the Beauty BOOK

FEBRUARY 2020

Hair removal has served many purposes throughout history, such as providing cleanliness and defining status. Whether plucking, shaving, and even waxing with melted sugar, people have been trying to remove unwanted hair for centuries. Like any other beautification technique, hair removal has been updated as new technology and information is introduced to the industry. About 50 years ago, the first laser designed to destroy hair follicles was invented. Over the course of the following half-century, lasers were tested, altered, tested, and altered some more. Eventually, technology gave us modern-day laser hair removal in the form of electrolysis and intense pulsed light (IPL). These methods treat all skin and hair types, and thanks to updated knowledge about hair growth cycles, permanent hair removal is not only achievable but also virtually painless. At Beautique, we use this amazing IPL technology for hair removal. It allows us to customize treatments to each patient. For patients with darker hair, we target the hair follicle at a different setting than for those with blond or gray hair. The same customization is available for different skin types so we remove hair in the most efficient way. In just 12 months, our patients can be free of unwanted hair — and ready to put on their summer clothes without a second thought. Aimed at long-term hair reduction, laser hair removal targets the hair follicle at the most responsive stage to reduce overall growth. Razor, be gone! Perfect Timing When it comes to laser hair removal, there is an ideal time for treatment to maximize results. Because hair grows in different phases, we time treatments so they will be most effective to your hair removal Go Hair-Free for Summer High-Tech, Low-Maintenance Hair Removal Gives You a Jump-Start on the Season

plan. Only one phase of hair growth, the anagen phase, is responsive to laser treatment. Since we can’t know which phase hair is in at a given time, after the initial treatment, we treat patients at precise intervals over multiple sessions to get them permanent results. Thanks to our thorough approach, our patients can say goodbye to their razor in just 12 months! Customized to YOU Our system is also equipped for every hair and skin type. We customize your treatment to you! Unlike hair removal devices that can’t target lighter hair or don’t respond well to darker skin tones, our lasers can be adjusted to ensure we get just the right approach for you. What makes our process stand out? We use the Lumenis LightSheer DUET, a state-of-the art laser made to treat all skin types and even red, blond, and gray hair. Most hair removal equipment isn’t even capable of this! In addition, while most offices only treat one area at a time, our personalized approach ensures we can treat multiple body areas. Hair-free for summer? Yes, this dream can be a reality, and the most efficient, cost-effective way to do it is with laser hair removal. Ditch all your unwanted hair with the latest in hair removal technology. Call us now to find out how you can start the journey to the hair-free, smooth skin you dream of.

It’s Eye Time to Consider Eyecare Maintaining a Spec-tacular Beauty Routine

Eyecare might not be something people think about regularly, but it should be. The skin around the eyes is more delicate and thinner than any other part of the body, and eyes are constantly on the move, so they often show the first signs of aging. Thankfully, it’s never too late to start caring for your eyes. If you’re wondering how to combat dark circles, crow’s feet, and under-eye bags, read on for a few tips. Incorporate an eye cream into your routine. As you age, wrinkles form around your eyes, causing you to look that much older. By getting into the habit of keeping your under-eye area moisturized, you’ll minimize the aging process and keep your skin smooth. With a daily dab of eye cream — try Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream or Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream — you’ll feel ready to take on the day and look the part too. Be gentle with your under-eye area. As mentioned above, the skin around your eyes is delicate, so when you remove makeup or apply products to the area, it’s essential you be as gentle as possible. Adding too much pressure can cause dark circles, fine lines, and puffiness, which can worsen over time. Try using your pinky finger to touch this area since it uses the least amount of pressure. Pay attention to ingredients. Take the time to read through the ingredients of the products you choose. To prolong shelf life, many cosmetic manufacturers use preservatives. While most of these won’t irritate the eyes, some people find them uncomfortable. Look for the following red flags hidden in complicated ingredient lists: parabens, benzalkonium chloride, and formaldehyde. Maintain your vision health. Did you know that eyestrain and squinting contribute to wrinkled and tired eyes? Wearing glasses when necessary and ensuring your prescription is up to date will reduce your chances of premature aging. Additionally, regularly cleaning your lenses and changing your contacts according to the manufacturer’s recommendation will keep your eyes healthy and strong.

We get a lot of questions about Botox, and the treatment is prone to many misconceptions. Thankfully, our experienced and educated staff at Beautique know all about it and answered some of your most common questions. Here’s the scoop on what our knowledgeable team has to say. Q. What is Botox, and how does it work? A. Botox is an FDA-approved injectable that relaxes select muscles to smooth worry lines and crow’s feet, causing people to look younger. Botox treatments from experienced, licensed professionals (like those on our team at Beautique) can ease lines around the forehead and relax brows. When those wrinkles set in, they cause people to look unintentionally angry or severe. Botox returns youthfulness and joy to patients’ lives. Q. Where can it be applied? A. Botox can be applied in crow’s feet, the forehead, and the lines around the mouth, known as “11s.” Botox is for areas of muscle movement, which makes it different from dermal fillers. Q. Who gets Botox? A. Botox is truly for anyone — not only a specific gender! Male celebrities turn to it during awards season to look their best, and over the last several years, the number of men getting Botox has increased by 33%. How Does BotoxWork?

Your Botox FAQ , Answered!

Q. Will it look like I had work done? A. We customize the amount that is suitable for you, and if you desire, we can make it look natural. Everyone has different tastes about the look they want to have. Q. Does it hurt? A. It shouldn’t hurt. We make you as comfortable as possible by numbing the area before treatment. If you’re afraid of needles, it may be more challenging, but we will make the experience as comfortable as possible. Q. How long does Botox take, and how long do the effects last? A. It can be applied in just 30 minutes, so a lot of times people come in during their lunch hour. The effects last for about three months. After that, the effects will fade and look more natural. We recommend coming back for treatments as directed by your provider for the best results. The results speak for themselves! Call Beautique today to schedule your next Botox treatment.

‘Jane the Virgin’ Star Gina Rodriguez Speaks Up on Beauty Standards

endearing title character on “Jane the Virgin,” Gina Rodriguez is about as endearing and down-to-earth as the character she plays.

The Product She Never Leaves Home Without Rodriguez swears by another affordable staple, Rosebud Salve, to treat chapped lips and chapped hands. She even uses it to remedy dry knees. Take a cue from her: Carrying a moisturizing salve or lotion wherever you go will help you keep your skin hydrated even on the driest of days. Her Belief in Following What’s Right for You Inspired by her mom, who wears minimal makeup, Rodriguez doesn’t look for validation in a lipstick shade or jean size. Her mom taught her to find it within herself. “I want to own beauty. I don’t want to chase it,” Rodriguez told Elle magazine. “Healthy is to each his own. You have to know your body. You can’t compare yourself to somebody else. It’s what’s best for you.”

She’s also into low-maintenance beauty — she swears by products you can find at most drug stores — and defying traditional ideals of beauty. How She Feels About Hollywood’s Narrow Standards of Beauty Rodriguez has spoken passionately about bucking traditional beauty standards and how we have the power to do it. “The ‘norm’ is a trend,” she told Byrdie.com. “Societal rules can be changed, and they can be changed by us. We are the reason we believe a certain body type is beautiful and other body types aren’t, and we’re the ones who are capable of changing what beauty looks like.” Her Go-To for Smooth, Frizz-Free Hair You likely won’t see the star turning to exclusive designer brands to care for her hair. That’s because since high school, Rodriguez swears
