2017
Hello Friends, This coming April 28 marks our 14th year anniversary. It doesn’t seem so long ago when my partner, Noel Delrosario, and I started our practice in a small 900 sq ft clinic in the north side of Valparaiso.
Michael Pfeifer, DPT, ATC is our Clinical Director and lead PT for our LaPorte office. Dr. Pfeifer is well known in the LaPorte community and his energy and enthusiasm will be a big asset to our practice. Rebekah Shoop, DPT, MDT will be joining our practice in Valparaiso in mid-May. Dr. Shoop is moving to the area from Indianapolis, and brings with her knowledge and intensive training in hands-on care for the spine and extremities. Her sweet personality will surely be a big hit with our patients. Finally, we continue to educate and inform an ever-increasing number of NW Indiana residents through our workshops. We now host workshops on:
All we had was ourselves (literally- we did everything from typing our own notes, answering the phones, cleaning the office, etc) and our mission…to deliver the best hands on one-on-one physical therapy care in NW Indiana. 3500+ patients later, and we would not have been able to help as many people as we have without your support and your referrals. We owe you a big thank you! Those 14 years have also seen my kids grow from babies to now teenagers! Arlan Alburo, PT, MTC CEO, Co-Founder, OBTS

How do we keep growing and maintain our laser focus on YOU, our patient?
It can only happen if we abide by our core values. Here they are: • We will create and deliver a complete WOW experience for our patients and our team. • We will interact with every patient and team member intent on forming deep meaningful honest lifelong relationships. • We will treat every patient and every team member the way we want to be treated. • We will be passionate, driven, yet humble and vulnerable. • We will promote a fun, energetic team spirit. • Our team will embrace and drive change, and will continue to relentlessly pursue growth and learning. • We will be the number one source of healthcare information for our patients and community to help them make educated decisions about their condition.
My 17-year old daughter Alex is finishing her junior year at Valparaiso High School. I love her drive and dedication…so focused on getting into one of the top business schools in the country. My 13-year old 8th grader son, AJ, is 4 inches taller than me now… still loves playing basketball and keeps my weekends occupied with AAU Travel basketball…on top of being a straight A student! Not only have my children grown these 14 years, but our practice has…and continues to grow. On April 3, our 3rd office opens in LaPorte. We can’t wait to help the residents of LaPorte and surrounding communities like we continue to do for residents around our Valparaiso and Crown Point offices. Our team has also grown…from just two (Noel and myself) to now 21. Jane Alburo, PT, MTC has joined our practice and is now the Clinical Director and lead PT for our Crown Point office. Jane brings with her 20 years of experience and most of all, a compassionate and “go- above and beyond” approach to patient care.
You are the reason why we are here thriving 14 years later…and you will continue to be our focus the next 14 years!
Sincerely,
Arlan Alburo
Tips for flying with back pain. Here are a few things to think about when you must fly with back pain. Some of them
in the galley part if you request politely of the cabin crew at times when it is not too busy. Wear clothing that allows you to move freely. Do not wear anything constrictive or heavy. Try not to fall asleep. This can be difficult but it is better to stay awake and move than to fall asleep and be in an uncomfortable position which may aggravate your
may sound obvious but it is good to be mindful of the things that will put you in a position to have the best outcome possible on a flight. Drink lots of water on the flight. Particularly if you are taking back pain medication and as you are at altitude your body will easily get dehydrated which is not good for anyone and especially not if you have back pain and disc problems. However the easy solution is to keep drinking water and to avoid tea, coffee and alcohol as these only dehydrate you further. Move around as much as possible and at least once an hour get out of your seat and walk up and down the aisles. If you are following a back care stretching and strengthening exercise system then try to do some of these exercises. Do be courteous to other passengers but it should be perfectly possible to do the standing ones without causing any inconvenience in the aisles or
more comfortable. If it helps you put your feet on a raised area to bring your knees and hips in a better alignment, you will need to experiment with this. D o ask for assistance. back pain. If you feel you may need to sleep take a headrest cushion with you and request additional pillows. W hen in your seat, use the pillows and take a lumbar support if you need to help you get in the most comfortable position you can. Airline seats were not designed for people with back pain but there is a lot you can do with blankets and pillows to make yourself

Valerie Schlink 7. Joyce Jolly Cold Brewed Jamaica (Hibiscus Iced Tea) Makes 1 quart • 1/2 cup dried hibiscus flowers (about 1/2 ounce or 15 grams)
• 1 cinnamon stick • 4 cups cold water
• 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup simple syrup • Lime wedges (optional, for serving)
Place the hibiscus and cinnamon stick in a large jar or bowl. Add water. Cover and refrigerate overnight (8 to 12 hours). Add simple syrup to taste. Strain out the solids and serve over ice with a squeeze of lime, if desired.
Store the brewed jamaica covered in the refrigerator for up to one week.
Recipe Notes Look for dried hibiscus flowers (also called flor de jamaica) at natural food stores, Latin markets or online. You can also substitute 4 hibiscus tea bags in place of the loose flowers. You can substitute honey, agave or your sweetener of choice in place of the simple syrup. (Start with 1 tablespoon and add more to taste.) Other aromatics you can steep in your jamaica: sliced fresh ginger, star anise, orange peel, allspice, or lemongrass.
