KEEPING THE FAMILY DYNAMIC EVERYWHERE WE GO Family is a huge part of my life, both at home and at Beaumont Family Dentistry. Not only do I have a chance to work with my husband, Ryan, but I also work with many of my in-laws. Having the opportunity to work with family has been a wonderful experience, and it’s easier than many people expect. and we are all focused on working for the same purpose. At the end of the day, we’re a family unit first and foremost, no matter what takes place from a business standpoint. well before we got married. At the time, I didn’t have any interest in the dentistry field, but that quickly changed through my interactions with my soon-to-be family. I was always happy to come into Dr. Takacs’ office for my appointments, and the team made me feel comfortable, welcome, and taken care of — they still do! AN ESSENTIAL PART OF OUR LIVES

Outside the office, we still try to spend as much time together as we can. Every Sunday, we get together for a casual family dinner, where our conversations are always lighthearted and fun. We also plan a family vacation at least once a year and make sure to spend the holidays with one another. For Thanksgiving this year, we’re combining both Ryan’s side and my side of the family to have a great big dinner. We’re especially excited for this because it will be the first family gathering for my second son, who will be born at the beginning of the month. What I find most remarkable is that our family atmosphere isn’t just between us; it’s apparent throughout every office of Beaumont Family Dentistry. While it’s true that our family has a huge presence here, the office is also so much more. Every one of our patients is treated like family, and the team here works toward the same goal of doing our best to ensure our patients leave with a smile. I’ve witnessed again and again the family-oriented priorities of Dr. Takacs. With her, family always comes first, whether that’s with our patients or the team.

My interest began to peak especially after Ryan and I started dating, which was around the same time he entered dental school. As I watched him progress through his schooling and then excel later in his career when he joined the Beaumont team, I became aware of just how much passion and enthusiasm Ryan and his family have for this field. When Dr. Takacs first asked me to join her team, I was both excited and a little hesitant. I’d always heard that no one ever wants to mix family and business, as it can be difficult to keep things professional, but I am pleased to say that wasn’t the case at all. Through the years I’ve spent here at Beaumont and through my work with my family, both at the office and at home, I’ve seen just how impactful dentistry is for people and how important these relationships are. This Thanksgiving I’m very thankful to have such a wonderful family, for everything we’ve accomplished here, and for all the people at Beaumont who have helped mold it into the caring facility it is today. –Hannah Golibersuch

We are a tightknit family who sees one another quite a lot, both in and out of the office. Being around family as much as we are helps us be much more real with one another. We are comfortable having the hard conversations,

MEET SARA OUR BEAUMONT FAMILY ADMINISTRATOR The dentists and team members who make up each team at Beaumont Family Dentistry’s four locations are kind-hearted and dedicated individuals. They always ensure that every patient who comes through our doors is comfortable, relaxed, and cared for. No one expresses this more than our office administrator, Sara. Since she joined our team a little over a decade ago, Sara has shown time and time again the care and enthusiasm that Beaumont Family Dentistry thrives on. Although she first started with our office as a Treatment Coordinator, Sara showed that she was a fantastic individual and expressed leadership traits we value. She was soon elected as the business team lead. “I was very excited,” Sara says, remembering. “Both of my parents were entrepreneurs when I was growing up, and I helped run a business with my husband for the past 19 years. I’ve always loved this line of work.” Sara has been involved in the dentistry field for over 20 years and has enjoyed every moment. “I love having the chance to talk with the patients,” she says. “One of the best things I do is talk with them to see what their goals are for coming into the office that day, whether that’s just a regular cleaning or working toward a better smile. I love having those real heart-to-heart conversations.” As a caring leader, one of Sara’s top priorities is talking to patients about their treatment plans. “This is especially important when they might not like going to the dentist,” Sara explains. “I talk them through the treatment. Instead of looking at the whole picture, I’ll focus on the first step of the treatment and take baby steps through the rest. I tell them that we’ll reach the finish line together — they definitely don’t have to face this alone.”

WITH THESE GRATITUDE-THEMED GAMES ENGAGE YOUR KIDS ON THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is an excellent time to teach children about gratefulness. By planning some fun, gratitude-themed games, you can impart a valuable lesson and spend some quality family time together. Get your kids in the holiday spirit by adding a Thanksgiving twist to these classic games.

PICTIONARY

Want to bring out your kids’ creative sides? Pictionary is the perfect way to encourage artistic expression and grateful thinking. Try adding a rule where players have to draw something they’re grateful for. This will get your kids thinking beyond turkey and stuffing and give them an imaginative way to express their gratitude. Plus, who doesn’t love a good art contest?

GUESS WHO?

To play gratitude-themed Guess Who?, have each participant write down their name and something they’re thankful for on a slip of paper and put it in a bowl. Then, at the dinner table, have each person draw a random slip and read what it says without saying the name while everyone else tries to guess who wrote it. While Pictionary may get your kids talking about what they are thankful for, Guess Who? will tune them into what others around them are thankful for too. Like regular pick-up sticks, the goal is to remove a stick from a haphazard pile without disturbing the others. However, by using colored sticks that represent different kinds of thankfulness — such as places, people, or food — you can make players think outside the box. This will ensure you get a wide range of creative, thoughtful answers whenever the kids pick up a stick. These modified games are great for helping your kids realize how much they have to be thankful for. Use these to spend some fun, educational, quality time with your family this Thanksgiving. PICK-UP STICKS

Our aim is to have our patients leave with a smile, and Sara’s care mirrors the team’s efforts to ensure our patients are taken care of. “It’s part of what we do here at Beaumont Family Dentistry, and I’m so happy to be a part of this team that helps so many people. Having someone come in feeling self-conscious of their teeth and then leaving with this bright smile is an amazing progression to watch and be a part of.”

The Legend of Sergeant Reckless

THE GREATEST AMERICAN WAR HORSE

THE LEGEND OF SERGEANT RECKLESS

for Outpost Vegas. During the bloody five-day campaign, Reckless made 51 trips to resupply guns over the course of a single day. By the end of the battle, she had carried 386 rounds of ammunition by walking 35 miles through rice paddies and mountain trails. After dropping off the ammunition, Reckless would then bring wounded soldiers back to safety. Reckless was trained to lie down when under fire and avoid barbed wire, and her ability to do so without needing human command saved many lives during the battle. Reckless would close out her war career with two Purple Hearts and the rank of staff sergeant. She spent the rest of her years at Camp Pendleton in California. To learn more about this legendary mare, be sure to check out “Sgt. Reckless: America’s War Horse” by Robin Hutton.

to the success of her regiment during the Korean War. Meet Sergeant Reckless.

Bought for $250 in 1952 by a U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant at a Seoul racetrack, Sergeant Reckless was trained to carry ammunition for the 5th Marine Regiment. Her name was a play on the “recoilless” rifle ammunition she carried and a nod to the daredevil attitude of the soldiers who used them. Reckless was pivotal for her regiment in more ways than one. As Robin Hutton notes in her book “Sgt. Reckless: America’s War Horse,” “Because horses are ‘herd’ animals, the Marines became her herd. She bonded so deeply with them that Reckless would go anywhere and do anything to help her adopted family.”

Animals have acted as companions to humankind for thousands of years. They’re a near-constant source of companionship, comfort, and aid. Unfortunately, military animals don’t often get the recognition they deserve. One horse, in particular, was essential
